On minifigures you can change their arms and hands.
You can change minidolls' arms out too, technically, you just have to pry their arms off. Okay that just sounded weird I don't really see the point of changing their hands though even if you could.
You can change their hands to put on/take off gloves.
I've read both sides of the argument friendly debate and my opinion is that mini-figures are superior because they are what Lego is. The heart of Lego is customization, I know those mini-dolls are customizable to a certain extent, but unlike the mini-figures they are not entirely customizable. I've made some of my mini-figures look much more legit taking arms off of the torsos and switching them around.
But I do think there is some bias involved here because males have a natural antipathy to the mini-dolls while females have a natural sympathy towards them.
For me it isn't bias, I'd like minidolls better if they had independent legs and could rotate their hands.
That's why I said some bias, most guys have a bias towards them, but in my opinion the ones that don't dislike mini-dolls might have a few problems. :tounge:
It's because of the fun in the park set and minifigure pack duplicates.
Well, you must realize most of my LEGO is from pre-2010, and back then 95%+ of minifigures were male.
Same. Most of my newer sets are licensed, therefore they include quite a few females. My first female minifigure was from a late 1990's to 2000 space set. Not sure which, one of my brothers gave her to me. She was my first LEGO figure and the only female I had for some time. Females were so lacking back then, it took me years to figure out that "Timmy" was actually a Tammy. Was I the only one who renamed their minifigures and disregarded the official names and stories? Jayko from Knights Kingdom was King Arthur to me... The green guy was Lancelot while the peasant was Paris/Alexander.
Pretty sure the female life guard from Minifgures Series Two was my eighth female. Not sure how many I have now, but it'll be around 30. Think I have over 300 males and two babies... 'cause who didn't buy Fun In The Park a bunch of times.

I always just used the names given or remade them into my own characters. Like I would take Ogel's head and use it on different bodies for different bad guys and such. My first female was probably from a Star Wars set I got as a kid. Almost all my females are from licensed themes, although I think I have a few nonlicensed females.

I had a fear of forgetting which head belonged to which figure. Therefore, I never removed their heads. I do now for my stop-motion animations, but I'll take a picture of the before and afters.

If I ever want a minifigure again I will just look up what it looks like on the internet:P.

I couldn't do that, I didn't know the internet existed until 2006 or so. Too lazy to Google them all. I just sit them all next to each and take a picture. One for before and another for after. Easy

Really? I knew about the internet since we got it in like the early 2000s. I remember, it was SO SLOW:P!

Yep. My family bought our first computer in 2003 I believe. We... Us kids only used it for The Sims, Paint and Word. I had a fear of pressing the internet explorer button, a fear which was legitimised later in life. We had dial-up, I only heard it, never used it. We weren't really into computers, I think we bought it for school assignments and such. We had over 25 acres to explore at the time. Spent most of our time building BMX jumps, moving cricket and football pitches, digging holes to China and rallying a Daihatsu Charade.

I spent a lot of time outside as a kid. We made medieval weapons and roleplayed with them, was so fun:D! I miss being a kid:(.

We used to pretend our land was Jurassic Park. I too miss being a kid, though I think kids are too busy to just mess around nowadays. The worst part about being the youngest, you watch as your older brothers grow up and you still wanna play. You just grow up too.
Being honest though, I don't think I could deal with brother number one and two using the ankle-tap on me in rugby anymore, in addition to their general roughness/seriousness at sport. Don't miss that part...

I wasn't allowed to see JP until I was 13, so you're lucky you got to as a kid:(. I was middle, but my sis never really did anything outside. It was always me, my bro, his friend, and my friend. We would always get together and roleplay. I never played rugby, and during my only play EVER of tackle football I broke my arm:P!

My parents were pretty chill with movie ratings. Arnold Schwarzenegger movies did traumatise me for a little while, but we all turned out to be okay human beings in the end. There were just a few games and shows which were off limits, most movies were fine. It wasn't to do with violence though, Dad banned things which were disrespectful to females.
My parents basically spawned a rugby/football/cricket team. There are five of us. Brother number three only joined in half the time. He wasn't very sporty, so it was 2v2 most of the time. If not, it was the eldest two versus the rest of us. <- That's when we got hurt. Only one of us ever broke something and that was from being pushed of the slippery slide. We used to invite our friends over to camp on our land. We'd end up having full teams.
But back to the Friends versus Minifigure debate. More people grew up with minifigures and I know of girls who despise of Friends for that reason. According to them, it forces females to only play with the pink LEGO. That and the encouragement of gender stereotypes. i.e. Friends just hang out while the City police chase down robbers. There are heaps of online articles about this.

I don't get why they try to force pink and purple LEGO for girls and then give boys the rest of the colors:S. It just seems weird. And like you said, most girls our age grew up with minifigures, so they don't like that change to minidolls.

I don't get it either. Do people still believe that girls should use/wear pink while boys should use/wear blue?
Colours are colours. Most of the LEGO colours nowadays are terrible.
