I was rank 9, you were rank 3. Some of the work is already done. They'd still need to program the whole thing and lay it out for smaller touch screens. Probably not worth their time. Maybe I'll let them know when LEGO Life is thrown in the trash.
Yes. Everything is expensive in Australia, but we have higher wages and a high lifestyle. Someone needs to pay for the schools, hospitals and healthcare. We pay it in tax, most people don't mind, which personally is a good thing. Our minimum wage is much higher than the USA and we don't rely on tips. So it's not necessarily a bad thing. I just buy LEGO when it's on sale.
Sorry - just randomly slipping into the conversation...
I've been reading these posts and I agree with you guys, tech is changing everything. I think LEGO weighed their options (and their track record of non-brick/online investments) and decided they couldn't do that much to compete with the huge amount of social media platforms that kids already have now... that creating something simple would do = LEGO Life.
I would love an MLN app! Man, I only got to rank 5 there, boohoo I wish we'd been given a heads up before it closed, I would have recorded the little loop composition that I had on my page. I loved messing with that loop editor.
I'd like to think New Zealand is just as savvy as Oz with wages and lifestyles. But sadly we Kiwis don't have any official LEGO stores, LEGOlands, or LEGO Discovery Centres, so unfortunately NZ has some catching up to do. Like Hugh-Z describes Oz tho, our minimum wage is decent (I'm on the minimum wage myself, and I managed to save enough for the SHIELD Helicarrier fairly quickly) and yeah, we don't expect tips all over like the US.
P.S. - Zachcheung!! I was wondering what kind of username that was, until I saw your tagline... Do you remember me? Thanks for putting me in the LMB user montage on the Galleries, that was so cool!!
P.S. - that 'Back in my day' emote would also need a little wagging finger to shake at them young 'uns!
That's alright.
Good point, LC. I guess LEGO just wanted to make a safe social network just for kids, as opposed to others such as Facebook, YouTube, or Twitter, which definitely is not safe for kids at all.
Well, you did reach farther than me. I remember the loop editor, though I didn't use it much, kinda wish I did.
Hopefully LEGO or Merlin Entertainment will consider a LEGO Store, or an Amusement Park/Discovery Center somewhere there.
P.S. - I remember you, LC!! Nice to see you here too! You're welcome! Thanks! It was a big project, but it's something I'll always remember!

I don't mind if you just jump into conversations.
Maybe, but I don't see a point in a social media for kids. You could just use the galleries online, but I guess parents limit browser use for their children. Maybe applications are seen as okay as they are often not open ended. For instance, LEGO.com could send you anywhere. An app stops with the app. You can't search for other/inappropriate stuff on LEGO Life.
Rank 5 isn't too bad of an achievement. It was a hard rank. So many trades. If they did rebuild it, they should lower the requirements a little. Most people just got stuck on the hard ranks like 4, 5 and 7. Rank 7 required so many green and purple bricks and Rank 8 became almost impossible with so many inactive players. Not enough House of Gauntlets and too many House of Mantles. I would like to see it rebuilt, it seems too large though. Lots of stuff going on. You'd need to focus on the main quest before anything like the loops and gallery modules. I think you'd need to use Java and I don't know Java... Yet. Yes, that loop editor was the best. That would be an awesome program just on its own. Wonder if it inspired people to write music.
Australia and New Zealand are quite similar. We actually asked you if you'd like to become a state prior to our federation. You guys rejected us, so we stole your flag, added a few extra stars, coloured them white and claimed it as our own. We have one LEGO store, it's in my state but the prices are insane. I think it's $20 for three custom minifigures. You can buy four or more series figures for that and you'll likely get more variation. I don't think you're missing out on much. Still I'm going to take a visit next time I'm on the Gold Coast. Haven't been in maybe 9 years. <- Even though it's in my state, it's still too inconvenient. The Gold Coast is inconvenient.
P.S No, no. It should be "All ye young whippersnappers and your (insert something the next generation loves)."
I could have helped you rank up. I could build a page full of race tracks. I used to help all the rank 3's on the MLN Wiki. Personally, I don't think we'll be waiting very long to see LEGO Life fail. It only has a 3.9 on the Google Play. That's quite terrible. The whole 'newness' will wear off fast IMO. There is only so much you can do on it. Kids will get bored and either head to other apps or LEGO.com. At least that's what I think... And hope.
Nope. Our economy is shocking. Our wages are too high to compete with the rest of the world. People don't like to admit that as it shows the faults in capitalism and globalisation. It's not a popular criticism in liberal nations, so most people and the media would rather blame unemployment on the poor sods who deal with it. So yeah, our economy is rubbish, as is that of most of the 'developed' world IMO.
It's been a long time since I was on MLN, even before it closed down, and the only users on my friends list were a few friends I knew in real life. I guess we'll have to look in the future to see the progression of LEGO Life.
Ah, I see. Yeah, I think at this point in time, the world economy is kinda messed up, especially with recent events.
I guess so. Still, maybe they'll add something cool to LEGO Life.

The GFC helped ruin everything.
They're always adding challenges in LEGO Life, so at least it isn't stagnant. I do hope they add more avatar options though, and the ability to change or choose the 3 word nickname.

Who's the GFC?
The global financial crisis.
My dad lost his job during the GFC, but he has a much better one now

Who's the GFC?
I guess that's true. It's rather unusual for LEGO to maintain their creations. Can you win the LEGO Life challenges? If so, what do you get?
The GFC is an acronym for Global Financial Crisis. I believe it started when a US bank went broke. Because of that currency was losing its value and people were hoarding their money in an attempt to see it out. Additionally, banks limited their lending and with no one buying houses, people lost their jobs. Less money spent equaled a stagnant or declining economy. So governments lent money to "inject" into their economies. Most countries are still feeling it. You may have heard of the financial collapse of Cyprus and Greece in the previous years. It's far more complicated than that though. Australia's currency worth depreciated by quite a bit. Yet another reason why things like LEGO are so expensive to buy here.

There's no prizes. It's more like a prompt for building something and sharing it.
Ah, I remember that time. Luckily my family and I weren't too affected by it, but it was a worrying time. Right, I do remember Greece and Cyprus' GDP was declining badly. I don't know how LEGO responded to the crisis, and I'm sure I could find it in the annual records, but I'm sure everyone had to respond some way to reach stability whether they like it or not.

Hmm, interesting. Maybe they do, and it would be really quick to moderate too.
Lol. It makes me wonder what the kids today, when they get older, what their "Back in my day" phrase would be, and how advanced the next generation would be.
Something along the lines of "back in my day we communicated in emoji code, we used it in the liberation of communism". I doubt that, but it's fun to joke. Why isn't there an emoji for back in my day? Seems technology is slowly going backwards. Phones are getting bigger and physically weaker, you could say the same about humans too.
Do you think the Mods actually like LEGO Life? I feel like they're against it. They drew the short straw and lost their community, one which was built up over 20 years.
I would like to drop in.
Unless kids are getting FAR too absorbed in tech, their "Back in my day" saying would more likely be this:
"Back in my day, our grandparents would say "Back in my day" repeatedly to no end."
Good point, LC. I guess LEGO just wanted to make a safe social network just for kids, as opposed to others such as Facebook, YouTube, or Twitter, which definitely is not safe for kids at all.

P.S. - Lol, I can already imagine it.
I agree, YouTube comments are lethal It's sad that some people think they can get away with saying awful things to other people just because they're online and will never meet. I wish Facebook had better moderation too!
The loops editor was one of my favourite things on MLN My least favourite part was the clicks limit
Ugh I really hope so!! I've dreamt about the Pick-a-brick wall so many times...
P.S. - Thank-you! Yeah I haven't seen many of my friends around LMB Eternal so it's great to 'see' you. I can imagine that creation took a massive amount of time and effort!

That's true. I mean, LEGO.com usually has a little warning window pop up if you navigate to another site through its pages, but like you said it's obviously easier to browse from there than from an app... given there aren't any in-app purchase options. But I don't think LEGO Life would, would they? I haven't bothered checking
That's kind of you to say, rank 5 was pretty much my goal anyway. And then I found the LU Creation Lab and mostly forgot about MLN... Sounds like you knew your way around the higher levels though! I wish I knew Java. I can barely write boilerplate for HTML
Well, I can tell you - the loop editor inspired me! I use Garageband now, with more patches and instrument samples from the Mainstage app. Composing is one of my favourite hobbies
Yes!! History lesson, and what you say is true... just don't try to claim the pav, okay?
Oh. So you have a LEGO store, and it's pricey and inconvenient If it's expensive there, what's its gonna be like here!? Gah I'll have to stick to LEGO shop@home...
P.S. - "Ooh... ye young whippersnappers and your.... your... your blasted holographic pets and computer-chip thumbs!!"

Yuss I just realised I can use my signature bold orange font
I also forgot in my last post to mention the Gold Coast! I'm guessing it's just too crazily crowded and expensive and hot all the time?

I'm just speculating. I haven't used LEGO Life. My phone is 7 years old (Galaxy One) so it's incompatible with nearly all apps. So even if I wanted to, I couldn't download it. Is LL even available in Australia and New Zealand yet?
I made so many friends through the MLN wiki. That's probably the main reason I miss it. I miss the community. The game was slow, but the trades allowed for friendship. I'm not very good at programming, but I know people who are. Sometimes I'll just sit down and learn.
That's so cool that you're creating music. Have you heard of Flume? I'm pretty sure he's a Kiwi (scratch that, he's Aussie... Was sure he was Kiwi). He started making music on one of those free Kellogg Nutri-Grain music mixers that used to come with the box. Haha, I used to spend so much time on that thing. You have your pav and eat it too. That stuff taste like chalk. You can have that and Russell Crowe, we'll just keep Keith Urban.
Yes. It's rather annoying too. Hey, if you ever visit Gold Coast (lots of Kiwis do) you can take a look. Your dollar is pretty similar to ours. The store is right outside the big 4? I think it's 4 theme parks.
I guess I was rank 3 then. Well, it looks like you're going to have to wait a long, long time then. There are already at least a million users on LEGO Life, and I don't think LEGO will be considering its closure for a long time.
Interesting. I guess you have a pretty nice economy then. Same here for me with buying LEGO when its on sale.

Just look at it this way: with capitalism (or socialism) some of the people succeed in life. With communism, none of the people succeed in life. There are variations on all these things, but the end results are usually the same.
