I'm going to make some guesses on LEGO Life and the LMBs disappearance.
If LEGO wanted to have their own children's social network, they would want it to be about LEGO. I can't speak for everyone who was on the old LEGO Message Boards, but I felt like overtime, it was becoming more about ourselves and less about LEGO. Sometimes I wondered why we even had a community chat forum, what I believe to be the most active forum, if the majority of the posts weren't related to LEGO. I wondered why the Mods would want to be Mods if most of the posts they moderated were about our personal lives, and maybe that's why some of them left, out of frustration that their job just seemed.... senseless.
If there's any reason why some users would prefer the LMBE instead of the old LMBs, it seems to be because it's more about us, and for the most part, there's definitely nothing wrong with that, but I wonder if that brought the downfall of the LMBs. I don't know if some of you remember the CC topic I wrote about a year ago when I addressed this issue. This was during a time when the Mods stated that their jobs had changed and when we lost the GBA's, permanent CH team, interviews, etc, but I felt that many users even before those changes just came for those exclusive perks, or ranks, or likes, or to be as popular as skul or diglett. Admittedly, I was quite lucky to have been interviewed, on the Community Helper team, and win some Golden brick awards, but I always wanted to have the right heart when those things happen, and sometimes I still wonder if I had fully embraced them.
If these were the actual reasons, then I would guess the Mods wouldn't tell us this because it would really hurt our feelings, and since I'm the one telling you this, I'm sorry that I have hurt yours. As I stated before, these are just guesses and nothing is confirmed, but I felt like this was the issue.
If LEGO Life is connected to the LMBs disappearance, well, it is LEGO's own children's social network, and there's probably more LEGO there than the LMBs did.
That's sad. They ruined LEGO.com All the good stuff is gone or obsolete. I see no reason in visiting the site anymore. LEGO Life spoiled everything. No wonder hardly any people were joining the boards, they rigged the system. I never had club, I was always under the impression that Australians had to pay for it. I remember cheating on mln and getting the club module even though I never had club.
I had to cheat for the module on MLN because the magazine the code/link was printed in was long gone.
Those were good times. Do you think anyone will look back on LEGO Life with such fond memories?
Especially since it's totally replacing the physical New Zealand LEGO Club magazine lol!
I think that's a global thing. Hey, did you happen to redirected to your local website before the LMBs closed? I'd noticed that I had to use the US version of the site to find them. The Australian version kept directing me to club. <- This explains the lack of users on the boards towards the end.
Oh dear, really? I thought us Kiwis had just gone cheap No about the LMBs... I think I was always on the US site when I accessed the boards, although of course, I use the NZ shop.lego.com site.
I think a lot of us were also confused that the boards didn't end when the mods initially said they would! It was a long and painful demise.

Same. I used to Google search for them. They weren't actually on the Australian version. Either it had been removed well prior to the closure of the LMBs or they were never on the local site to begin with. The Australian site isn't that old. I don't remember seeing it until this year.
Well, this is the Lego Life Discussion. You can put reviews, reports, and news about LL here. I don't necessarily expect everything to be positive here, so feel free to criticize LL to whatever extreme you like. Have fun.
I have it. It's basically a mobile version of the LEGO.com Galleries, so it's rather pointless. I'd probably be on board if it had a computer site as well.
Except there's little talking, no search, and most of it is spam and re-uploads of things other people built. Oh yeah, and the Galleries have an epic community.

I politely disagree. LEGO was not the only one to remove their message boards. I think this is more to do with strict child protection laws than general off-topicness. Our community had its fair share of... Lets just say not very nice people. The LMB Wiki had to report one user (that I know of) to LEGO in order to have them permabanned.
Small children are getting their hands on the internet at a really young age and parents want them protected. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ I think this is the key. I don't see why Mods would willing leave their job due to something as minor as off-topic posts. It seems clear that KK doesn't mind hearing our life stories, as I doubt anyone would willing subject themselves to something they did not enjoy, especially if they were not being paid to do so. She even mentioned that some of the other Mods may pop in to have a look.
Lots of people still posted about LEGO. LEGO just changed, it became a bit boring IMO. I understand that I'm getting older, but my interest in the new themes and sets is limited. Maybe other people felt the same way. Maybe LEGO didn't give us enough to post about. Maybe the LMBs were taking up too many resources.
The norms are changing. Ipads have become first birthday gifts. Gone are the days when parents would hawk over their children's computer games IMO.
{JAMMERS! -SPOILER!} Basically there is this futuristic utopia where robots communicate in emoji. They want to force people to have happy thoughts and end up attempting to destroy all the humans. It sounds familiar.
Basically, Guy 1 was being annoying and Guy 2 was getting annoyed, but then Guy 1 said he was joking, so Guy 2 calmed down. That was totally clear, right?

Ahh I see. I did consider the idea that perhaps the boards were closed due to child safety laws, and I do remember that user who was banned, but I wasn't sure if that was the case.
I suppose the Mods didn't mind as much, but I wonder if it's a waste of LEGO's resources to monitor our off topic conversations.
I think I fall into that category of people too. I'm still interested in new LEGO themes, but not as involved as I used to be years ago. I think everything is changing, us, LEGO, and the rest of the world and how it operates, and maybe the LMBs weren't ready to handle those changes.
Yeah, it honestly kinda disappoints me how smartphones and technology is almost replacing physical toys, and that's why LEGO has to work so hard in the new digital era. Really young kids are getting into social media, and that's probably why LEGO Life is in place, and since it was worked with UNICEF, it has to have all the limitations of the emote comments, because young kids definitely aren't ready to handle negative feedback, and LEGO doesn't want to be the cause of that no matter how much moderation is in place.
