Island of Samugo The First Kelitzu Master by Drake Cahill
Drifting along the Sea of Infinity is an island known as Aku. The first people were born on Aku, and there they lived for a very, very long time. Since the dawn of the island, there had been seven rulers, known as the Council. They ruled with justice and enforced peace, although the mention of war had rarely come up. Together, the Council used their power to turn Aku into a paradise, one where the people could connect with each other and their world. Over time, the connection between mankind and the world became so strong, nature became part of their souls. A small yet powerful spark gave individuals the ability to harness the power of an element. Instead of forbidding such strengths, the Council encouraged them. Using their abilities, the people build incredible cities and homes, and came even closer with nature. But there was one who connected with a different part of nature. Journeying into the Kurai Catacombs, he discovered an element that had been kept secret for a very long time. He found Evil, a force unknown to the peaceful world above. The man evolved into a dark creature called an Oni. Returning to the surface, he brought about a great tragedy.

Using his dark powers to corrupt the souls of good people, he donned the title Lord Oni and waged war upon the unsuspecting paradise. All seemed lost, and darkness spread across the land. The Council tried their best, both in and out of the battlefield, to restore order to their world. The war lasted for nine years, before what would become known as the Day of Conquering. Lord Oni smashed all seven members of the Council, and took the throne of the kingdom.
Nineteen hundred and ninety-nine years later, the island of Aku was covered in Oni City, where technology controls the very lives of the people. The war long forgotten, propaganda supported the belief that Lord Oni was the rightful ruler, and that any opposition was ultimately futile. As for the elementals, there were very few. The separation of the people from the world was so nearly complete, that only few children were born with a significant enough spark. Those who exhibited strong connections suddenly and mysteriously disappeared.
This is the world of Oni City. The people are powerless to fight, and Lord Oni rules with an iron fist.
Samus Go was an ordinary dude. You couldn't pick him out of a crowd any easier than you could find Waldo. So while he was lying face-down on a shipping dock with a sword poised to end his life, he wondered, "why me?" The answer is because he fell in love.
It was a dim and cloudy day, as usual in Oni City. Samus' apartment was oh so quiet, and Samus himself was peacefully resting in his twin-size bed. WHAM "Wake up, Samus!!" "GAH!" Samus jolted awake in his bed. He looked around and saw his brother standing in the doorway. "What?! What's going on?" Samus' brother, Ninavo, had black hair and green eyes. He wore a stern expression, as usual. "Once again you are late. We were supposed to leave ten minutes ago." Samus looked at his alarm clock. "Oh, crud..." He threw his legs over the bed and began pulling on his pants. "I'll be right down, just go on, I'll catch up..." "You'd better, or they'll cut our pay again." Ninavo grumbled as he closed the door. Samus was the same height as his brother, and the same age. Twins, although not identical. Samus had blond hair and blue eyes, and a personality almost in direct contrast to his brother's. Samus threw on some clothes and washed his face. He burst out of his room, into the hallway, and over to the spiral staircase. He leaped over the banister, falling a good fifteen stories. Ninavo exited the elevator as Samus activated his hover shoes, bringing him to a safe landing. "Cutting it close, as usual?" Ninavo said wryly. "Just keeping things interesting." Samus shrugged as he deactivated the shoes.
The brothers caught a cab (hover car, of course) and rode through the city into the downtown area. Hover cars and holograms, glass and chrome buildings, with black-armored Oshoku, peace keepers, patrolled the streets. "I've already booked a band, the local circus, and several marching bands for the parade." Ninavo crossed off a few items on his holopad. "What have you accomplished?" "I got the fire dancers, the local sports teams, and a heckuva ton of fireworks." Samus said as he buttoned his shirt. "Also, I got a few interviews with some additional parties this afternoon."
The cab pulled up to a large warehouse, and the brothers for out. "Right, I'll go tend to the interviews, you make sure everything we have so far is in order for tomorrow night." Ninavo took off. Samus looked around, and saw massive hover-floats being decorated by committees and volunteers. "Good job, everyone! Happy Day of Salvation!" Samus said with a grin. The employees cheered. Samus pulled aside an intern. "Hey, you got the list of booked parade participants?" "Yessir, I've got them on your desk." The intern said. "Coffee?" "You know me so well. I'll be making phone calls all day, so let me know if anyone needs me." "Yessir." Samus entered his office. Reasonably cluttered, with an older computer on his desk. He glanced at a document, picked up the phone, and dialed a number. "Hello, is this the Oni City High School? Can you connect me to the band director?" Samus looked around his office absently. He picked up a desk toy, a puzzle cube, and twisted is this way and that. The voice on the other end surprised him, and he tossed the cube into the air. "Yes, yes, Ms. Jones? Yeah, I'm just double-checking..." Samus had turned to pick up the toy, but it was gone. Not again, Samus thought.
"Everything's in order, and I've got all the new groups lined up in the schedule." Samus told Ninavo on their way home. "It'll be a Day of Salvation to remember." "At least we can keep our jobs on the committee for a little longer." Ninavo muttered. "Ah, you worry too much." Samus said. "Just chill a little, huh? Hey, driver, let me out here." "What are you doing? the apartment isn't for another five blocks." Ninavo said. Samus opened the cab door. "I'm gonna pick up a frozen pizza at the convenience store, then I'll walk home." Samus closed the door and waved goodbye as the cab drove away. Samus was not going home. He also wasn't picking up a pizza. The explanation for this is quite simple. He had a crush on a girl. Said girl worked at the convenience store he was now entering. The girl behind the counter looked up. She had purple hair and brown eyes, a sharp wit and an attitude that Samus simply found alluring. "Well, well, well, if it isn't Samus Go." The girl smirked.
Her name was Veronica Io, and they'd known each other for five years, and Samus still has not asked her out. He was what we'd call a procrastinator. And a pansy. "Yeah, it's me again, your favorite customer." Samus said. "Got anything new?" "Yeah, metal detectors." Veronica rolled her eyes. "Lord Oni passed a new law, and now stores everywhere are getting them." "That's crazy, when was the last time somebody tried to rob someplace?" "Remember the incident back in '92?" "Oh, yeah..." Samus reminded himself of the last time someone opposed Oni's law. The punishment was brutal, and publicized for the entire week it lasted. No one had stepped out of line sense. Or, so everyone thought. "Oshoku have been doing their jobs, I guess." "Mm hm. So anyway, if you have anything metal, just put it on the tray." Samus pulled out some change and an ID card. He stepped through the detector. The doorway-shaped device crackled and let out a puff of smoke. But it did not go off. Samus looked up at the smoke, which triggered the fire alarm system. Veronica ducked under the table as blue foam squirted out of the walls and coated the metal detector and Samus. Samus spat foam off of his mouth. "What was that?" Veronica came up from behind the counter with a shocked expression. "I... don't know." She broke a nervous grin. "But hey... now I have to close the store while the foam evaporates." "And how long does that take?" Samus asked. Veronica laughed. "About an hour." "Great." Samus scraped off some foam. "Well, I'd better go take a bath then." "You do that." Veronica smiled and went into the back room. Samus sighed. Next time. He thought. You'll ask her next time. Yeah, right. Samus stood there for a minute, then left the store.
"Sir, something happened with one of our scanners." "This cannot be correct." "It is, sir. The entire system was overloaded." "Do we have any agents in that area?" "Agent Sutorai is already on route to eliminate a target. Shall I redirect him afterwords?" "Yes. But have him keep his distance. Await the command to eliminate. Did you scan his ID?" "Yes sir, he is known as... Samus. Samus Go."

Somehow I get the feeling he hasn't had much luck with said girl.

Tragically my boy does not have the gift I'm kinda going for a Emmet-Wyldstyle dynamic, cuz thats just adorable
Samus scraped foam off onto the sidewalk as he trudged through the city. He took a shortcut through a dark alley, the kind that would make parents and studio executives nervous. "Darned foam got in my pants..." Samus muttered. aah! CRSH Samus looked around. What was that? SMSH BR-BR-BRRRrrrr... Something was nearby. Around the corner, in another alley. Samus looked around at the darkening walls, the sun was about to set. "Help!" A voice shouted from a distance. "Aah!!" Hold up. Samus recognized that voice. It belonged to his friend, Saisho, a young student who studied mythology. "Saisho?" Samus called out. "Don't worry kid, I'm coming!" Samus dashed through the alleyways as Saisho's panicked cries echoed through the labyrinth. "Help! Please, no!! "What are you!?" Samus was worried, needless to say. "AAAA--" Samus turned a corner, a surge of panic rushed through him as Saisho's screams were cut off. "NO!!" He wasn't sure of what he was witnessing. All he saw was a shadow, holding a young, unconscious form in a grimly suggestive fashion. "WHAT DID YOU DO TO HIM!?" Samus shouted. The shadow tuned to face him. Nine feet tall, lots of spikes. Sturdy build, with piercing red eyes. The shadow dropped Saisho. It uttered something in ancient Akuian, it's voice like a lion gurgling curdled cheese. Samus looked back an forth between the form on the ground and the shadow above it. The anger melted from his face, replaced by fear. "No..." The shadow lunged forward, with foot-long claws so sharp they left slice marks in the very air. "AGH!" Samus rolled out of the way, stumbled to his feet, and began running. Faster and faster, adrenaline and fear urging him toward survival. His odds were slim, as the shadow seemed to be gliding through the ever-darkening alleys. Eyes widening, taking in every glance of sunlight, searching for some way to escape. Samus burst out of the alleyways and into the street, nearly getting hit by a hoverbus. Directly across the street was an old antique store, the closest thing to safety Samus could contemplate at the moment. Smashing through the door, shrouded by the darkness withing, smashing into a shelf, pain, the world going black...
The Oshoku are mysterious beings, their origin unknown. They obey only Lord Oni and enforce his laws without question. They don sleek black armor that is almost organic. It covers their entire faces, save for a vertical slit down the middle and two eye holes, revealing large, black eyes. "Commander Sugu, Agent Sutorai has... failed to capture the target." A lowly grunt reported. Sugu, whose build was three times as muscular and two heads taller than the other Oshogu, huffed a deep breath. "I will speak to him." "Speak away, brother." A silky British accent came from behind Sugu. "I'm all ears." Sugu turned, eyes filled with fury. "You let him escape." Sutorai was not like the others. He was in a human form, with white skin and dark hair. "Only temporarily. I will take care of him when the sun sets again. He cannot hide on this island." "And how can you be sure he isn't aware of his true potential?" Sugu asked. Sutorai grinned. "I smelled his wound, brother. He is still mortal and, better yet, he does not have the necessary gene to ever become a threat to us. "I leave in three hours. The wretched sun will be gone. And Samus Go will meet his doom."
Samus woke up in a cold sweat. Pain racked his entire body, his shirt damp with sweat. As he focused in the dark, he recognized a figure leaning above him. "GAH!" Samus tried moving away. "OH, OW...!" He winced, clutching his side. "... What the frazz?" Samus recognized that voice. "V-veronica?" "Samus, you were dying, but..." Veronica was in a state of bewilderment. "That dagger made a fatal wound..." "Get... it... out..." Samus wheezed. "That's the thing, it just... vanished..."
Suddenly, all the pain was gone. Samus' entire body seemingly went through an upgrade, his arms and legs filled with adrenaline, his eyes seeing in the dark, his mind racing, piecing together reality around him.
The antique store was a dump. He ran into the dark, crashed into a cabinet, and a dagger fell into him from a display above. But the dagger was gone, as was the wound.
"What... the heck... was that...?" Samus looked around, and stood up. "I'm... taller...?" "Uh, no..." An even more bewildered Veronica pointed at his feet. "You're frazzing floating." "Oh. So I am." Samus kicked his feet. "Veronica. I think I'm going to scream now."
"Where are we going again?" Samus asked. "I can't tell you, too many ears, now SHUT UP!!" Veronica turned a street corner. "Fine, but I just..." Samus stopped. "What is this place?" "It's a park, doorknob." Veronica was looking around in bushes. "Found it. C'mon." Veronica disappeared into the bush. "The heck?" Samus looked around, then cautiously approached the bush. "Veroni--" A had reached out and pulled him in. "AAAA--" Falling, sliding, landing. "OOF!" "Get up." Veronica was already upright, reading a dusty old book. "What... is this place?" Samus asked. "It's called the Toshareta, an ancient library." "Wh--wha...?" Veronica looked Samus dead in the eyes. "Samus, do you know what an elemental is?"
"No, no, no, no, no." Samus said. "My parents were not demigods, or whatever. They were nobodies. Like me." "Maybe so. But the science is simple." Veronica held up a book. "I've been coming here since I found this place, when I was fifteen. The bush is in a blind spot in the Oshoku security feeds. These books, though ancient, hold the keys to human potential. "A long time ago, people were born with sparks inside them. Elemental sparks. Since these people were in tune with nature, they could use their spark to control an element. "But after Lord Oni took over, that connection was severed, and now the elemental sparks in everyone lies dormant. "Your parents were the results of years of sparks being handed down, without even knowing it. You wanna know how I know?" "Not really."
"I'll tell you anyway." Veronica hesitated. "You said... that shadow thing... caught Saisho, and..." Samus looked away. "Well, Saisho was one of... well..." Veronica stood up. She pulled out a large bulletin board from behind a bookshelf. "Dozens." Samus stared at the board. Hundreds of pictures, notes, screenshots, red string, sketches, and other odds and ends were tacked up like a web of conspiracy. "Saisho was the most recent to come to me." Veronica said. "Usually, I'd go find people, but some people... like Saisho... were smart enough to know I was hiding something... here... "He said he had powers. His spark had become a flame. Samus, he could set things on fire with a single thought. Do you realize how incredible that is!?" Samus stared at one of the pictures. "Yukue?" He asked. Veronica looked at a picture of a twelve-year-old girl. Her face became grim. "They all went missing, Samus. I never knew why. Until I heard what you just told me." Samus thought for a moment, then it dawned on him. "No..." "Yes, Samus. Those people with flames? They've been hunted."
"I met a man named Muchino, who was like me. He had information. He began researching ancestry, and he told me about two people, man and wife, who, theoretically, shared each and every spark that has ever existed. Their last names were Go." "Hold up." Samus shook his head. "Why didn't you tell me before? I thought we were friends." "We are. But there was no concrete evidence, plus they had no powers. Their sparks were dormant. Useless." Veronica shrugged. "No offense." "None taken, I hardly knew them." "Anyway, long story short, your sudden supercharge in the antique shop proved all the theories. But your sparks have been dormant up until now, which is the curious part." "Sum it up for me, please." "Those with natural flames are being hunted down, and something activated all of your powers, we need to figure out what that something was." "Got it." Samus said. "Otherwise the shadow thing gets me." "Otherwise, the shadow thing gets the rest of them." Veronica said. "Right."
