I was no newb to the Gale, but everybody thought I was. My username did little to help. How did I know that I was going to become hopelessly addicted to this game? I merely accepted the recommended username, Player09526, and moved on. Now I was scared to lose my progress. Not that I had gotten far.
I didn’t understand it really. I grinded the bricks out of that game, and I had hours upon hours of practice built up by now. I had to be a pro. But still my stats remained practically stationary.
I was currently renting an in-game apartment which I was styling to be the most trashy, smelly, stereotypically messy room ever. I had spent hours yesterday dragging up an old fridge, and I was ready to install it. First, though, to get rid of my perfect white one that churned out ice cubes like a machine. Oh, wait, it was a machine. Anyways, we couldn’t have a fully-stocked ice bin in a truly terrible room.
I tried shoving it out the window, but unfortunately it wouldn’t fit. So I trundled it outside and summoned an elevator. I happened to live on the fifty-sixth floor. If the elevator every broke, I feel like I’d turn old and die before I’d manage to get up all the steps. Still, I was looking forward to the day. No truly awful apartment building has a functional elevator.
The elevator arrived, and I tipped the fridge into it. I pressed the ground floor button, then hopped back off and watched my fridge disappear. I clapped my hands together, and practically skipped back to my room. This was going to be amazing.

I had to splice the cord up since it was missing a couple prongs. I got a different end by chopping it off my vacuum cleaner. Who needs one of those anyways?
With a due sense of reverence, I plugged the old thing in, and shoved it up against the wall. It leaned crazily. It was stained an old yellow color, and there were some refrigerator magnets melted on it. One door was hanging on a bit crookedly.
I grinned. It was perfect.
Just as I turned away, though, I heard a tell-tale chunk. I paused, listening. There came a second. And a third. I dashed back over, and ripped the freezer door open.
The ice-maker was already almost done with the first batch of cubes, and already prepping the next.
I think if everything in life went just right, for just once, the world would probably implode or something. There’s no other explanation for why it never does.
"Bluebell," I muttered to blu-bell. "I know you want to be yourself and that's nice and all, but you really don't want people knowing what you look like in real life. It's not the most secure, know what I mean?"
Jay looked concerned, then nodded. He brought up his interface, and changed his hair to a soft, slightly longer blue-silver 'do, before changing his scar to a blue mark, though he kept the freckles. "Is this okay?"
"Yeah, that looks cool."
"Hopefully my girlfriend will be able to recognize me," the older teen muttered to himself nervously; wait, he he had a girlfriend?
As if on cue, a female player, a water nymph with a light-blue ponytail and a grey kimono, walked towards him. "Hey, bluebell."
"Hey, water-lily," BB replied with a chuckle. "Just got on?"
"Yup," the girl replied. "You?"
"Nah, I've been on for about half an hour," he replied. "Not doing much though."
"So....who's the lucky lady?" I asked, raising my eyebrows with a chuckle. I read her player tag. "Waterl1ly, huh?"
"Yeah," waterl1ly replied.
"Looks like you've got a matching theme going on with the naming," I added. "Both flowers, huh?"
"Yeah," BB said with a shrug. "I figured it'd be nice."
"Who's nice?" A raspy voice came up from behind us and even I jumped. His nickname was "DangerBuff," as in Rocky DangerBuff, the one who put on a show at Laughy's earlier this year. I chuckled.
"Hey, what's so funny?" The guy, whose avatar was a huge, incredibly muscular young man with short black hair and a bit of stubble, crossed his arms.
"Nothing, just...your name...I saw you on TV and...." I giggled more.
"What? That...that was..." His embarrassment faded into laughter. "Yeah, that was pretty funny..."
"Co- er...DangerBuff?" I heard BB mutter, giggling a bit at his name. "Your avatar is making me a bit uncomfortable, could you..."
"Oh yeah," DangerBuff replied, before making his body even bigger.
"Oh, come on, really?" BB replied irritably, though he was laughing a bit. His laugh was pleasant; genuine and full of energy.
DB chuckled and turned his avatar to more normal proportions, if not still strong and well-built. "Happy now?"
I'm just going to update one of them I made for the other co write that never happened. And I just watched the first six episodes of Sword Art Online this morning, so I have a much better idea of how this works now.
Name: Chromis Alstroemeria Age: 18 Appearance: He has medium short red hair which is usually mostly covered by a baseball cap he hardly ever takes off. He has light colored skin with some freckles and bright green eyes. Usually wears basic normal clothes. Personality: Pretty quiet and keeps to himself most of the time. ( unless he's with close friends or family ) In-game appearance: Navy blue ninja uniform. Rarely takes off hood but when he does you can see he looks almost exactly like his normal self. Username: ChromeFin In-game race (if different): Human Quirks: He likes playing video games very much. He likes ninja. His favourite animals are fish and he loves learning about them. He also enjoys baseball.
( So how much of this is based on Sword Art Online and how much of this is based on Ready Player One? )
There will be some SAO references but it'll mostly be off RP1. Mostly because though there is a suit that lets you feel pain, you don't die in that game...
Aw so no head gear that destroys your brain and smashes you if you smash in the game? Yeah I'm totally fine with our characters not smashing. ( I haven't seen Ready Player One yet so I'll have to improvise with some things. )

Chromis swung his sword, making sure he had control over his weapon. It was much like a sword most ninja would use, dark gray in color with some blue on the handle. It wasn't easy to get a hold of, but it was definitely worth it. He hadn't had many chances to use it though since he'd been busy doing other things in the gale. Once he tired of practicing with his sword he put it in his inventory for safe keeping and then headed over to a river he'd seen the other day. He could see other players off in distance, he would occasionally talk with other players, he usually didn't though. He made it to the river and sat down beside it, he knew none of this was real, but it felt real enough that it was peaceful to just relax and think sometimes. He suddenly noticed movement in the water, he looked closer, his hooded face just above the water. There was fish! A kind he had not yet seen in NPC form yet. He quickly bought up his inventory menu and took out a tablet. Chromis snapped a few quick pictures of the fish, he then typed in a few notes. He liked keeping track of all the new animal-like NPCs whenever he found them, he wondered if people who discovered real creatures felt simalur to how he felt whenever he'd find a new NPC. He'd found so many he had been sure he found them all, but the game creators must have added some since he started playing. After he finished putting notes down he put the tablet back in his inventory. He looked at the time, he needed to log out in ten minutes. He figured he'd just use that time to explore. Chromis glanced at the players in the distance. Maybe he could check out a highly populated area? He usually avoided such areas because of his shyness, but if he was really honest with himself he was lonely. He decided to give it a go.
