I glance at little warily at the Octoling, but nod at Jun and say, "Gotcha. Thanks."
"So...are you wanting to participate or what?" I reply. "You will be assigned a color based on your team. You'll want to paint the most turf in your team's color before time runs out. It's usually two teams of four, but this seems to be an exception. Also, teams are usually mixed, so whether you choose to be an Inkling or Octoling doesn't matter."
Olivia seems to be studying her Dualies and looking a bit shy; in fact, many of the female Octolings seem a bit withdrawn. The boys look a bit more bashful than straight-up shy. The Inklings, in comparison, seem much more outgoing and excited, and chat with each other and strike poses, laughing and smiling at one another.
Kai crossed his arms. "He's not here yet."
Knowing he was talking about Kane, I replied, "Next time, buddy. So what weapon did you pick?"
"This," Kai replied, holding up a Range Blaster. "Gotta love the flames on the barrel, plus it's powerful."
"Niiice," I chuckled, then looked up to the audience. There was Tracer dashing into her seat as if late, and Ronin with his arms crossed. Hiro Hamada leaned in, expecting something cool. Emmet and Lucy chatted cheerfully, while Batman crossed his arms, waiting to boo the team he didn't feel like rooting for. Spiderman had just gotten into his seat next to Iron Man, who was busy glaring at Superman, who chatted up Luke Skywalker like an old friend. Link folded his hands in his lap and leaned in, while Zelda did up her hair with Peach talking to her. "Woah. They got everyone."
Turning back to Lord Sandwich, Jun asked, "The game's about to start. We're short one player. You in?"
I shrug. I have few qualms about trying something new--especially something as big as this. "I'm in."

"Okay! So first off, check out your avatar options, look for the store, and search 'Splatoon,'" Jun instructed, "then click the first one you see and install it. Once it's installed, click into it, and choose a species, gender, hairstyle, eye color, and legwear (the rest of the clothes can be bought or unlocked and then equipped). Your hair color depends on what team you're on. You start off with the Splattershot Jr., which isn't very powerful, so there are booths around where you can buy weapons as well as clothes, if you're tired of wearing the simple T-shirt and headband you start off in."
As if on cue, an Inkling who just got there mimed looking at her shirt in confusion.

I listen and do as Jun says; once Splatoon is installed, I choose Octoling as my species, male as my gender, and choose my hairstyle, eye color, and legwear randomly, mainly only sticking with dark gray and blue colors. The new design, colors, and styles of this new avatar is strange to me, but I make an effort to get used to it. I await my next instructions concerning joining the team.

(By the way, yeah, the dudes and dudettes in my sig are Octolings.)
Liv studies her Dualies, spins them a couple times, practices aiming them. Another Octoling with a ponytail, sporting a Slosher, joins her, while a girl with an Inkbrush follows suit. The fifth team member is Jay, and the sixth is Lord Sandwich.
A wavy-haired Inkling girl with Dualies joins the other team, along with a straight-haired one wearing the Hero Suit Replica and wielding the Hero Slosher Replica. The next opponent to join is Jun, then a boy with side-swept hair in a ponytail who wielded a Charger.
"Looks like, entirely by chance, we've got a six-by-six battle between Inklings and Octolings!" Marie announces, surprised.
"And it's not even a proper Splatfest!" Marina adds.
"Does anyone have popcorn?" Pearl quips. "I would smash for some popcorn right now."
"They have some in the back," Callie replied casually. "Convenient, huh?"
"'Kay, I'll go get some."
"Get a big bucket so we can share!" Marina calls as Pearl leaves.
"'Kay! Match is about to start though."
Meanwhile, Jun and Jay are throwing silly, lighthearted insults at each other.
"We have more tentacles, you know that right?"
"We probably made some of those weapons and you wouldn't know it!"
"You have...crazy hair!"
"Why thank you. You're a real gentleman."
"And most of you don't even speak our language! You probably don't even know what I'm saying right now."
"I do," Jay replied, "and I'm not impressed."
"Well, well...squids are just...better!"
"Uh...uh...octopuses are smarter though!"
"We swim faster!"
"We're better with our hands!"
Some of the Octolings groan, shake their heads, facepalm, look confused, or silently pray to themselves. The Inklings are either trying to get the two to stop arguing or making fun of Octolings themselves.
"This is getting interesting," Tracer said from the audience, leaning in. "Bit worried about the team lineup though."
"I didn't think I'd ever see myself watching cephalopods battle, to be honest," Spiderman replied. "Not sure who to root for either. They're both cool creatures"
"I don't know," Lloyd admitted. "They both seem pretty cool. I'm leaning more towards octopi though, especially since one of my guys is in there."
