I am afraid I do not know what Tencent is. When I looked it up I just got a Chinese company. Is that what you are talking about?
Yes. Tencent is a large Chinese media distributor.
for any corporation to do business in China, it must first be officially recognized by the government, and must agree to play by rules and restrictions that won't go against the government's ego, agenda, etc.
A partnership with a group like Tencent is just one way to gain this recognition.
The article details how LEGO has renewed a partnership with them, and they're producing media that will be furthering who knows what aspects of the PRC's regime.

Ah, yes I think I understand.
So Tencent Is a sort of link between the government and a business?

It's probably more complicated than that but the partnership basically means a strong tie between LEGO and the PRC, even if indirectly.

Okay, I think i get it.
So may I inquire what your riffs consist of?
Basically I'm going off on a limb and saying they're producing whitewashed content for impressionable children growing under an oppressive regime, all in the name of cold hard profit, as the Chinese market is a very large one.

I see, so they change the content so that it coincides with the regime's policy and it's oppression, thus being able to sell their products to china?

If it ever needs to be changed, then yes. For example, I think you'd be hard-pressed to find skeleton minifigs in China, because for some reason the PRC just really hates skulls. And if there's such a thing as LEGO Winnie the Poo, it wouldn't be sold there... because people make fun of the 'president' for allegedly looking like the character! XD Though those are just two benign examples of censorship.
If nothing else they forego the right to speak out against anything bad the government might and has done, compromising their ability to condemn breaches of Human rights and such if and when they come up.
I'm not saying the LEGO Group is evil, but lately we have seen certain corporations either fail to speak out against or outright act like they condone certain breaches of Human rights. Blizzard and apparently the NFL come to mind.
Basically what I'm saying is: the PRC can puppet free-world corporations through sheer economic and market influence.

I think I received a notification saying that you posted on here, but I can't see your post. Probably a glitch.

Totally not because I myself seem to have been censored
