I disagree. Like astro said, at least give the option, or start people off with a required one programming course. Do you realize how many programming jobs there are right now? I got offered an internship out of high school, and some of my friends got actual jobs in it:S. Out of HIGH SCHOOL. No college degree. When people are desperate enough to hire high school students, something needs to be done in the education system.
I said it should be an option. It just shouldn't be pushed like it is. Every kid wants to be a programmer.
Yes, but how many actually end up doing it? Apparently not too many as there are tons of programming job openings like I said in the prior post:P.

I have seen TONS of games made by single people pretty quickly on the internet. For example, I just got openGL and looked up some games made in it. They aren't the best, but they were made by one person and probably within a month. I agree that they require more than basic coding though.
Okay, making a good game
I mean yeah, pygame.org is full of ridiculously good games, but there's a reason one-man projects never really get famous.
Games don't have to be "famous" to be proud of them. My hope is I can make a few games and put them on a resume so I can help on a bigger one for which I get paid.

I don't know anything off the top of the my head, but that's what I heard. Plus it's harder to make big programs because of it's lack of braces. It's annoying to have to indent everything right, especially in big programs.
Eh, that's more a stylistic thing. Python is inherently way easier to read, and it forces good style; unlike Java and C where as long as you have the right number of braces it vaguely works.
Also Java and C++ are statically typed languages along with making you compile stuff. Python is much faster to develop in.
Well, all I know is there's a reason MUCH more people use Java and C++ than Python:P.

Not a required programming course; that'll just erase any idea of fun from it. Push Hour of Code and make it extracurricular.
I have helped with Hour of Code at my tech school before. Still, if you don't require one, at least OFFER one. I was lucky to find a tech school connected to my school that offered one, and boy was that awesome:D!

it was bad with bad graphics but you know, I was only 6.
Heh, that's better then what I was making in Scratch at seven Like, waaaay better
I used Scratch as a kid too. I tried linking to my games, but astrokid said it wasn't a "safe" site, despite having the same guidelines as LEGO.com. Hopefully this changes.

1 hour of programming as an extracurricular activity sounds like a MUCH better idea.

C++ and Java have an unfair advantage, as they're both based on C which predates Python by around a decade
Java is dying really fast in terms of web applications, and C++ is used in entirely different circumstances from Python usually

Honestly, contributing to open-source projects probably would look better, as it also shows your ability to work in a team, which is invaluable in programming.

there's a technical school near my school.
it offers no foreign languages and in general looks awful for getting accepted into college

Java is still a top language I feel. For one, my dad who works on Amazon's robots uses Java for the code he writes, and Amazon is one of the biggest companies in the world!

I want to help with an LU project, but one uses C# which I don't know and the other apparently doesn't want any help:(.

Well, I went to normal school and just went to the tech school for 90 minutes a day. Not to mention I got college credit for my programming courses. Of course that doesn't matter to me anymore as I dropped out of college:P.

Welcome to Coders Corner! This is a topic where fellow programmers can talk about programming, what programs they are working on, and help each other out! Just post a profile with the languages you know and how long you have been programming. Here's my profile: Name: Diglett809 Languages: C++, Java, Python, Visual Basic Years of Experience: 3
