The original LMBs had a Petrolhead's Chatroom and it was pretty active (about 60 pages before the LMBs were closed). It appears as if nobody else has made on on here, so I'm doing it .

A question to you guys, what's your favourite car? Mine is the Koenigsegg Regera, an extremely fast car with 1,479 horsepower. It uses a twin-turbo 5-litre V8 that can run on biofuel along with three electric motors. It's so fast that it doesn't even need a gearbox - the combined power is enough to do 0-60mph in 2.7 seconds and 0-186mph in about 10 seconds. Even at that speed, it can do burnouts. Top speed is limited to 250mph.

FINALLY someone put this back up. Well my family have been trying to get a new car recently (our current Citroen Berlingo kept dropping bits of so its not very helpful when you have to drive to Scotland and back ) I want a Honda Civic Tourer, my Dad wants a Landrover, My Mum wants an Audi(?) Kangoo, my Brother wants a Lamborghini, and my cute little sister wants a four-seater bicycle. But as the Honda doesn't have a large boot, the Landrover is too expensive and Mum hates them, the Lamboghini is just... NO[/b][/u], I have no idea whats wrong with the kangoo, and the bicycle... seriously? So instead we're gonna get some sorta Volkswagen. *Breaths heavily*

We were in a similar situation last year. We wanted to sell our 2011 VW Touran (our other car is a 2014 Golf) to get something new. It was a Dieselgate car anyway ...
Our requirements were that it was automatic (all our previous cars were manual) in order to make stop-start driving in traffic jams easier. The budget was about £30k. It needed to carry 4 people plus enough luggage space for 1 or 2 week trips.
I think my parents were considering getting a Civic Tourer but they saw it had ridiculously large boot space figures for its dimensions and reasoned that the interior must be cramped. Other cars they considered:
Mazda CX-5 - very good car, but I think my parents were put off by the 2.2-litre displacement of the diesel. Silly. Mazda engines (apart from rotaries) tend to be larger because they run less turbo boost, meaning they sacrifice emissions test performance for real-world fuel economy, which is a good thing.
BMW 2-series Active Tourer. Too expensive.
Toyota RAV4 - my dad drove the hybrid and said it felt strained on the motorway because of the CVT. Despite the car having 200hp, more than anything else we tested.
Mitsubishi Outlander PHEV - too expensive.
Audi Q3 - too expensive.
Nissan Qashqai - didn't have as good equipment as the others.
I mostly stayed out of the decision for now, because knowing me, I'd have asked for them to get something silly like a Golf R Estate . But I intervened when they announced their final two choices:
Volkswagen Tiguan
SEAT Ateca
I told them that they were THE SAME CAR! In the end they decided to go for the SEAT in 4drive Xcellence trim. Fully optioned, it cost about £33k. But this is what it had:
Engine: 2-litre diesel with 190PS (187hp, 140kW). Same engine as the Golf GTD I think.
Transmission: 7-speed dual-clutch. Inner geek gets excited. And it has FREAKING PADDLE SHIFTERS!!!
4-wheel drive. Not a necessity, but it came with the trim level (only this trim had the dual-clutch).
Leather seats. The whole interior felt like a £50k Audi or Merc.
Full load of gadgetry like lane assist, traffic jam assist and whatnot. When it's night-time and you open the front doors, lights appear at the opening of the doors so you don't step into a puddle. They even had an Ateca Xcellence logo.
It's a very nice car and I sometimes feel a little excited when I get to ride in it (as opposed to the Golf which suddenly feels less nice ). What's more, they're still incredibly rare on the roads. I've probably seen fewer than 10 other Atecas on the road since we took delivery in January this year.
At school, I take a subject called Systems and Controls. It's a GCSE that basically covers every type of engineering there is - you do a written exam and make a project. Mine was an automatic vacuum cleaner that moves around autonomously and senses obstacles to avoid them. I had to build the chassis (laser-cut plywood), make the mechanisms (castor wheels and motors with gearing), design and make the printed circuit board and program the microchip. It's a lot of fun, and my teacher said "the subject is made for me" . Sounds about right - I got the highest mark in the class for the project while only attending half the lessons (I had to miss the rest to do extra advanced math classes - it's complicated ).
But then my teacher did something that really angered me. When trying to show the different kinds of motion, he held up a piston from a car engine (complete with connecting rod) and held up a camshaft. Then he said "This goes on here". !

I hope your parents make a good decision
[/quote] Well... My parents don't really care what we get as long as it has a decent unleaded tank somewhat compfy, and you can actually drive it. ROTFLOL! Did they even look the same? Yeah so do I. I don't to end up with another Berlingo.

Wow thats pretty cool! I can only imagine and invent currently beause of certain "monetary" commitments.

I'm not a fan of the Berlingo's looks (or for that matter the appearance of most other MPVs such as the near-identical Peugeot Partner, the Peugeot Bipper and the Renault Trafic). In my opinion, the least-offensive looking MPVs are the VW Touran, Ford B-max, Ford C-max and BMW 2-series Active Tourer.
The Tiguan and Ateca don't look exactly the same - the Tiguan has VW-like features (such as a horizontal-line grille) whereas the Atecas has SEAT features. But the chassis and platform is the same, it's just that the VW is more expensive, has upper-range engines (I think you can get a V6) and more features.
What kind of body style are they looking for? You could consider a saloon or estate like a Skoda Octavia, Skoda Superb (I've heard it's very good - it's based on the VW Passat), Mazda 6 (the newer ones look considerably more expensive than they really are) or Toyota Avensis.

Neither do I but my parents do. Well we're looking for at least a five-seater, petrol engine, large boot, preferable 7 seater but all the cars with that are diesel.

Then probably either a crossover, estate or MPV. Tell your parents to look at car guides such as Which and Top Gear - they typically highligt the best cars in each class.

Alrighty! I'm beginning to agree with Dad on getting a Landrover now...

Land Rovers tend to have poor reliability and are rather expensive for what they are. I would say go for a different SUV - there are literally tons. If you want something that's a little similar to a Land Rover, perhaps a Nissan X-Trail?

Today I saw a very strange Golf. I'm pretty sure it was a replica, because it looked like the Golf GTI W12, an extremely rare car. Only one exists.
Yes, you read that right. Volkswagen stuffed a 600hp W12 into a Golf. It's mid-engined and rear-wheel drive. It gets big R8-like black air intake slits, so it isn't exactly a sleeper. The car is limited to 60% power for the first two gears - probably a good thing. Top speed is 200mph.

Today I saw a Honda S2000 (one of my favourite cars - it has the highest mean piston speed of ANY road car engine!), and I wasn't pleased when my parents asked me "what's so special about another little Mazda?" IT'S NOT A FREAKING MIATA!!!
