Lots of people have been begging for an obi wan standalone film which I find very strange because 80% of his story including what seems to be all of his pivotal and powerful moments IMO has already been covered in the first 2 trilogies along with tcw tv show slightly in Rebels and in the recent marvel comic books. I would love Ewan Mgreggor back as Obi wan but it still seems highly unlikley unless he plays a new character because Obiwan is dead and his story simply complete. Although a way it could work is if they make a movie about his time basically alone as an ageing hermit on Tattoine after ep3 right up close to episode 4 using alec mguiness facial CGI and great makeup on Ewan to show the gradual change. The main points of the film could be Obi Wan speaking with his masters Qui gon and Yoda learning how to live on past death through the force, dealing with tuskens, the hutts and watching over Luke whilst having to deal with the highly protective Owen Lars.
It would also be a great oppurtunity to have plenty of live action flashbacks of Anakin Ahsoka an (played by Ashley Eckinstien or Rosa Dawson as she really wants to play her though both look to old to play a young version of her) and the Clone Wars as he reflects on his life like his mentoring of Anakin to his eventual failure of his teaching an we could see allot more story about the 2 jedi between ep1 & 2 as well as other adventures Obi Wan and ui gon went on together before episode 1 though Ewan may look a bit too old now to play a young obi wan. We could also see live action flashbacks of duchess Satine and Darth Maul as well as his death perhaps by the hands of Kenobi as scene in Rebels season 3. We could also see a live action battle of Obi wan against the wookiee hunter black Krrstan and him saving an 8 yr old Luke from hutt tax thugs during Tatooines great drought. Also aspects of the Legends book Kenobi could be incorporated in the film like how people find out his real surname, how he deals with the locals, love, attachment and the deadly Krayt Dragon along with scenes of the ageing jedi writing down his teachings in a journal that Luke will eventually find. Picture the film In a sort of Seven years in Tibet style but instead of Brad Pitt its Obi wan.
Though my point is still that all of this may sound interesting and great in terms of creating a connection between the prequel and original trilogy and showing interesting ideas that would really please big time fans but Obi wans life on tatooine between 3 & 4 is meant to be terribly boring an uneventful to the point of depression and insanity so the film is unlikly to have any action if set in this era which would be the most likley because Kenobi is learning how to be peaceful which would mean allot of not very exciting meditating.
So I would be interested in seeing a film like this with live action ascpects of Rebels,TCW and canon comic material as a hardcore fan but all that is nothing we havent seen before making it interesting but confusing an disjointed to the average fan or cinema goer so I dont think an Obi Wan film will happen at all sadly. If the terribly structured Rebels tv show didnt exist as cannon and we had a live action tv series set between 3 and 4 based of Rebels an his story Im sure it would've worked especially for older viewers.
I totally agree it would be awesome to see McGregor return as Obi-Wan, but I've always been thinking a movie about his life as a hobo would be very boring and wouldn't really work cinematically.
Obi-Wan finds a mountain and climbs it. He's all like "This is pretty cool." And then some bad guy shows up and he's like "Hello there", and they're like, "Ah, General Kenobi," and they the bad guy tries to attack him, but he's like "I have the high ground!" And then the bad guy would get totally punk'd, and Obi-Wan would be all like "Hey, I like the high ground."
Personally, I like Obi-Wan's character so much I'd gladly watch a film of him just sitting around doing pretty much nothing. I kind of wanted a Maul duel to be the central part but that won't be possible now. There is plenty of content I'd imagine for someone like me who doesn't really go deep into comics or lore, I just sort of watch and enjoy the films and maybe look at a bit of the lore but I'm not really super immersed in it.
I've always ranked an Obi-Wan film higher on my list than a Han Solo film though because I think Han Solo's character arc is perfect the way it is and having a "young" Han Solo doesn't really make sense for me when we all like him as this sort of scoundrel who's rough around the edges I'm not sure he'll be like that when they portray his younger self.

Looks like its near to being confirmed that we will get an Obi wan film afterall.
I still cant see a proper interesting plot for it though within the new canon. Though it could be about him solving some mystery of his youth perhaps as a padawan whilst an aging hermit on Tatooine.
If it does actually happen they need to call it simply( Kenobi) or (Obi wan).
If Ewan McGregor isn't Obi-Wan, then I won't watch it.
Simple as that.
Me too he is ideal now that hes a bit older to play Ben Kenobi in exile on Tatooine. To pick someone else as him unless as his younger self in flashbacks would be silly. Even then they could just do CGI like they did with the young Tony Stark in Civil War an Jack Sparrow in PoTC 5.

I personally would like it to be a sort of Star Wars/Logan hybrid, with him in Tatooine, as a hermit in isolation, but, say some gangsters are terrorising a town or something and he comes out of hiding to help them.
I wouldn't like them to do the CGI thing, in Civil War and DMTNT it was (somewhat) convincing, but in Rogue One it was painfully obvious.
