I know what you're thinking. Just another hater of TLNM who can't help but constantly whine about change. But I promise you this isn't because I'm a Ninjago fan. I don't like the TV show all that much. It's okay. This something else.
So, I think most of you have heard the news. The LEGO Ninjago Movie got it's first trailer, and is headed for a release in September. We do have plenty of info on how it will work at this point.
And, just to remind everyone, it's a blockbuster movie. You would always expect much from a blockbuster movie, right? So what's the problem? It's a movie with Jackie Chan and a high budget, so it must have a lot of potential.
Unfortunately, there is one big mistake this movie made. One massive turn towards the wrong direction. I have some issues with this movie, but I feal mostly for the writing. And that's because Warner Brothers chose the writers to be...
...Kevin and Dan Hageman.
Let me just state my opinion on this. This is a terrible decision. Let me repeat what I said earlier-TLNM is a large budget, Jackie Chan, BLOCKBUSTER movie. For such a quality-demanding movie to work, you would need a veteran writer. But The LEGO Ninjago Movie?
WB decided that instead of hiring a proffesional writer experienced with movie-writing, they chose the Hagemans, of all people. The Hagemans, for a blockbuster movie. I mean, come on.
The Ninjago TV show has nowhere near enough acclaim for the Hagemans to be considered experienced enough to write a blockbuster movie. Fans of Ninjago will say that Ninjago is the most acclaimed TV show of all time, but just look at the ratings. It holds a 6.6/10 rating on IMDb.
And despite all that, WB still thought this would be a good idea.
*Sigh*
Do you get my point now? Ninjago is not the absolute best TV show of all time. The Hagemans may be your favourite writers, but good enough to write a blockbuster movie? No chance. There is nothing that proves they could actually pull this off.
Now, don't get me wrong, I'm not trying to insult the Hagemans. I'm just stating my opinion. The LEGO Ninjago movie is going towards, for the 100th time, the blockbuster direction. You'd expect veterans to be writing a movie like that. So it just doesn't make any sense why the Hagemans were chosen for this. Unless the Hagemans are being accompanied by other writers, my expectatians for this movie are low.
It just seems like this was being done purely to grab the attention of Ninjago fans, and then fill the pockets of the employees of WB. I am just so dissapointed.
P.S. Yes, I am aware of the acclaim of Trollhunters. But that had an entire writing team behind it, not just the Hagemans.
First off, the Hageman brothers are not the only writers of the LEGO Ninjago Movie. There is also Hilary Winson, Bob Logan, and Paul Fisher. I haven't seen any of their work, but they are three writers bringing different ideas to the table and making sure that the story makes sense. Having additional writers to reel in Gene Roddenberry made Star Trek great.
Second, the Hageman Brothers are responsible for Hotel Transylvania, the LEGO Movie and Trollhunters. As much as I love Ninjago, it has some issues. The reason Ninjago isn't as good as it could be is because the series wasn't formally planned out like it should've been. They've said it themselves on multiple occasions that if they could go back and plan it, they would.
With that in mind, this movie has the potential to be great. I'm not saying it will be, but if all the other writers did their jobs it has the potential to be an enjoyable movie.

While that is good to hear, it still doesn't make sense why they where chosen.
Also, the trailer has denied this movie will be good. After watching it, I have high doubts about the movie.

What was so bad about it?
Let's go over the movie. In this movie, the ninja that feel a lot like entirely new characters and not one bit like the actual characters, will be fighting...men wearing shark suits. Helping them is Sensei Wu, who is as...wise-cracking as he is wise. And the entire movie will center around...Lloyd, even after his large spotlight in seasons 1-2.
So...I guess the movie will end with Garmadon turning good and him, Lloyd and...Koko...having a family reunion. How unpredictable. -_-

I think you get my point now.
Dude, the characters are SUPPOSED to be different from the TV show. This movie has NOTHING to do with the TV show and isn't canon to it.
~l)~/\/~/-\~ The tie between real life and legos is imagination .

I'm not saying that the characters should be exact replicas of the TV show characters. I'm just saying they should at least feel slightly similar.
Also, what's you input on the predictable plot, overly cheesy villains and story, and the Lloyd focus?
I'm not saying this movie will be a flop while pretending I can predict the future. It just doesn't look like a good movie to me. But if it get's positive reception, I'll eat my words.

If it was, all Ninjago fans, the people who this movie is targeted most at, would all know exactly how it was going to end.

They are slightly similar most likely. For one thing, they look the same. I didn't find Garmadon cheesy and I don't think we even know the plot yet:S. And what's wrong with Lloyd being the main character?

It's hard to center a whole movie around a particular character besides Lloyd without angering some parts of the Ninjago fandom.

I guess that's just how I look at them.
I don't think Garmadon is cheesy. He looks great! His sealife minions are the problem.
Lloyd used to be the Ultimate Spinjitzu Master. I think he's had enough focus.
