I know what you're thinking. Just another hater of TLNM who can't help but constantly whine about change. But I promise you this isn't because I'm a Ninjago fan. I don't like the TV show all that much. It's okay. This something else.
So, I think most of you have heard the news. The LEGO Ninjago Movie got it's first trailer, and is headed for a release in September. We do have plenty of info on how it will work at this point.
And, just to remind everyone, it's a blockbuster movie. You would always expect much from a blockbuster movie, right? So what's the problem? It's a movie with Jackie Chan and a high budget, so it must have a lot of potential.
Unfortunately, there is one big mistake this movie made. One massive turn towards the wrong direction. I have some issues with this movie, but I feal mostly for the writing. And that's because Warner Brothers chose the writers to be...
...Kevin and Dan Hageman.
Let me just state my opinion on this. This is a terrible decision. Let me repeat what I said earlier-TLNM is a large budget, Jackie Chan, BLOCKBUSTER movie. For such a quality-demanding movie to work, you would need a veteran writer. But The LEGO Ninjago Movie?
WB decided that instead of hiring a proffesional writer experienced with movie-writing, they chose the Hagemans, of all people. The Hagemans, for a blockbuster movie. I mean, come on.
The Ninjago TV show has nowhere near enough acclaim for the Hagemans to be considered experienced enough to write a blockbuster movie. Fans of Ninjago will say that Ninjago is the most acclaimed TV show of all time, but just look at the ratings. It holds a 6.6/10 rating on IMDb.
And despite all that, WB still thought this would be a good idea.
*Sigh*
Do you get my point now? Ninjago is not the absolute best TV show of all time. The Hagemans may be your favourite writers, but good enough to write a blockbuster movie? No chance. There is nothing that proves they could actually pull this off.
Now, don't get me wrong, I'm not trying to insult the Hagemans. I'm just stating my opinion. The LEGO Ninjago movie is going towards, for the 100th time, the blockbuster direction. You'd expect veterans to be writing a movie like that. So it just doesn't make any sense why the Hagemans were chosen for this. Unless the Hagemans are being accompanied by other writers, my expectatians for this movie are low.
It just seems like this was being done purely to grab the attention of Ninjago fans, and then fill the pockets of the employees of WB. I am just so dissapointed.
P.S. Yes, I am aware of the acclaim of Trollhunters. But that had an entire writing team behind it, not just the Hagemans.
