So today I have listened to Scheherazade Rimsky Korsakov, Rachmonoff variations on a theme by Paganini, piano concerto #2, and prelude in g. Grieg piano concerto, Beethoven moonlight sonata movements one and three, and Lizt Hungarian Raposidy #2 and La Campanella. Oh, and Gershwins' Rapsiody in Blue. And its only 1:08 PM. Its been a good day.
A little... Maybe more than a little. Eurovision is huge in Australia, we all get up super early to binge watch. I'm not a huge fan of pop music either, but I still get my Eurovision fix. Unfortunately we came ninth this year. Isaiah was great though. He not only represented Australia, but the Indigenous and Torres Strait Islanders of Australia. Last year we finished second and the year before (our first year) fifth. At least we allow culturally diverse singers to represent us. Guy Sebastian was born in Malaysia, Dami Im is from Korea, while Isaiah is Indigenous.
To be honest, I would not be surprise if an Aussie encouraged the prankster. It's something we'd do.
That prankster does a lot of strange things - I don't think he needs encouragement .
How did Australia get into Eurovision anyway ?!?
Just saying that we're the type of people who'd encourage it/give him a flag.
That's a long and complicated story. Lots of people whinge about us being there. I think it's because their nation is either not invited or placed lower than ours. One of our channels, the SBS is a memeber of the EBU who in turn owns Eurovision. It costs thousands to show Eurovision on your channel but the SBS has been doing so and gaining high viewership (even though it's live in the early hours of the morning) for more than thirty years. So we have always been an associate member of the competition but was never allowed to compete due to not being European. That's ironic considering Israel is not European, nor are many other participants. I guess they just drew the line at the southern hemisphere. Basically, we were invited for the competition's 60th anniversary and invited again due to our success and loyalty.
Eurovision is so big here that Australia actually made ABBA popular. They won Eurovision and would have fizzled out if Australia wasn't an associate member. So we pretty much gave the competition meaning. If ABBA wasn't successful, the show would not go on. What's the point of spending money on something that doesn't give results.
So yeah, that is why Australia is in Eurovision. Some people will tell you it's because we're mostly European but that's not true anymore. Australia, like the USA is a melting pot, though probably a better example of a culturally successful one IMO. We haven't been European since the abolition of the White Australian Policy in 1965. A popular Australia songs features the lines "We are one, but we are many , and from all the lands on earth we come , we share a dream and sing with one voice: I am, you are, we are Australian". That pretty much sums up our Eurovision singers too.
America's Got Talent is anything, not just singing. Not to mention that's voted on by judges. In American Idol, people vote by texting/calling the show.
I see.

Good luck with that.
It's a program most likely. You just call or text a certain number for each singer to vote. You don't have to say anything.

So, my bro got home from college and he played this song called "Flexicution" like 5 times in the car. Then today at work, my friend there played it on his phone. I had NEVER heard of it before, and now it's all I hear:S. Just thought it was weird. It's some rap song, I don't like it, just thought that was funny:P.

Mmm, Rachmaninoff, Grieg, Beethoven. Sounds like my kind of musical discussion. I really enjoy all of those pieces you've mentioned. Sadly, my life has been very busy and music listening has kind of fallen aside a little. What's you're take on Gustav Mahler?

Well I have to say I'd NEVER have guessed that. Unfortunatly I wouldn'd know about that sort of thing because I homeschooled. There was this time when I was about 7 or 8 and I was in beaver scouts, and this guy came up to me and asked me "Hey Sam, have you got a girlfiend?" to which I answered, not knowing that it meant a realation ship, "Yes" I'd tell you what happened next but that would cost me my pride and reputation.
Once my parents had some people over for dinner, and one of the women was from Vietnam and spoke in a very strong accent (by strong, I mean barely comprehensible). She asked me something which I couldn't understand, so I said "Yes". Turns out she asked "Have you got a girlfriend?" . It took me several tries to explain that I didn't have one. From then on, I answered "No" to her questions .
Wow. I don't actually know who would say that though, I think its a bit wierd. I don't mean anything personal to anybody, but I seriously don't get "relationships" a that sort of age, or any age belowe 17! Most of the time they end rather awkwardly and no one is happy. But then again, I have never been to a public school so I don't really know what its like.
Anyone been watching Eurovision? I'm not a fan (don't like most pop music in general), but my brother watched it. He voted for Moldova because of this "epic saxophone guy" . The only bit I saw was the bit where a Ukrainean prankster invaded the stage covered with an Australian flag . Apparently that guy has a history of doing weird stuff at big events.
Nope. What is it? BTW What sort of music do you enjoy?

Sounds cool! I don't listen to music much, but I'm currently learning Saint-Saens' Piano Concerto No 2 in G minor. I've managed to battle my way through the first movement, but there's still a long way to go. There's this killer passage with hundreds of octave chords that really tires the hand.

That's what I thought, and for the most part it's true. I have seen relationships that actually work well, but a lot of the time one person starts controlling the other person or becoming very needy, and it breaks down super quickly. I used to be completely adverse to a relationship and think I'd never have one in my life, but now I think I could see myself in one as long as it was really the right person.
To be honest it varies between classes. My class tended to be the old "boys hate girls, girls hate boys" thing, and it worked .
