Frightful Riders (Part Five of Seven)
Zachaery Thoran: The rider of Athliotos, Zachaery Thoran was Kelrin’s archmagi and one of very few magic-users in his army. Thoran was once the apprentice of Septimus Merlinsson, but he grew tired of following Septimus’s orders and jealous of his master’s strength, so he went to Kelrin and joined his army, also revealing the existence of Sichasia’s egg and helping Kelrin to steal it. For his aid, he was rewarded with the fourth and final egg taken from the den. During the battle, Thoran led the attack in the mountains. Between his magic and Athliotos’s strength, the army was able to stand for a long time against multiple tribes of goblins and many dragons. However, when they turned their attentions to Skrag and Zargan Kalkuzar arrived and smashed them both. The bond between Thoran and Athliotos enhances Thoran’s magical abilities but prevents them from being separated for long.
Athliotos: Ridden by Zachaery Thoran, Athliotos was the final dragon taken from the den by Kelrin. Middling in strength, Athliotos had blue and white scales and used lightning as a breath weapon. Miserable in the army, Athliotos hated war and the only reason he did not flee was because he could not survive being away from Thoran for long. He contributed greatly to the battle in the mountains and was only smashed when Kalkuzar arrived to save Zargan.

Frightful Riders (Part Six of Seven)
Arrana: The rider of Sichasia, Arrana was the youngest person in Kelrin’s army to receive a dragon egg, and the only woman. She was extremely skilled, and invaluable in the recovery of Sichasia’s egg, which resulted in Kelrin choosing her to possess it. Generally, Arrana kept aloof from the rest of the army, leading many to question why she was there in the first place. She initially was part of the attack on the Dwarven Citadel, but she fought Skrag and Zargan at the Falcon castle after the battle moved there. During the night, Septimus Merlinsson arrived in her tent and smashed her and Sichasia, enraged over the loss of the egg he had created. Arrana and Sichasia’s bond enhanced the senses of both.
Sichasia: Ridden by Arrana, Sichasia’s egg was stolen from Septimus Merlinsson, a magical-alchemical experiment he had been conducting to prove he was worthy of a place among the Ancients. Sichasia was the youngest of Kelrin’s dragons by a significant amount, but already she was almost as big as most of them, and among the stronger ones. She had white and red scales, no breath weapon, only two legs, and extremely heightened senses thanks to her bond with Arrana. Because of Sichasia’s strength, she felt superior to the other dragons. She would often tell Arrana how disgusted she was by their perceived weakness. Sichasia and Arrana fought in the battle against the Dwarven Citadel, and then at the Falcon castle, where they were smashed by Septimus Merlinsson.

Frightful Riders (Part Seven of Seven)
Jon: The rider of Potestas, Jon was born and raised in Legolie’s kingdom. He happened across Potestas’s egg by chance, and when the other elves discovered that he had a dragon they became fearful of him and isolated him. Eventually, they decided that this dragon was too powerful a weapon for him to wield, and some tried to take it away. Jon and Potestas smashed them and fled, eventually meeting Kelrin, who taught them that they had the power to punish those who had attacked them and to rule over others. In preparation for the coming war, Kelrin sent them to infiltrate Hithrol’s Dragon Riders. Their lessons proved too strong, however, for they eventually decided that they needed to destroy all of the elves for what they had done, and that they needed to smash all the other dragon riders so that they would be the most powerful people. In the forest, they smashed Calin and Glenda, before taking control of Kelrin’s army there, but they couldn’t wait for the battle to be over before attacking their own allies, Gorvechev and Ponos. Though Jon succeeded in this endeavor, Potestas was smashed, and then Jon was as well, by the elven forces.
Potestas: Ridden by Jon, Potestas’s egg was lost while being transported to an unknown location by the dragons that live deep within the forest. It was found by Jon, and the two of them formed a bond. Potestas was enraged even more than Jon by the elven attack, and it is possible that this, combined with Jon’s obsession with power and revenge, drove her mad. Like Jon, she wanted revenge on the elves and all the power she could have, and this came to a head when she smashed both Glenda and Ponos. Potestas was known among Kelrin’s dragons for her brutality, and it was said she would eat anything that resembled meat – including dragon. During the battle against the elves, Potestas was smashed by Gorvechev in revenge for Ponos.
Happy Thanksgiving, everybody! I'm done posting about Kelrin's dragon riders now, but I do have some more content for you while we wait for me to finish the sequel. Starting tomorrow, I'm going to start bringing you some updated information about dragons in this world. All of this will replace the old Author's Note on dragons. I hope you enjoy!

Let’s Try It Again – Dragons (Part One of Six)
A long time ago, I wrote up an Author’s Note about dragons and posted it in one of the between-Part sections. Recently, I have begun thinking more about dragons in the world of Half-Breed, and I just don’t think this old piece of lore matches up well with my current plans. For this reason, I am now going to write up a new and improved description of dragons within the world of Half-Breed. Here it is.
Dragons are among the most powerful species in the known world. They are giant reptilian creatures and have inspired both fear and awe in humanoid races. Though they mature much more quickly than humans, dragons can live for hundreds of years and continue to grow for most of their lives. The main things that separate them from giant reptiles are intelligence and magic. Most dragons are as smart as or smarter than humans. Dragons also have deep physiological connections to magic, granting them powerful abilities but also making them susceptible to the dreaded Dragonsbane plant. Just ingesting a tiny bit of Dragonsbane or being scratched by a weapon coated in Dragonsbane juice can instantly smash them. I am now going to cover some breeds of dragon found within the world of Half-Breed, as well as a couple of species closely related to dragons.

Let’s Try It Again – Dragons (Part Two of Six)
Mountain Dragons: Like all proper dragons, mountain dragons are scaly and winged. Their scales can be a variety of different colors, and they often have scales of one color and spikes or bellies of another. They tend to have horned heads and ridges or spikes along their spines, with their tails ending in weapon-like spikes or clubs. All mountain dragons can fly with the aid of their wings and their magic and can breathe fire. Like other dragons, their mating cycle takes place over several years and individuals have different cycle lengths. They can also only produce one egg at a time. This means that in most groups, even those of considerable size, there are only a few eggs each year. All the eggs are entrusted to a den mother, who hatches and raises them. Because of this, dragons often identify their parentage by their father and their den mother, with some never knowing the identity of their birth mother. Mountain dragons and humanoid groups have seen numerous conflicts over the centuries, but more recently barriers have been set and they tend to stay apart. This is one reason why dragons dislike having members of their group leave and having humans in their territory. Kalkuzar is a mountain dragon, as are most of the members of his group. However, there is a sizable number of desert, forest, and frost dragons among them, which has, among other things, led them to possess a wide variety of breath weapons.

Let’s Try It Again – Dragons (Part Three of Six)
Desert Dragons: Similar to mountain dragons in certain respects, desert dragons do have scales and wings, as well as spikes along their backs, but they typically only have two legs, where mountain dragons have four, and sometimes have a second, smaller pair of wings. Desert dragons tend to be smaller on average than mountain dragons, and their scales tend toward earthier brown and gray tones. Some desert dragons have no breath weapon, but most have a gas-based breath weapon that can produce various effects in its victims. A few also have a camouflaging ability. Though they live in smaller groups than mountain dragons, they do have similar child-rearing behaviors. Desert dragons have had less contact with humanoids, since they live in an area that is generally not very hospitable.
Forest Dragons: Typically two-legged, forest dragons share similarities with both mountain dragons and desert dragons, including scales and wings. Like desert dragons, their tails do not have weaponized ends. Forest dragons also have some attributes that set them apart. Many forest dragons sport feathers around their head and neck, and their tails sometimes end in tufts. They are the most colorful dragons, with some even having patterns of stripes or spots. Though they don’t have proper breath weapons, they often inject venom from their fangs or spit acid. They are also the most solitary dragons, generally living in small groups. Living deep within the trees, forest dragons don’t have as much contact with humanoids as mountain dragons do, but these encounters are usually hostile.

Let’s Try It Again – Dragons (Part Four of Six)
Frost Dragons: Of all the dragon breeds, frost dragons share the most similarities with mountain dragons. They are large, scaly, four-legged, and winged, with horns and spikes in the expected places. Unlike mountain dragons, however, their tails are not weaponized, and their scales are much paler, usually white or a very light hue of another color. Frost dragons have a freezing breath, and a few possess a strange cold fire. Living in the far reaches of the northern tundra, frost dragons are very rarely seen, except by the rare groups of people living at similar latitudes. As a result, very little is known about their habits, though in general it is believed that they are similar to mountain dragons in most respects. It is known that they live in large groups.
Sea Serpents: Sea serpents, and their land-dwelling cousins, drakes, are not technically dragons, but they are very closely related, to the point where sea serpents are sometimes referred to as “water dragons”. Like dragons, sea serpents are scaly reptilians with a comparable intelligence to humans. Their scales are typically seen in shades of blue, green, and sometimes purple, with colorful and intricate patterns that are often said to shift from one moment to the next. They have no wings, but four legs. Sea serpents live in large bodies of water, most commonly seas or oceans, but occasionally large lakes as well. They tend to live in small familial groups. Compared to dragons, sea serpents are much more sinuous and serpentine, with wider paws webbed for swimming. Sea serpents can swim very quickly, and though they cannot fly they are able to move with great bursts of speed on land as well. They can, of course, also breathe underwater. Very few humanoids besides mermians have ever seen a sea serpent, since they rarely leave their aquatic homes.
