Disclaimer: I am not, in any way the owner nor a licensed worker of Darkflame Universe, and am not entitled to speak for, nor advocate for, Darkflame Universe. Darkflame Universe is it's own independent entity, and I assume no role of it.
So, I did a bit of nostalgia digging today (I really got to stop doing that), and I found out a project called "Darkflame Universe". Apparently, it is a project that has been worked on since 2014, and it's goal is to replicate Lego Universe for those who wish to play it. It has gone through alpha testing, and I believe it is currently going through Beta testing. The developer's have ambitions to release the game in late 2019. I have no idea how they would do it, but I would love to play LU once more.
The biggest thing we can do, is spread support and knowledge of this as much as we can. Right now, I don't think they are going into open testing, but I will do everything I can to keep you updated!!
So, allow me to give you a bit of a story to tell. Please be aware that I am not a member of Darkflame Universe, nor do I speak on behalf of them. This is all merely what I have been able to find.
A few years ago, around 2013-2014, a group of former LU players decided to create LU once again. This project would be dubbed "LUNI". Unfortunately, the group was unstable at best. As the months went by, more and more arguments occurred among the group, and eventually, the group fell apart. LUNI still exists to this day, but it is in poor shape. From this splinter though, one of the group members started working on their own group project, named "Darkflame Universe".
Darkflame Universe started in 2016, with only one person going through the coding and the designing. It is currently unknown whether or not the project is still being worked on by one person or multiple. Either way, the project is well underway, with Avant Gardens being finished, Nimbus station being completed, and Gnarled Forest is still being worked on. It is currently unknown to me about the other worlds, but I have a hunch that they will be finished in time as well.
The group intends to finish the project by the end of 2019 (I have high doubts), but it is currently unclear whether or not this will be final. What can be said, is that they have their own website that you can read, as well as a forums on said website (I say stay here! It's much more active and lively here!). Please spread the word of Darkflame Universe, and with all the support they can get, they can get it up and running sooner.

Hey! Pretty much, though DLU doesn't intend to finish by the end of 2019, they intend to get to closed Beta by that time. DLU also has multiple programmers currently.
In addition, not only Darkflame, but multiple, and when I say multiple I mean A LOT of other teams are actively working on a server emulator to bring LEGO Universe back.

I wonder how it would work, and if newer worlds would be added... The project does sound cool though.

Basically they have the LU client, and all they have to do is reprogram the server protocol or something like that. I think there might be additions and edits as well, but it's pretty cool.

The biggest concern I have is the music, and the copyright. I understand that the lego company does not endorse the project. However, the music is copyrighted. So, I wonder what will transpire?

As far as I'm concerned everything is copyrighted, including the LEGO minifigure and LEGO brick and each theme featured in LU. I heard that some server emulators got permission a while back from LEGO, and if they didn't they're really trying to not get in trouble (complying with their fair use thing, having really big disclaimers that no potential harm caused by these projects have anything to do with LEGO and assuring that LEGO doesn't endorse the project at all, etc). So far these projects have existed for a while and nothing from LEGO, so I think that's still a good sign.

Well that's a relief. I read on their twitter page that they were concerned over music. Now, the hard part is creating the worlds again. Not just that, but the possibility of adding them.

I think most server emulators have worlds already which is awesome. WLUS is a server emulator where all you have is that you could adventure through worlds. Like, there's no missions or characters to talk to. Just going around most of the worlds.

While that is a good nostalgia run, that only makes up a fraction of what lego universe was fun for. Fighting the different maelstrom enemies, going on exciting missions, getting crushed on Crux Prime.
All I'm saying is that I hope that we will have a lot of these things once more. And DU seems to be interested in the same thing.

Yeah, I agree. Maybe some worlds which were planned to get released in the actual LEGO Universe but were cancelled. (I think there were a few of those)

I remember these tiny worlds. Worlds that weren't part of the main battle, they were just...there. I wonder if those might be world not mentioned before.

Maybe. Do you ever wish you were able to program a server for LU yourself?

Absolutely, however I am not that tech savvy. My brother on the other hand has been able to code a robot in a military camp vacation.

I am I guess tech savvy or code smart? (I'm one of the designers of this site). Though I heard that the hard part of making LU again is not the coding part, it's understanding LEGO Universe, which is probably very hard. Anyone can learn how to code, but not everyone can learn to understand the complexity of LU.
I personally wish I could have the skills to make a LU project. I'm learning Node.js, a coding language which is used by one of the server projects, but I don't know how I'm going to learn LU.
