"Betynson? That sounds familiar." Azril looks to his left to see a young man a couple years older than him and Maicyn. He is dressed in light armor and carries a sword and a shield at his side. Looking at his face, Azril sees a striking resemblance to Hithrol Jiwovz, though this newcomer's is a deeper shade of brown. Dark, shaggy hair hangs almost to his eyes and there is a friendly smile on his face.
"He met the Riders when he was young--about my age."

"He met the Riders when he was young--about my age."
The man's grin broadens. "If I'm remembering correctly, then, he saved my father's life. Dernis Jiwovz. It's a pleasure to meet you." He extends a hand to shake.
Off to the other side, Maicyn rolls her eyes. Dernis sees her, arching his eyebrows. "Is there a problem?"
Maicyn shrugs. "I just don't see why we have to treat him like some kind of hero just because his dad happened to do something important before we were born."
"Is that why you hit him in the head, then?" Maicyn scowls at the comment. "Ignore her," says Dernis, returning his attention to Azril, "As for the rest of us, we're all glad to welcome you here."
The dragon who has crept up behind Dernis nods assent.

Azril's face blushes with pleasure from the praise. He casts a quick glance at Maicyn before taking Dernis's hand to shake it. "Th-- thank you! I'm really glad to be here." Robin wags his tail and sniffs at Dernis's legs.

"That's good to hear." Dernis turns aside, gesturing behind him to the dragon. Fairly large (though I guess Azril wouldn't know that), she has midnight blue scales. "Azril, this is my Companion, Aretgarlja. Aretgarlja, this is Azril Betynson."
The dragon smiles. "Welcome to the Riders. Do you have a Companion?"

Azril doesn't reply for a moment as he gapes in awe of the dragon--the first dragon he had ever seen before. Finally he stammers "Uh-- well, yes, but, actually, no." He gestures vaguely to the wolf standing beside him. "I've got Robin..."

"Oh, a dog! says Aretgarlja. "That's nice."
"I'm sure my father will be able to help you find a real Companion," Dernis adds.
Zariana nods. "If you like dogs, perhaps a Direwolf would be suitable. Back when I still went on missions, my Companion was a Direwolf. I happen to know where you might find one, if you're interested."

Zariana smiles. "In that case, I'll talk to Hithrol and see if I can arrange a trip."
Dernis climbs onto Aretgarlja's back. "It was nice to meet you," says the dragon.
"Aretgarlja and I are going to go practice some maneuvers now," Dernis clarifies. "See you around!"
With a powerful beat of her wings and a leap, Aretgarlja takes off.
"Well, I'd better go keep an eye on them," Zariana says, watching the pair fly off. "Will you be all right here?"
"Good. Let me know if you need anything else." Zariana walks away, in the direction that Dernis and Aretgarlja flew.
"Thanks!"
"It's my pleasure!" Zariana shouts back, now passing out of earshot. She walks a little farther and then stops. Above her head, Aretgarlja begins performing a series of aerobatic maneuvers.

Azril watches Aretgarlja with awe. Robin yawns.
The sun is nearly directly overhead now. Azril realizes the morning has all but passed already.
