Thirty-eight years ago, Hithrol Jiwovz and his dragon companion Olifin founded the Dragon Riders in this very location. Though that group has seen many changes over the years, from its members, to its geographical layout and overall organization, to its very name, its core mission remains the same: to bring together a group of talented people and their fantastic companions and utilize their abilities to make a difference in the world. You now have the opportunity to carry on this legacy as one of the newest recruits to the Riders. This RP will follow you on your first mission, and, if it remains active enough, possibly future missions as well.
This RP is based on the world I created for my stories, “Half-Breed” and “Dreamspinner”. If you have not read those stories, that is not a problem, but events in this RP may sometimes refer to events in those stories, since it takes place thirty years after the end of Dreamspinner in roughly the same location. If you have any questions, feel free to ask me.
Here is a map of the world this RP takes place in:
This is a GM-style RP. I will be narrating the story and the results of your actions and will be controlling all NPCs unless otherwise specified. This means that what I say goes. Though this RP will not have statistics and abilities (like my previous GM-style RP project), I will be determining the success of your actions based on my knowledge of your characters’ talents, strengths, and weaknesses.
Follow the Roleplay Guidelines, as specified for all LMBE RPs. Since this is not a traditional, multi-topic Forum RP, we will not necessarily be observing all of those particularly strictly, but all still apply to a certain extent.
Post actions once or twice a week. I am busy at times and will be much more so when the school year begins. I know many (if not all) of you are also busy. Therefore, I ask that you try to post once or twice a week so that we can keep this RP moving at a steady pace (and remind me to do the same). This also means that you should not post much more than this, because other RPers and I will get behind. Finally, do your best to give notice of anticipated absences so that we can take appropriate action.
Don’t spam. This means two things. First, avoid conversations that are not directly related to the RP. If you find yourself beginning to form such a quote chain, please move it to another topic. Second, make thought-out and descriptive posts. When making an action, try to give more than a few words. If desired, add some options for how your character would respond to the possible successes or failures of their actions. This would help me to keep the RP moving more quickly. I also need to follow this rule, so tell me if you think the quality of my posts could be improved.

Character Creation
Each player will have both a Rider character and a Companion character. Some Companions will be sapient, while others will not. Do not neglect your Companion, especially if they are sapient. Make sure to give them actions and involve them in the story. Below are some profile formats. Try to include all these items, with as much or as little detail as desired (just a sentence or a few words is acceptable, and so is three paragraphs). You may add more items if necessary.
Companion Name: Species**: Gender: Age: Physical Description: Personality (especially if sapient): Abilities (if notable): Backstory† (if different from Rider’s):
*Information about different species in this world is available here (in three parts). Acceptable Rider species: Human, Elf, Dwarf, Orc, Goblin, Mermian, Lizardfolk, Lupine, Falkrion, Vampyre
**Companion species may include, but are not limited to, the species that have been Companions to Riders in the past. Information about all Draconic species is available here (it's in six parts across two pages). The previously used Companion species are: Mountain Dragon (sapient), Desert Dragon (sapient), Forest Dragon (sapient), Frost Dragon (sapient), Sea Serpent (sapient), Drake (sapient), Griffin, Pegasus, Direwolf, Eurausin, Horse. Again, you are not limited to this list.
†You may reference characters, groups, and locations from “Half-Breed” and “Dreamspinner” in your backstory if you wish. However, all such references are subject to my approval. There is a lot of canon that you simply don’t know about, so I have to make sure everything stays consistent.

Rider: Name: Basa Mortuka Species: Mostly human but a tiny bit of orc blood, only affecting his eyes and strength Gender: Male Age: 24
Physical Description: Young, spry, bearded. Well built. Wears sandy colours. Has dark brown hair and yellow eyes. Very strong, but short. Generally wears something over his face.
Personality: He likes to be alone and isn't usually very social. Short tempered. Kind generally only to his dragon. Indifferent to most people and very defensive.
Equipment/Weapons: Wears light desert gear with a sandy green coloured face mask as well as a hood. Sometimes changes outfits to blend in. He keeps a small sword at his left and a quiver of arrows and a bow on his back. Into battle, he would carry a shield and a chain mail shirt, metal face mask, with leather armor covering other venerable spots. Along with that, he keep a canteen of water and some hardtack like bread with a pemmican like fatty snack. Abilities: Skilled soldier, especially experienced when fighting dragons. Expert marksman. Generally works by stealth first, resorting to full out combat at the last resort. Very agile but to to fast of a runner, more of a long distance traveler. Not good at public relations.
Continued on next post as I seem to have exceeded the max characters.

Backstory: A former tribe of desert people once lived in caves in the desert rocks. They were a stealthy people, well versed in the art of survival. These caves were too small for the desert dragons or the Heren as they called them. They constantly battled the dragons of one region. The dragons eventually killed most of the people But Basa, a boy of 14 at the time went to do battle with the Queen of Heren. They defeated her, but at the expense of his father's life. Basa hid while the remaining dragons, in their rage, destroyed their burrowed homes, smashing most of the tribe. Basa took a prize with him from the defeat. A young dragon left behind and unattended because of the dragons' rage. He first intended to keep it as a slave, but the beast grew on him, so he led it to the spot where the desert ends and the grasslands start, to raise him there. He creatively named him Heren. He eventually taught him to fly with him on his back. He joined the riders when he ran into (almost literally) another dragon rider in the sky. Although Basa spoke little of the common language, he followed the rider to Paladeen.
Companion:
Name: Heren
Species: Desert Dragon Gender: Male Age: 13 Description: Small for a dragon. Sand coloured, fairly thin, small wings, green eyes and a short snout. Personality: Very quiet, caring and freindly but not outgoing. Likes to follow, not lead, but is incredibly loyal. Likes the heat. Abilities: No breath weapon but has dragon claws and teeth. Can camouflage, especially when in the desert, as leafy green is a difficult colour for him to imitate. Very agile dragon, because of his size, but not as fast in a race. Not to strong by dragon standards. Backstory: Pretty much the same as Basa's
If there's anything else you need, just ask.

That all looks great. I don't need anything more, but I do want to add that the Rider he met is an orc named Rhyg. He is from the desert as well and rides a gray Desert Dragon named Talon. They've been with the Riders for nine years now, so are among the more experienced of the currently active Riders.
Technically, species can't really get any more mixed than half-breeds because of hybrid genetics, but it's not a big deal.
I'm planning on getting the RP started at the beginning of July, when I return from vacation, so you can just hang around until then, ask any questions you need to ask.

Then I'll keep it as a man with orc-ish qualities with no orc actually in him. The qualities come from his remote bloodline of desert dwellers.
How sapient are the dragons? Are they the same level as humans?

That sounds good.
True dragons (which include desert dragons) have comparable intelligence to humans.

Rider
Name: Gildor (Giddy) Fangborn Species: Lizardfolk Gender: Male Age: 37 Physical Description: One the smaller side of his species, about average height for a human. Incredibly skinny, weak muscles. Bright, alert eyes. Reptilian head and scaled body. Wears loose clothing, wound about his body. Missing a few teeth. Personality: A lighthearted fellow, especially social and friendly. He tries to be friends with everybody. Equipment/Weapons: Never had the strength required for a blade, instead he sticks to throwing things, from knives to sharpened boomerangs to star-like weapons. He keeps many of them tucked into his loose clothing, it's hard to guess how many weapons he has on hand at any given moment. Abilities: Keen eyes, spots much. Really good at targeting and aiming his weapons, but lacks the distance to be a truly impressive foe. Backstory: Got separated from his people during a long journey, wandered around the countryside for a while before finding an equally lost dragon. He journeyed with him from then on out, pestering him to no end, but also being a good friend.
Companion
Name: Finn (dubbed so by Giddy, actual name unpronounceable to most) Species: Frost Dragon Gender: Male Age: 49 Physical Description: A pale shade of frosty blue, odd horns sticking out in uncomfortable places for his rider. Personality: Sullen, silent demeanor, behind which hides many dreams and aspirations. He's secretly fond of Giddy at this point, but puts on a front of indifference. Abilities: Just normal ice breath. Also can change the temperature of his skin at will, uses this only to torment his rider. Backstory: He set out seeking the dragon riders a few years back, and ended up wandering the woods. He stumbled upon Giddy, and the fellow took to following him. Finn tolerated him, and together they found the Dragon Riders. They instantly assumed that Giddy was his rider, much to his dismay, but he didn't correct them, and the chatty fellow grew on him as they worked together. Still an odd pair, though.
Let me know if any of this doesn't work, and especially check my ages. I'm not sure how either of these species ages.

All that is fine (and good). Lizardfolk age about the same as humans or orcs. Dragons mature more quickly than humans, but after they are fully matured age very slowly. There is a forest bordering the desert to the northeast, so that's probably where they met. A character named Gildor does exist already, a dwarven messenger who relayed information between Queen Virida and King Dwiarnemfafn during the Falkrion War, but that is not a problem.
