I posted this theory about how Snoke is really Darth Maul on the MBs a while back, but there is even more evidence to support it now, so I'll be adding that at the end.
Okay, so before we get into the theory, I'm going to recap everything that we know FOR SURE about Superme Leader Snoke (most of which we know thanks to the novelization of The Force Awakens):
- Snoke is an alien - Snoke witnessed the rise an fall of the Empire - Snoke had at least one apprentice before Kyle Ren
Now, for who I think Snoke is...
Darth Maul
Okay, Darth maul is an alien, just like Snoke. Maul witnessed the rise and (while we have to wait until Rebels is over to be sure) probably the fall of the Empire. Snoke 's first apprentice could quite very well be Ezra, and since I feel like Ezra would have been involved in the events that take place in Rogue One, he probably turns to the Dark Side before A New Hope.
Why else would Lucasfilm decide to continue Maul's story through Rebels? Plus, if Rey is a Kenobi, Thisbe would be amazing storytelling. Rey, eventually having to defeat her grandfather's old enemy.
Obviously, Snoke looks very differently from Maul, but if Maul gets major injuries in Rebels, if his tattoos fade and his horns are, say, burnt off, he could look quite like Snoke.
And don't say Disney afraid to bring stories from the TV shows into the movies, as Saw Gerrera appears in Rogue One (which isn't a spoiler because he is in the trailers).
If you think about it, Rebels could very well have been created to tie into the movies, first by showing how the rebellion got to the point it is at in Rogue One, and to show how Maul became Snoke. And don't forget, J.J. Abrams said that's Snoke isn't really a Sith, and we saw Maul pretty much revoke the Sith in The Clone Wars and Rebels.
And before you say that's Darth Maul would be too old, Sith can live longer with their Dark Side powers, like Sidious did.
New evidence: Episide VIII's title card is red. The only time the Star Wars logo has been red before was in some Maul episodes of The Clone Wars. Also, in the trailer for Rebels season 3, we see that Maul will duel Obi-Wan, the possible cause of the major injuries we see on him as Snoke. Thirdly, a Darth Maul comic series for Marvel has been announced, proving that Lucasfilm wants to flesh out his backstory even more.
So, what's everyone think. If you have any evidence to disprove it, I do want to hear it!
I strongly disagree with this theory cos to use Maul yet again and keep him alive would be ridiculous and officially overkill if you pardon the pun cos hes already dead. I think Snoke i s either s a new character like an ancient alien from the unknown regions, and advisor of the emperor/secret contigency apprentice, Ransolm Casterfo(because he was a friend of Leia & Snokes offically anounced to be once friends with her) or the new cannon version of Darth Plaguise.
how dare you spoil bloodline! I'm not done reading it yet.
I can't believe I had the same awful signature for nearly 8 years. Sorry for disappearing for 2 months, life happened for a bit.
I watched a Mace is Snoke theory. It seemed very far fetched to me. One bit of evidence they gave was the purple light saber being between "red" and "blue", "Light" and "Dark". Apparently Mace's purple light saber was a representation of him balancing the Force. I was under the impression that it was common knowledge that Samuel L Jackson asked for a purple light saber just to be different. I don't believe Mace could even be seen as balancing the Force. The Clone Wars shows us that balancing the Force isn't about oneself. It's about balancing the Son and the Daughter, something Anakin didn't do. Just to be a pain, who's to say Snoke isn't the Son? <- I have no way of backing that up, but lets start another theory.
best snoke theory so far. they both have white skin, and if the son was injured, he would look just like snoke. he witnessed the rise and fall of the empire,, and is not technically a sith.
Welcome to the Snoke is the Son bandwagon. Wouldn't be a bad idea, especially considering Clone Wars is canon and lots of adults and superfans loved the show. So much grittier than Rebels.
I was watching a video where one of the producers for a older SW game let slip about Jar-Jar's "Sith Lord" origins. He quickly "corrected" himself while rejecting any "theories". Personally, I think you're on to something.
It's almost common knowledge that Jar-Jar wasn't initially supposed to be... Well... "How do you put this?" Incredibly annoying with no comedic value.
Have you seen the Rogue binks and the binks awakens trailers. If not you should their absolulty hilarious. The theory of Jar Jar being snoke and a secret apprentice of Palpatine would have been fantastic and made allot of logical sense that I really wanted it to happen. It would have been the greatest saga story twist in cinema history. The evil genius who pretends to be the clumsy fool whilst working as Palpatines apprentice.
I haven't. I'll be looking it up when I have enough time to watch them.
Maybe the reason Jar Jar jumps so high is because he mastered the force jump. Oh my word. It's official.
Lots of writers make up things as they go. For instance, JKR only decided on removing (to put it a nice way) characters while she was writing. She had a cemented plot, but not the finer details. Just saying that I would not be surprised if Rey's parents are/were undecided. Have they started filming Episode VIII yet?
I do exactly that when writing stories but I think reys parentage would be set in stone by now becase they dot want to randomly pick someone last minute. Also Reys parents could be someone completely new that we havent heard of or she could be a child of the force itself without a mother or father. Though I hope its those that we already know and my hopes are Han/Leia.
I've been very slowly piecing together a story over the past 3 years. It's astonishing how many times I changed my mind about who lives and who doesn't. I'm sure they've finally decided, but nothing was stopping them from waiting up until the filming Episode VII. After all, Lucas wrote a lot of lines just weeks before filming. Though I guess that's why they are so poor. IMO.
Not sure if this is real or not, but apparently Abrams was quoted as saying "Rey’s parents are not in Episode VII. So I can’t possibly in this moment tell you who they are. This is all I will say: It’s something that Rey thinks about too." He then retracted saying “What I meant was that she doesn’t discover them in Episode VII. Not that they may not already be in her world.”
I guess four things come from this. 1. He was telling the truth the first time and Rey's parents are not in Episode VII. 2. He somehow did not comprehend how his first quote would be interpreted and Rey's parents were in Episode VII but Rey didn't know. <- It's obvious she doesn't know. 3. They're just making things up as they go, therefore they have/had not decided on her heritage. 4. Abrams is talking rubbish to cause even more speculation. <- Good advertising.
The first point seems unlikely as linear SW films are about the Skywalkers not any other family. While the second point is ridiculous. There is no way he could accidentally say that her parents were not in Episode VII as a happy mistake. Rey's parents not in Episode VII is very different from Rey not knowing her parents. Besides, we already know that Rey has little idea of her heritage. This second point goes with the forth. It seems he's talking rubbish as advertisement for future SW films. The third point seems unlikely, but I would not be surprised if it were true. Personally, I think the forth point is true.
What do you all think?
Abrams is known apparently to outright lie to people to protect film secrets which is what Id do if I was protecting something Im so passionate about and have put allot of work into. I hate major spoilers being leaked so Im glad they keep them underwraps. Its also good advertising and builds up hype to have that sense of shocking mystery which is what made SW initially such a success.
That's kinda wrong. I get that you want to protect the story, but gee. Find a politician, they'll teach you how to answer a question without answering a question.

Here is one theory- The Galactic Civil War is a reference to the American Revolution/Revolutionary War because-
Untrained volunteers (american colonists/Rebel Alliance) go up against an army that seems unbeatable and ran by a tyrant.(Great Britain/the Empire) and the untrained volunteers are called rebels.

There's also the fact that Lucas had British accents used for the Empire.
{JAMMERS! -Those who wish to continue.- ONLY!} So in the Story, "Darth Plagueis the Wise" Palpatine says, "It's Ironic. He could save others from death, but not himself."
In the Bible, it says, "In the same way, the chief priests and the teachers of then law made fun of Him among themselves. "He saved others," they said. "But He can't save Himself!" " ~ Mark 15:31 (NIRV)
How do you mean? Like reincarnation? Maybe Kanan turned Bendu evil. I don't know.
something like that... Bendu seemed a bit scary in it... i don't think he was good to begin with...
The bendu was in the balance of the force. In the grey. That could mean that it isn't a species(exactly)and is a order. However one could've gone rouge, and thus we have snoke. Perhaps he was in Rouge One due to him going dark.
Or he could be part of the "whills".
Fun fact, the bendu was what George Lucas originally planned to call what is now the Jedi Knight. So it would be the Jedi Bendu.

That is very similar, and I doubt a coincidence.
I don't read that version so I can't agree exactly however it does make you wonder.

It wouldn't be the first time a character from a animated series is brought into a movie.
General grevious was from the ORIGINAL clone wars series, and saw gerara was in both the clone wars(new)and rebels.
I LOVED the show. Though I am glad that rex survived, and Ahsoka is alive too(she survived vader I am pretty sure) the animation style for rebels makes me puke the clone wars animation was SOOOO much better.

Or the inquisitor could have survived, and it is him. He also has(a striking resemblance to the Son)white skin, and if he survived he would've seen the rise and fall of the empire. And would've seen darth Vader, which may be a reason Kylo Ren follows him. To learn about him.(The imperial inquisitors were not Sith, simply trained darksiders.
