My first Star Wars story on the LMBs, The Dark Side Calls, was the first of three installments in the Shapeshifter Trilogy, which introduced the MBs to Jas Caranie, a character I created (and occasionally used as an alias) Unfortunately, while I was writing my second installment, A Different Path, LEGO announced that the message boards were closing. I worked quickly, trying to save my stories, and discovered the old chapters I had written. I noticed how much my writing had improved since then, and so I began to rewrite my old chapters into something new. Now I would like to share those chapters with you.
So, without further ado, I present....
The Dark Side Calls May the Force be with you!

Here's the first chapter!!! I'll try and post a chapter every day if I can.
Prologue
Something was wrong. Somewhere in the galaxy, something was terribly, horribly wrong, and Lyria Daiah could feel it. For hours she had meditated, letting herself merge with the Force, allowing her mind to clear, trying in vain to see what couldn’t be seen. But Lyria could not find the source of the disturbance, although she could feel a dark presence in the Force, evil, cold, and just out of reach. Lyria knew she had to find out what had happened, and yet some part of her was afraid to find out what terrible event had taken place. So, with the sole intent of finding information, Lyria had traveled to the shadiest, poorest district of the city planet Coruscant, hoping to find some answers…

Here's the next part! I've decided to begin adding the locations and dates of each chapter for clarity. If you have any questions relating to this story, please ask away!
Prologue part 2 Coruscant, 1 ABY
Half an hour. That was the amount of time Lyria had spent in the smoky, rose-tinted haze of one of Coruscant’s many cantinas, and in Lyria’s opinion, that half hour had been wasted. After all, thought Lyria ruefully, there are better ways to find information. But she was here anyway, so what was the point of leaving now?
The minutes passed and changed to hours, and the mood in the establishment grew steadily rowdier. Lyria was just about to head for the door when she heard a gruff male voice say, in a clearly exasperated tone, “Yeah, there was a crash on Mandalore. Some couple went joyriding and smashed into a building. Their speeder exploded and the building is damaged. And it’s a good thing that those nerf herders were the only ones to be smashed, because that building was full of people. Isn’t it funny how silly people can be when they aren’t thinking clearly?”
The man laughed and drained his glass. Tossing a coin to the bartender, he stood and began to walk away. Lyria caught him by the collar of his shirt, which was filthy and coated with grime. “Hey!” shouted the man, trying to get away. “Whaddya want, lady? I didn’t do nothin'!” Lyria forced the man into a chair and pushed a drink into his hand.

I've been putting this off for so long... Anyway, here's another chapter. Enjoy!
Prologue part 3 Coruscant, 1 ABY
“Tell me what happened on Mandalore,” Lyria growled fiercely, “Tell me everything!” The ruffian simply shrugged. “Information ain’t free here.” He swigged his drink and smiled slyly. “What are you willing to pay?” Lyria drew her hand into the pocket of her robes and retrieved a handful of Republic credits. “You can have these,” Lyria said. “But first, you tell me what I need to know.” The man gave Lyria a look of deepest loathing, and then began to speak. “You drive a hard bargain, you know that, and I do need to go home, so I’ll tell you. But if you’re lying, you’re done.” I’m more worried about you lying, thought Lyria, suppressing the desire to laugh. “Just tell me. I don’t want to waste your time.” Or mine. The man nodded. “My cousin works on Mandalore. He was on break when the accident happened. He saw it with his own eyes. Out of nowhere, this speeder zooms right by him and crashes into the building. All the windows were broken, but the building’s pretty stable. No one was hurt except for the two that were piloting the speeder. They were both smashed, but they deserved it. That much I know. Can I go now?” He stood up and turned toward the door. Lyria grabbed his arm and forced him back into his chair. “We’re not done yet,” said Lyria. The man groaned, annoyed, but Lyria only handed him another drink and asked, “The two who crashed the speeder? What were their names?” “They had funny names, they weren’t from Mandalore; they were foreign, you see. The authorities identified them right away. Stuck out like sore thumbs, those two did. Hmm…I remember the names, well, how could I forget?” He laughed sarcastically. “Their names were Arlin and Oran Caranie.” He stood and held out his dirty hand. “You promised.” “Is it true?” Lyria asked, for she couldn’t tell; the Force failed to give Lyria the information she required. “Yeah, it’s true. Imperials won’t stop talking about it. Just pay me already and let me leave.” Lyria paid him, as she had promised, and watched as the man left. When she was sure he was gone, she got up and left the cantina, walking into a nearby alley, which was crowded and buzzing with activity. “I didn’t even get to say goodbye,” Lyria said aloud, a tear rolling down her cheek.

Here's the next part!!! Hopefully I'll get to the main story soon; this is just the prologue. (I'm splitting it into parts so it won't be too long)
Prologue part 4 Coruscant, 1 ABY
Lyria didn’t want to be the bearer of bad news, but as she was the only one to know about the smashing of Arlin and Oran Caranie, Lyria knew she had to tell her colleagues what had transpired on Mandalore, mere hours earlier.
With a heavy heart, she strode down the ramp of her ship and entered a gleaming white apartment building. She took the stairs rather than the elevator, and as she walked, she thought about what she might say. Lyria was disappointed to find that she’d reached her destination rather quickly. She inwardly berated herself for walking too fast and not preparing some kind of speech. But she was there, with her hand placed on the closed door, afraid, perhaps, to face the people who were behind it. With a sigh, Lyria waved her hand over the panel that controlled the door. It opened and Lyria came in, collapsing onto a cushion that lay upon the floor. “I have bad news,” she panted, removing her faded brown cloak and tossing it aside. “Arlin and Oran Caranie…they’re gone.” It took a few minutes for her words to sink in. Finally, Ian Enning said, “This is a joke, right? Lyria, please tell me this is a joke.” Lyria shook her head mournfully. “Does it look like I’m joking?” Ian crossed the room and turned to a small group of Padawans who had been sparring in the corner. “Do you mind leaving for a little while?” “Not at all, Master Enning,” chorused the children. After the Padawans had left, Ian turned to Lyria. “It’s hard to believe that they’re gone,” he said in a choked voice. “Arlin was the one who brought us together. It was the Caranies who suggested we continue training our apprentices.” “This is a devastating blow to those of us who want to rebuild the Jedi Order,” said Kavilo Mahi, a Rodian with bumpy green skin and suction-cup tipped fingers. “Agreed. This will certainly make it harder to train our apprentices.” replied Trevadon Hutchow, whom Lyria knew to be Arlin’s Master. Io Tala, rising from her chair, shouted accusingly: “I just knew this would happen. Arlin’s abilities made her careless about safety, and now she’s been smashed.” Aven Juli stood up from his own chair, his green eyes flashing. “We are trapped! If the Empire found the Caranies, they can surely find us! Where would we move next? The Empire has taken over everything!” Preis Miath ignited her blue lightsaber and swung it. The weapon sliced through the curtains, which fell to the floor. “Move? No! We stay. We stay and fight! What good is cowardice?” Preis’s Master, Dess Corr, smiled serenely and moved himself away from Preis’s swinging blade, his hoverchair emitting a faint but audible hum. “I think,” he shouted over the din, “that this conversation is meaningless, and our fear and anger will only drive us closer to the dark side.” Preis blushed and put her weapon down. Aven stared at the ground, and Io sullenly turned away. “Calm yourselves,” Dess continued. “ Lyria, I must speak to you in private. The rest of you may leave. We have much to discuss.”
