*cough*
I'm kind of hoping to have a new chapter out this Friday. <.<
This isn't dead yet, promise...it has been plagued with writer's block as of late, but there are grand, magical Disney plans for the far-flung future chapters... ' v '
In order to get there, we must press on from where we are, which should hopefully give me the determination to keep writing... >.>

Chapter 4
The Rose Kingdom was only a short ride away from Arendelle, a pleasant surprise which was clarified after checking their placement on the map. Carmen froze on the platform of the station to wait for the others. She gazed at the flag over the door, fingering the enchanted rose charm on her necklace -- a near replica of the flag's emblem, save for its stained-glass appearance. “Excited?” Hannah asked, appearing beside her with a grin. Carmen returned her smile. “Definitely.” She gazed at the flag for a moment before glancing down with a disappointed look. “I wish I would've brought my phone. These pictures would make for the greatest blogs ever.” Hannah laughed. “Agh, I know. I always have mine with me, but today of all days, I don't.” Alexa bounced over to join them. “What are you guys standing around for?” “Just waiting for you slowpokes to get off the train,” Hannah replied with a smirk. At this, Carmen turned around to search for the others, her hand already on the ornate wooden door. “Gwen, Sage, c'mon! Hurry up!” “All right, okay, we're here!” The two girls were laughing. “Ready?” Carmen received four affirmative and slightly restless nods. Casting a last, nervous glance at the flag, she pushed open the heavy door and stepped through. They emerged on the platform at the edge of a noisy, bustling village. Alleyways ran through like a maze; small, quaint shops with colorful roofs lined the streets. They passed a barbershop, cafe, tool shop, and cobbler, as well as stalls on the sidewalk which sold various items. “Boulangerie. Al Petit Chapleau. Plantes & Fleurs.” Carmen read names off the shops’ signs as they made their way through the crowd. “DeLacroise; La Puissance; La Jamon…anyone here speak French?" “Apparently we should have learned it for the trip,” Alexa observed.
What happens when you combine writer's block with ongoing stress and more writer's block? No chapters for 3 1/2 months. XD I'm terribly sorry. U.U Here's hoping it doesn't happen again but it probably will. Anyway, my song suggestion for this time is Neverland Orchestra's "Be Our Guest." Hope you enjoy. ^ v ^

Chapter 4 ~ p2
At last they reached the center of the village, recognizable by the large fountain which several people were milling around. Many, distinguishable as citizens of the town, were using buckets to gather water, while others were clearly tourists who had no interest in doing so. There was no sign of an exit to the seemingly endless town, much less a glimpse of the castle they were searching for. The girls sat down on the edge of the well to try to figure out their directions. “Look! I see the bookstore over there,” said Hannah, pointing. “We're not totally lost.” “And there's the tavern,” Alexa added with a nod. “At least we're in the right kingdom -- but we should maybe still ask for directions.” Only half-listening to the conversation, Carmen scanned the table of a nearby market stand, taking notice of how many rose-themed souvenirs the vendor was selling. Rose knickknacks beneath sparkly domes were the highlight of the table, replicas of the real enchanted rose that the kingdom held with such pride. They were displayed in many colors, though most were red. While the others discussed their route and tried to make a plan, Carmen stood and went over to the booth. The woman behind the table was only a few years older than Carmen; she wore the typical dress of a middle-class French citizen, her strawberry blonde curls swept into a bun. “Hello. Excusez-moi?” Carmen tried, unsure what official language the kingdom spoke. The woman glanced up from rearranging the roses on her table. “Bonjour, mademoiselle! What can I do for you?” Her accent was thick, but Carmen was relieved to hear that she spoke English. “Do you know how to get to the castle? Is it far from here?” “Le château? Certainly. Right down the street, out of the village you see a path through 'ze woods. The king's castle sits at the end of 'ze path.” She pointed to where a large turret poked through the treetops in the distance. Carmen brightened. “I can see it. Thank you!” “You’re welcome, miss,” the merchant chirped. “Au revoir!”

Chapter 4 ~ p3
Returning with her new instructions, Carmen led her friends out of town and followed a scattered crowd up the sloping path to the castle. It was lined on both sides by a thick forest of evergreens which threatened to obscure the road, but were held back by a tall fence. Upon reaching the end of the path, they were greeted by huge iron gates, which would have been terribly intimidating had they not been opened wide to visitors. And behind it, looming many times higher than the gates, was the familiar white shape of the Beast's castle. An amazed smile came to Carmen’s face. The group crossed the long bridge to the castle, coming to a halt at the tall wooden doors. Carmen's heart began to race. “Do we just go in?” she asked nervously. “Knock first,” Hannah advised. “The Beast doesn't seem to like unexpected visitors.” Carmen rolled her eyes and reached for one of the heavy knockers, rapping it loudly against the door. The door swung open almost immediately, startling them all. Carmen edged toward the threshold, still uncertain about entering, until a head popped around the corner. It was followed by the tall, skinny form of a courtier in a golden jacket. “Bonjour, mademoiselles! Welcome to 'ze Rose Kingdom! Come right in!” “Lumière.” Carmen couldn't suppress her grin as they stepped inside. “Oui, that is correct.” He returned a dashing smile. “How may I help you ladies today?” “We came to see the king and queen. Please,” Carmen added, her hands twisting hopefully behind her back. “Why, certainement!” He turned back with an inquiring look. “Are you here on business, or…?” “Um...no. Just visiting,” she said timidly, hoping it wouldn't discourage him from letting them through. “We don't live here.” “Ah. Well, in that case, I should really turn you away for the time being for a lack of urgency -- but I won't.” Lumière gave another mischievous smile and waved for them all to follow him. “Right this way!”

Chapter 4 ~ p4
They were led up the massive staircase and through the magnificent halls, making their way past visitors and a large number of servants and staff whom Lumière greeted jovially. The castle was ever bit as impressive as they had imagined; sweeping staircases and enormous statues were a common sight in every hallway. Ornate tapestries and thick portrait frames lined the walls, the floor spread with plush red carpet. Large chandeliers hung through every hallway. Lumière took the girls down another corridor and stopped outside a pair of cream-colored doors at the end. “There doesn’t appear to be a line of guests waiting, so it seems you have come at the right time!” he joked. Carmen trailed behind slightly, gazing around with a sense of familiarity creeping into her. She couldn't think straight enough to place it, but she was sure she had seen this hall before. The West Wing? No, it can’t be. “So, is this the…?” Lumière glanced over his shoulder at her as he reached for the handle. “Oh yes, bien sûr, forgive me," he laughed. "This is the royal library!” A squeak came from someone behind him. With a creak, the doors swung open, and a gasp rippled over the group as Lumière led them into the library. Bookcases stretched from the floor to the ceiling on every wall, filled with the colorful spines of thousands of books. Staircases spiraled throughout the room to balconies high above them; statues of fairies held many of the banisters, while a pair of marble lions watched them from above. Desks and tables, dotted with books, were scattered on the sides of the room. Green curtains were drawn back from the windows to let in plenty of sunlight. In the middle of the far wall were a couch, coffee table, and armchair seated in front of an ornate fireplace -- it, as well, was flanked on all sides by endless shelves of books. There was a minute of breathless silence as the girls took in the massive room before them. Lumière noticed their shock and gave a sideways grin. “Heh, impressive, is it not?” Carmen could only nod, a huge smile on her face. “Y-yeah.”

Chapter 4 ~ p5
Lumière strode to the middle of the colorful ceramic floor and gazed around. The library appeared to be empty, but with so many balconies and ladders, it was hard to say for sure. “I know the king and queen have been here nearly all morning, but I'm not sure whether..." He peered around the room. "Your Highness, are you here?” he called, his voice resonating off the ceiling. A slight commotion came from the balcony to the right as a flash of blue slipped toward the banister. “Oh, yes, I’m up here! Do we have guests?” The question proved to be rhetorical, for no sooner had the familiar voice spoken than came the sound of footsteps descending the stairs. Lumière took a few paces back, giving the girls a jaunty nod as they waited. Hannah gave Carmen a gentle push forward to the front of the group, the latter tugging nervously on the tip of her braid. Releasing her skirt as she stepped off the staircase, Belle approached the group with a smile. “Please, excuse me. I didn't hear you come in!” Carmen curtsied politely, to which Belle dipped slightly in return. “It's no problem,” Carmen said lightly, inwardly wincing at how squeaky her voice came out. She couldn't help but stare at the queen for a moment, slowly processing the fact that the real-life beauty was standing before her. Belle wore a navy blue dress with white cuff sleeves, a white apron tied haphazardly around her waist. Her tawny hair slipped slightly over one shoulder in a messy ponytail; she absentmindedly brushed at the wisps that tried to drift into her face. Her honey brown eyes held intelligence and spirit, studying each one of the girls with a kind expression. “Well then, welcome to the Rose Kingdom, all of you,” Belle greeted them. “What is your name?” It took a moment of surprised hesitance for Carmen to realize she was looking directly at her. “Oh-- I'm Carmen. And this is Alexa, Hannah, Sage, and my sister, Gwen.”

Chapter 4 ~ p6
“It’s a pleasure to meet you." Belle took in each of the names with an attentive nod, seeming to commit them all to memory before she turned to gesture toward the fireplace. "Please, won't you come in?” They drifted into the room with her as Lumière followed behind. “And I will see if Mrs. Potts has any tea ready to serve,” Lumière suggested with a grin. “She'll be delighted. Excuse me.” With a quick bow, he turned and strode out of the library, though he didn't get far beyond the door before the sound of a collision came from the hallway, followed by a round of laughter. “Oh! Master, forgive me, I was not looking where I was going!” “No, it's quite all right, Lumière,” came the response. You weren't looking, and I can't see where I'm going…” A moment later, a figure in a blue waistcoat staggered through the doorway, in his arms a tower of books that obscured his face. Upon reaching the first desk he came to, he relented and let the pile spill out of his arms with a grunt before beginning to stack them back up. “Belle, I've no objection to your obsession here, but you really are going to lose track if you keep leaving them scattered all over the--” At that moment, he glanced up and noticed the five others standing in a semicircle around the fireplace. “O-oh, terribly sorry. I didn't realize we had guests.” He chuckled a bit sheepishly as he crossed the room. Carmen's heart quickened with excitement once again. She'd been sure from the first sound of his voice who it was -- the Beast, of course, but… She began recalling every memory of the movie she had, her mind reeling. Did it ever tell his name?? Luckily, she was rescued a second later. “Adam, I'd like you to meet Carmen, Gwen, Hannah, Alexa, and Sage,” Belle introduced them all, leaving everyone mildly surprised at her accuracy. Carmen attempted another curtsy, a relieved smile spreading across her face. “Adam,” she greeted, trying the name on her tongue. Meh, better than 'The Beast,' for sure. “Pleased to meet you.”

Chapter 4 ~ p7
Adam gave a cordial bow in return. “Likewise, Miss Carmen.” He gestured to the sofa. “Please, sit down. Don't mind the clutter.” A shared laugh came from the group as Belle shot him a look of mock annoyance. The girls all sank into the deep sofa together, while Belle took a seat in the armchair. “Is this your first visit to the kingdom?” Adam asked, retrieving a chair from a nearby desk. Carmen nodded cheerfully. "I was the one who begged to come here, actually." "Oh, really?" He appeared pleasantly surprised. "Why is that, if I might ask?" "Well, you know…" she paused, sorting out her answer, and smiled, "this has always been my favorite story. And I knew the kingdom must be even more stunning in real life." "That's so sweet!" Belle gave her a gentle smile before gazing at the massive expanse of the library. "I hope you haven't been disappointed yet?" Carmen couldn't help but laugh in amazement. "No, not at all! I never imagined everything could be so beautiful, and so...big." She craned her neck toward the highest bookshelves in awe. Just then, the doors of the library opened again and a woman adorned with frills burst through, pushing a small cart in front of her which rattled with dishes. "Good afternoon, my dears! Lumière called me to deliver you all a much-needed cup of tea." Coming to a halt in front of the makeshift tea party, she gave them a cheerful wink. "Or so I've been told, anyway." She set right to work with the teapot and greeted each one of the girls as she moved briskly around the circle. "How are you dears doing today?" "Just fine," Carmen replied, beaming as she accepted a teacup adorned with red roses, "thank you, Mrs. Potts." "Or, 'amazing' might actually be a better choice of words," Alexa added from the other end of the couch. "Just to put it out there." "I second that," Sage agreed, effecting a laugh from the group. "Amazing? My goodness, well, that's a hefty title. Are you sure our kingdom is lovely enough to have earned the name?" Mrs. Potts asked teasingly, fetching a tray of cinnamon croissants from the cart.

Chapter 4 ~ p8
"Most definitely. We would've been blown away even if we weren't from the Otherworld," Carmen assured as she took one of the pastries. "Really?" Across the table, Belle and Adam had frozen in their chairs, exchanging a surprised look. Realizing the strange question he had left in the air, Adam gave a slight shake of his head and added, "It's not too often we have visitors from the Otherworld, I mean." Belle nodded in agreement, a twinkle of contemplation in her eyes. "Even less recently, it seems. Although we wouldn’t really know; we haven't had a Messenger visit the kingdom since our story was transferred to the other realm." "Messenger?" Hannah repeated. "Your story…" mused Sage. "Beauty and the Beast. Of course," Gwen said, her words dawning with realization. "Someone from our realm came into the Disney realm...and wrote down your story to take back with them." "That's right.” Belle smiled, giving a light shrug. “It's all a part of Walt Disney's plan to share the history of our realm with his own." "Messengers make their rounds, listen to stories, and write it all down in a book to take with them," Adam explained. "And then, they ask a thousand questions and make sketches of everything -- from the landscapes, to the castles, to the people and animals they've met in any given place." He laughed. "I haven't seen what they come out with on the other side, but with the attention they pay to details, it must be incredible." Carmen gaped in disbelief. "It is,” she murmured, lost in thought. “And here I was wondering how everything looks exactly like we know it back home." "I have a question, though," Alexa spoke up, pushing her glasses up curiously. "Why sketch everything? Why not just take pictures of everything instead?" "It seems that photographs from this realm won't appear in yours. Some people have tried--" Belle recalled, "But they never end up with much to show for it. So, after a while, the Messengers decided that if they couldn't capture what they saw directly, at least they could put it down on paper."

Chapter 4 ~ p9
"Oui, although I do wonder how skilled of artists some of them are," Lumière piped in. He had been so quiet, everyone had nearly forgotten he was there. "They had better have done me justice; I know it must be hard to capture such a brilliant face in mere paper and pen." He flashed a pretentious smile toward the group, all of whom quickly fell into laughter. "Oh, I wouldn't worry too much about that," Mrs. Potts chuckled, a smirk playing on her lips. The distant chime of a clock somewhere within the castle caught her attention, and she quickly busied herself repacking the cart. "My goodness, is it that late already--? Look at me, chatterin' the day away. I'd better be getting back to work. It was lovely to meet you girls," she said earnestly, giving them a warm smile before turning to bid the king and queen goodbye. "I suppose that goes for me, too," Lumière agreed, glancing at his pocket watch. "Cogsworth will have a fit if he's been wondering where I am." Shaking his head, he gave a slight bow to the group before proceeding to trail after Mrs. Potts to the door. "Au revoir, all!" In the moment of silence that followed, four of the visitors exchanged anxious looks with one another, each wondering if the others were thinking the same thing they were. "Not to follow the crowd, but we should probably be heading out, too," Hannah spoke up, setting her teacup down and shifting forward from the overstuffed depths of the sofa. "We still have a lot of places to see today." "That's true," Carmen said quietly, playing with the tip of her braid as a half-hearted smile twitched on her lips. "Of course; we won't keep you. I'm sure you must have many kingdoms you want to visit," Adam said with a knowing smile. The two monarchs stood to escort them out, but it didn't take long for Gwen to notice the dejected look on her sister's face. As she was about to pull her aside, Belle added, "That is, unless any of you do want to stay a bit longer. The castle is always open to visitors who want to explore--” “We accept!” Carmen cried, startling the queen mid-sentence. Gwen let out a muffled snort of laughter.

Chapter 4 ~ p10
“I mean, uh -- I accept,” Carmen corrected, her face reddening slightly. “I know everyone else has places they want to see--” She glanced at the rest of her friends, who all nodded eagerly, “but, um, I’d love to stay and explore the castle! Sounds like a dream come true, actually.” Her smile was wider than it had been all morning. The monarchs shared a kind smile. Adam took a step forward, an amused cast flickering over his face. “Well, we’d never pass up an opportunity to make a dream come true, would we? I’m sure we could arrange a little tour of the kingdom for a certain fan...” Carmen’s eyes lit up. “Y-yes, that sounds-- awesome, I-- excuse me for just a second, would you?” Turning away before she lost her composure entirely, she gathered her friends in a circle. “Don’t apologize," Alexa said firmly, mock accusation in her voice. She laughed. “Because we know you’re going to.” Carmen sighed, unable to suppress a smile. “It’s just...I feel like we shouldn’t be abandoning each other, but…” “Abandoning each other? Carmen, we’re living our dreams here,” said Hannah, smiling broadly. “Castles, kingdoms... jungles,” she murmured quickly, clearing her throat, “we’d be crazy not to take advantage of all this!” “Exactly.” Sage shrugged. “We’ll pick you up tomorrow morning, or whatever. I know you’re going to have a great time!” Gwen wrapped her arms around her sister, giving her a tight hug goodbye. For some reason she couldn’t fully explain, she still felt hesitant to leave her here. The chances of anything even remotely bad happening in the Disney realm seemed close to impossible, but they were still in a new place, with no idea how they would get out or how much time had passed at home. They had to stay alert.

Chapter 4 ~ p11
“Be careful,” she whispered, giving her shoulders an encouraging squeeze. “And have fun!” Carmen smiled against Gwen’s shoulder. “You sound like Mom, you know?” Her voice was muffled until she pulled away, snickering softly. “But I will, don’t worry.” The group of friends departed down the long road of the castle, heading for the train station to continue their crusades across the realm. The number of seats they occupied was dwindling more and more with their travels. "Relax, Gwen," Hannah urged, turning around in her seat. "Carmen will be fine -- and so will Kelsea, for that matter. Nothing to worry about!" "She's right," Sage agreed, looking back as well. "I honestly can't imagine anyplace safer than where we are right now." "I know." Gwen cast a last glance out the window before they pulled away from the station. "I know, you're right. You're completely right." She let out a sigh. "I guess it's just that I'm still a little worried about how we're going to get home, you know?" Sage and Hannah exchanged a curious glance. "I haven't really thought about that." Hannah looked genuinely concerned for a brief moment, but the demeanor soon faded and was replaced with a nonchalant shrug. "We'll figure it out -- when we want to." "Maybe someone else would know more about it than we would," Sage suggested, and nodded reassuringly. "They're right, Gwen," said Alexa, casting a comforting smile. "For today, let's just enjoy all the places we're going, and we'll figure out how to get home tomorrow." Gwen mustered a smile and allowed herself to believe their words. Maybe she was worrying too much. Someone, even if someone they hadn't met yet, would know how to get them back home. And maybe time moved more slowly at home than it did here. It would work out somehow. They would all be reunited tomorrow. Tomorrow, she smirked, her caramel blonde hair falling into her face as she leaned her elbow against the window. Are any of us really going to be ready to leave by tomorrow?
