From what little I've heard from the internet and fellow Ninjago fans, this Ninjago "Dark Island Trilogy" is a three-part graphic novel series taking place sometime in the somewhat early timeline of the Ninjago TV show. I feel like I've heard it said that these books are actually canon to the timeline, though that could just be a rumor. . . Thus I'm curious. Tell me, fellow fans; what is this Dark Island series, and is it good enough for reading?

Man, I so want to read it too! Although actually, it takes place between Season 6 and season 7, or so I've heard.

There, see, that goes to show how little I know of it.
You do remember the review by sepublic22 from the old LMBs, right?
Uh, no.
Well, if his review is anything to go by, the Dark Island Trilogy does not live up to the hype. Way too much time is spent on the episode comics and journal entries, and such little important stuff happens in Part 1 that only the next two parts are worth buying at all. You said yourself that sepublic22 saved you from wasting your money and a disappointment. Do you remember now?

I've only read the first two books. They do in fact take place after DotD and before HoT, to which it alludes to those events with a bit of art (presumably refined concept.) As for reading only half the book is actual comic with the other being Wu's journal (notes and observations of people and places) and recaps of the previous seasons. The story itself is nice and simple for a bit of light reading but good nonetheless.
(I recommend it but I don't think it's worth the bother if you have better books to read. )

Mm, all right, then. --Well, now that you elaborate, yes, that does sound familiar. I'm afraid my memory needs more work than most people's.

Ahh, OK. . . so it's really like a professional fan-fiction, written for fun.
(Well, what with me having to read To Kill a Mockingbird again for my English class, it could be a welcome change of reading. )

Well, if only half of the books is actual story content instead of recaps of stuff you already know about, you should pass on it.

Or an average gap-filler.
(It's not as rich a story depth your used to, but yes it does sound more appealing than that. And Lloyd turns evil for a bit you might be interested to know. )

It's an ok read. The journal helped me understand Wu a little better. ( there's Wusako though. ) And the comic parts were nice.
However I would 100% recommend you check out these: I'd definitely recommend the graphic novels and the books with the ninja's names on them. These are my long time favorites, none are canon, but they're absolutely amazing reads! I know I recommended these to you back on the old message boards but it doesn't hurt to do it again.
