"I'm a naturally quiet person." Sanfor says cautiously.
"Good. It's just . . ." Alaia trails off, and then continues, emotion faintly audible in her voice, "Bakar was a good man. Garal's a good man, too. What's happening here isn't right. I don't expect you to join us, but don't cross us either."
"I plan on keeping my paws out of this mess." Sanfor says. "I don't know enough to choose a side."

Alaia nods. "Fine by me." She begins to walk away, but turns back before she has gotten far. "Be careful. I'm not sure how much longer you'll have the luxury of neutrality." She leaves.

"That's what I wondered myself." Sanfor mutters.
With Bakar gone, Alpida takes over training the Shadow Guard. Most of it stays the same, but the lessons on strategy are truncated and replaced with lectures on loyalty and following orders. A couple times, the Black Knight stops by training to observe them. When they finish, he walks over to congratulate a few on their hard work. He does not talk to Sanfor, but when the Black Knight is there, Sanfor can feel his eyes, watching. Very few people leave their quarters at night anymore, and when Sanfor goes to find the servant for his reading lessons, he is not there. The mood of the castle remains tense and somber. A week passes like this.

Sanfor stays very much to himself, alert but trying not to appear overly alert. Supposed oblivion might be his best shield.

OOC: I'm not sure exactly how I want to proceed from here, so I'm going to let this sit for a little bit while I plan the next steps. Just don't let me forget about this place.

OOC: Got it. This RPs really dead right now, isn't it?

OOC: Yeah, everything that's not this HQ depends on Shamrock, and since he's not very active I have to wait a while between things happening. He is making an effort to post here though, which is appreciated.

OOC: Yeah, he seems to have a lot of the major characters, whereas mine are just hanger-ons.

OOC: I'm not sure 'major character' is technically correct, but they are the ones making decisions.

OOC: Let's get back to it.
IC: Those that are suspected of treasonous acts are placed in stocks, near the courtyard where the Shadow Guard trains. Soldiers guard them at all times, and anyone caught aiding any of them in any one soon joins them. Sometimes, a handful of prisoners are taken from the stocks after a few days to make room for new ones, though at other times new stocks are simply built. Some of those released return to their lives in the castle. Most simply disappear, either to the dungeons or worse. One morning, Sanfor sees his tutor among the prisoners lined up to be placed in the stocks.

Up till this point Sanfor had kept this feelings in check regarding the situation in check, but he finally allows himself to choose a side. It has gone too far. The constant state of paranoia the city is in, the glances everybody shares, people turning in other people over past grievances, Sanfor can no longer believe in a place where this behavior is rampant. He owes no great loyalty to the city, he was merely lending them his services. He starts forming a plan to get his tutor free and escape the city, he knows he has to act quickly.

OOC: Finally. Well, I don't have anything in particular planned until your next action. I'll post more if something comes to mind. Otherwise, it's up to you to make the next move.

New character's bio:
Name - Sobald Peylo
Species - Human (male)
Occupation / Rank - General of the Shadow Warriors
Appearance - Not very tall - is short and stocky; is bald but the top of his head is always completely covered by a black leather coif (or black iron helmet, when he wears one).
Special Kit/Weapons - Broadsword
Steed - Black war horse called Wulff, typically wearing leather tack (with spikes added when going into battle) and a bridle sometimes decorated with single black plume.
Other Info - Dutiful, serious Sobald is a man of few words; being a foreigner from a far-off land in the north-east, he speaks the common language of the south lands pretty brokenly, knowing the basics enough to get by, as well as give (and be given) orders.

OOC: You finally spurred me into action. I'm gonna have to reread through a couple pages of posts to figure out who is who and who is on whose side.
