For the rest of the afternoon, Bakar lectures them on strategy and problem-solving. When evening arrives, those chosen to dine with the Black Knight leave to do that and Bakar tells the rest they are dismissed for dinner as well, but he will be ensuring that those who need to finish digging do so.
Sanfor scrounges up some scraps from the kitchens. He then goes in search of a better shovel.
He remembers they left all the shovels on the hill. Since there are only three of them digging tonight, he will be able to get a better one.

He scurries out to the hill.
Since night hasn't really fallen yet, he is the first one there. Alaia arrives a little later, and a couple hours after sunset Oier joins them, bragging about his dinner with the Black Knight.
With a fully functional shovel and a decent head start, Sanfor is able to finish his hole well before sunrise.

Sanfor drops the shovel out in the field, and trudges back to get what vestiges of sleep he can.
As he heads to his quarters, he hears whispering coming from a nearby room. It sounds like Bakar. "I don't know. Something's just off about him. He doesn't seem like the same guy."

Sanfor is rather too tired to process anything at this point, and walks on past, but does mumble the words to himself as he goes in search of a bed.

The trainees are housed in a single small room, with bunks. Everyone appears to be asleep, except, of course, for Oier and Alaia.
A couple of the other recruits shift in their sleep, but none wake up.
Sanfor sleeps deeply.
They are awoken at dawn to continue their training. A sparse, tasteless meal is provided and then they are sent out to the training grounds for exercises.

Sanfor scarfs the meal down and trots out to the grounds, surprisingly spry.

They start with a three-mile run at a fast pace. They then progress to other exercises, providing a full-body workout.
