OOC: It's too much work to keep everyone on a logical timeline with all of your irregular activity schedules.
Not so fast, because . . .
IC: A lone woman appears in the distance. As she draws closer, she becomes recognizable as Alpida. She is let inside and brought to the Black Knight.
"So, here is our missing Shadow Guard," he says, "As I'm sure you've already heard, I am the Black Knight, the predecessor of Valithor Icebeard, come to reclaim my throne. I was displeased to hear that one of my Shadow Guard was not present on my arrival. Your duty is here, not off on some foolish adventure. I hope we can bring you to understand that."
Alpida immediately kneels before him. "I, Alpida, do swear my life forevermore to the Black Knight. I swear to defend and uphold him and his kingdom. My life is no longer my own, but his. Should I fail him, my life is forfeit. There is no Alpida; there is only Shadow Guard. This I swear."
The Black Knight laughs. "Very good. You may stand. Now that that is done, I think it is time I learnt the abilities of my Shadow Guard, and those who would wish to join them. This afternoon, I will test you against the trainees."
Alpida stands. "Yes, my lord."
OOC: I'm trying to get back in swing, but man, it's rough.
OOC: Is Sanfor still drilling outside?
OOC: The best of luck to you.
Yes, he is, but I'll move things forward now. I just didn't want to do it all in one post.
IC: The morning training finishes, and the trainees are given a very short break to ingest a rather unappetizing meal of stale bread and broth so thin it almost might as well be water.
As they eat, the Black Knight enters the courtyard, with Garal and Alpida close behind. "Alright, listen up! It's time I saw what all of you are made of. So the ten of you, pair up, and fight!"
Who does Sanfor choose?
OOC: I'll let you go first, this time. You can pick Alpida, Garal, Ximon (tall, blonde), Oier (sneering archer), Hode (big), Mitel (small), Alaia (sad), Kemen (old), or Bakar.

The rest of the group pairs up. The Black Knight shouts, "Begin!" Oier, equipped with a long sword, charges Sanfor with a large downward swipe.
Sanfor's guard slips and he receives a nick on his arm. He backs away with a small cry.
OOC: Oh goody.
Encouraged by this, Oier comes at him again with more heavy, wild strikes.
OOC: The Shadow Guard is serious.
Sanfor clumsily blocks, and then finally makes a strike in offense, a stab at Oier's thigh. He still seems reluctant, but resigned that somebody is going to have to get hurt.
OOC: I'm figuring that out. I'm wondering if Sanfor is going to fit in here, or if I should have him throw in the towel, switch HQs, and then introduce a new character to join this HQ. Or maybe I could just make Sanfor toughen up.

Sanfor's strike connects and Oier pauses for a moment in surprise.
OOC: He should stay here for now. Some stuff is about to go down.

Sanfor's face hardens, and he takes advantage of that pause to swipe at his side.

OOC: That works.
Oier manages to partially divert the blow, but is still injured. He stumbles for a second before attempting another, significantly less powerful, swing.
OOC: Still make another character, though, if you want. Maybe send him/her to the Lion Knights to help us keep things moving there.

Sanfor is on fire now, something seems to take over as he easily blocks the swing, grounding the sword into the dirt, and with a powerful chop, he knocks the weapon out of Oier's hand. He pauses then, to see what Oier will do.
OOC: Okay, I keep wondering if that's a good idea with my activity levels, but I guess both my characters will just move at the same sporadic speed.
