“A Plains-Crawler,” N-81 said, picking it up, “distant relative to the Tree-Crawler. This species is adapted to blend in with tall grassy fields. By their numbers here, the tactic either clearly works or there are few predators here.” The afternoon sun was high in the sky now, sending waves of heat down upon them. So in the cover of the forest they took turns changing into clothes they had managed to scavenge and stuff into backpacks from their rooms aboard the Lunar Dawn before abandoning their camp by the ship. Now wearing shorts and T-shirts, they lounged about in the shade for a few hours while N-81 shut down to let his overheating power unit cool. A few hours later, N-81 awoke and told them it was time to move out. Not everyone agreed.
“Why should we?” One of Sweetcrazy’s servants demanded.
“You heard the droid!” Boomer scolded.
“You’re not the boss of me! Nor is that stupid scrap heap! He’s clearly malfunctioned! Tryin’ to walk us around in that hot sun! He’s gonna walk us to our deaths!” The servant yelled. There was a chorus of agreement among the rest of the servants.
“Enough Trevor!!” Sweetcrazy yelled angrily.
“No!! This is the last straw!! We’re tired of being ordered around! I think it’s time for a change in management, your majesty!!” Trevor spat the last two words out as if they left a sour taste in his mouth.

“Guys! Please! We gotta stick together! All this fighting is getting us nowhere!” Con yelled.
“Oh really? What makes you such an expert?” It was Tad who piped up now, acid dripping from his words. “Who put you in charge anyway?! All you’ve done this whole time is order us around like it’s you who knows what’s best, and not the rest of us! You and that bricking robot! Well I say no more! I’m with them on this! I’m not going to walk any further in that wicked sun! I say we camp here for a few days then move out at nightfall. We’re far enough from the ship to be safe! Besides, how do we know that your pet robot there isn’t just gonna walk us straight off a cliff!!”
“That’s enough Tad!” Stan shouted.
“No!! I’ve had enough of you Stan!! You’re not in charge of me either!”
“Enough!!” Essa screamed.
“Shut up!” One of the servants yelled at her.
“Hey!” Con yelled stepping forward. It quickly grew silent. Sweetcrazy, Con, Essa, Stan, Andrew, and N-81 on one side, Tad and the servants on the other. Both sides were squaring off. Several minutes in the icy silence passed. “Whatever,” Con said, relaxing, “Let’s just go. They aren’t worth it.” The rest relaxed as Con and N-81 began to walk away following. Only Tad and the servants stayed behind.
“That’s right!!” Tad yelled, “Run away! Follow your little robot right off some cliff! Good riddance!!”
Essa complained for the eighth time about her aching feet. And for the eighth time, Con assured her they were almost there. And for the eighth time, N-81 tried to ignore them. He was now beginning to understand the human concept of complaining very well. He was surprised when he felt something burning inside of him. A…feeling…but it didn’t feel fake or simulated. Suddenly, that feeling exploded and he burst out in annoyance.
“Will you stop?!” he snapped. The group froze, staring at him as if he had just done something very strange. He quickly realized what he had just done. “A-apologies. I-I do not know what caused that. My circuits must be overheating.” They continued on their way, all trying to forget what just happened. Moments later, they were happily chatting again. Essa stopped complaining about her feet, which was just fine by N-81.
The wolf was large. Essa thought that was cool. They had been standing still for ten minutes now while the large wolf continued to stare at them. It was definitely bigger than an Earth wolf. It was easily as big as a car. Essa loved wolves, but she didn’t dare move out of fear of scaring it away. It had shown up a little while ago, but who knows how long it might have been following them before that. They were walking through a section of the plains that was covered by rocks. Make that boulders. N-81 noted that they had probably been moved there by large amounts of volcanic activity. He had also noted that they were almost there. That was two hours ago. Essa’s feet hurt badly. It felt as though she had been walking on hot concrete that was filled with nails for a whole day now. She needed to sit down. Now, she was stuck standing in place because Con had ordered in a harsh whisper, “Nobody move.”. Sometimes she thought he needed to just relax a little. After all it wasn’t like the giant wolf with glowing yellow eyes was gonna eat them, right? The wolf growled hungrily, snarled, then arched is head into the air, giving a howl that rattled Essa’s bones. Ok, never mind, it was definitely going to eat them. Several more wolves began stepping out from behind rocks, eyeing them hungrily. Essa glanced back. They were only a few feet away from a spot where the grass got taller. They could lose the wolves in there. Con made eye contact with her. He had the same idea.
“Run!!” Con yelled, and the group scattered into the grass. The wolves snarled and gave chase. As she bolted, her heart pounding, Essa could only hope that the wolves would lose her in the grass. She ran as fast as she could, the blades of grass cutting her face, arms, and legs. It stung, and tears welled up in her eyes, but she wiped them away and kept running, fear once more threatening to paralyze her. Feet pounded through the grass some distance behind her. She didn’t know if it was a wolf or Nate. She froze suddenly, skidding to a halt as she just barely prevented herself from plummeting over the edge of a cliff. The wolves howled in the distance. The pounding of feet grew nearer. She was trapped. It was game over.
*loses tons of sleep* Oof, let’s hope Sweetcrazy doesn’t see her character in my story... XD Let’s hope.
Amazing. You just did everything exactly the opposite of what I said to do. You didn't even try to sleep! Don't worry about it. If she finds it, just make sure you don't think she's really like that at all.
It’s not still a thing is it? I thought they were all aggressive... (obviously) Yeah, same here. My main concern is Sweetcrazy. I don’t want her to take her character the wrong way... XD I’m not writing her character as a snob because I think she is one (and I don’t, for the record), but it was kinda just a random pick thing. Just the first user that came to mind. My characters don’t usually reflect my opinions of the users who play them.
………sure. From what I saw yes-ish. Just make it "inescapably clear" what you just told me. Totally makes sense. Same thing for mine (though I do try to put them into the character for realistic….ness, e.i. Dumbles is not really in his late thirties with rage issues. ) Alllll good.
