"Truly, he might as well be nothing more than a myth."
Disappointed, Emiliano's crew slump their shoulders in unison as their Captain calls off the celebration. Ordering the food to be given freely to the people, Emiliano calls for Kane's attention. "Shall we begin to discuss the repairing of yon vessel?"
Amid the cheers from the crowds, a shrill cry causes the hearts of many to shrink back in terror.
Wreathed in ashes, a small lifeboat gently bumps the side of a large vessel. In it was a man outstretched as if in eternal sleep, covered in bandages that reeked of festering wounds.
Luz immediately takes a flask of water from one of the captured crewmen and flies to the scene, pouring water over the man's face and tapping him lightly on the cheek with his beak.
Spitting out a strand of seaweed, the man slowly opens his eyes. Upon seeing a bird of prey, he rises in haste. "Je ne suis pas mort! (I am not dead!)"
A collective gasp from onlookers alerts him to his predicament. Analyzing the various faces of strangers, he throws his hands up and pleads with them. "Que s’est-il passé? Le feu, avez-vous chassé le feu? (What has happen? The fire, did you drive out the fire?)"
Shaking her head in astonishment, Emiliano crosses her arms. "What do you make of this Sir Kane?"
He seems to be speaking French. Perhaps he was traveling on a ship that caught fire.
"On a dinghy...for that long?" Furrowing a brow, she watches the Frenchman grab a hold of a port officer. He continues to plead for answers.
Turning her head aside, Emiliano notices one of the captured crewman attempting to back away from the scene. The hand on her rapier tightens.
Covering himself in a ragged cloak, the captured crewman mingles with the crowd by carrying on conversation regarding the Frenchman. Pushing aside those around him, he suddenly taps his head in shock.
His hat was dangling in front of him, pinned to a wooden wall by the end of a sharpened rapier.
The crewman's complexion melts into one of fear. Looking behind him, he cowers under the stare of Emiliano who remained at the port with Kane. Cupping her hands, she hollers back to him in a voice loud enough for the onlookers to hear.
"Ahoy! You sir with the missing cap! You seem well-versed in French. Might you translate what this poor fellow is saying?"
All eyes turn to the fleeing crewman who wrings his hands in embarrassment. "Uh, I don't, no---no good at-"
Ignoring his protests, the crowd take him by the arms and push him to the front. Seeing him, the Frenchman slumps forward as his strength wanes. Leaning on the crewman for support, he pleads one more time.
The poor wretched state of the Frenchman...the genuine fear and helplessness expressed in his eyes...a wave of guilt overcomes the crewmember. "Un feu vous dites? Comment ça? (A fire you say? How so?)"
The Frenchman gasps for water before crumpling to the ground. Laying on his back, he looked as if in a trance. "Un feu...feu. (A fire...fire.)"
Leaning close to his ear, the crewman listened to his account, drawing back in horror. "He claims the French Port has been raided by a horde of pirates. The governor is nowhere to be found, and the governor pro-tempore has been sent to the galley."
Emiliano crosses her arms. "And what of the pirates? Can he share a description on the rogues?"
The crewman gulps. "The ship he could not see, but he heard screams from the governor palace speak of one known as Claude."
The crowd gasps.
Emiliano thanks Luz for returning her rapier. Sheathing it with an air of authority, she nods. "Claude."
The crowd gasps again.
Leaning to Kane, Emiliano raises a brow while lowering her voice. "Uh...you know a Claude? "

I don't know him, but I've heard tales. He's a terrible, wicked man. They say he can make a bear's fur stand on end. Ruthless pirate. OOC: Should I make a Claude character?

OOC: Everything needed to catch up on established plotlines can be found in the "Pirate Roleplay Topic". Claude can be found at the French HQ currently.
IC: "Then out of respect for bears everywhere we shall call him to account. Kane, a meeting is in order. I'll leave you to select the location, whether that be on your ship or mine." Returning to the enemy crewman, she motions for him to come back. "Bring him onboard, I'll prepare the medicine to treat the poor fellow's wounds."

Emiliano boards her vessel La Paloma.
Y'all should stay here in this area. These ports are vulnerable. We should protect the people.

Turning her head half ways, Emiliano's eyes narrow as her tone turns grim. "I have no intention of abandoning these good people, Captain Kane. But if the Frenchman is to be believed, we might need to form an alliance greater than our own."
{Jammers For COLT} I've set up a plot thread that would allow Kane to naturally be absent from the story as he'll be searching for allies to build up the Pirate Alliance.
This is entirely up to you whether or not this is where you want to take Kane. (But if possible before your retirement, I have a gift at the La Paloma location. It is a plot thread I've been saving for a while, and I think Kane will like it. )

OOC: Sounds good. IC: Jack: That sounds like a good plan, ma'am. I also wanted to tell you something. *Whispers:* I've heard that Claude might be hangin' around Galveston or Galveston Bay.
