"Wayyy before my time". Now you're making me feel "wayy" old. I'd say I preferred the old days anyway.
Ah, okay. One can tell a lot by one's profile picture. Here it's almost always related to someone's hobby. So I can guess that yours is anime. I might also add that you've spelled "favorite" in the UK spelling. Across the pond then? There doesn't seem to be near the amount of users from Europe as there used to be on LEGO.com.
Oh, sorry. That's what most oldies say... That they prefer everything the way it was six or so years ago. :P
Yes, I like my anime. :P I probably should know this but... Who is your profile picture supposed to be of?
Nah mate, I'm an Aussie. I'm an even rarer specimen. :P
Twas a simpler time with simpler pleasures, and if it stayed that way I think the LEGO.com Message Boards might be here today. Things change and pass away, and I've got the memories of the LMBs in their prime. Funny, the old LMBs couldn't exist if they were under the newer rules, and the newer LMBs even more certainly could not exist under the old rules.
Hmm, I've always been rather curious as to peoples hobbies, the reasons for them. Why anime? Favorite genre? What does anime mean to you and how does it enrich your life?
My profile picture is an old composer from the early 20th century, Gustav Mahler. I've been here since a month after the closing of the LMBs, yet have only chosen a profile picture as a yesterday. I always meant to find a most fitting one, but I don't think I have as of yet.

So, what's your personal taste in music?
I heard that everything was more relaxed back in those days, particularly the moderation. Is this true, or am I thinking of something else?
I like anime because it's different. It fuses together Western and Asian culture, a fusion that I find enjoyable to watch. It also combines elements of TV that aren't often put together, elements that I'm not sure I would be allowed to explain. Anime also showcases great voice acting and music (most of the time), two things that can, for me, make or break a show. I wouldn't say that anime meant anything to me, other than it's just something I like to watch. I also wouldn't say that I had a favourite genre, either.
Would you consider Mahler to be fitting? Why did you choose him in the first place?
Oh, music. I personally think I have a very odd taste in music. There's no genre that I could say is my "favourite". Really, if it's anything other than pop, country, or folk, I generally like it. I don't exactly have any favourite artists. I have probably thousands or so that I "like", but none that I could generally consider "favourites". This is probably because I spent 95% of my music-listening time listening to random Spotify playlists. As a result of this, I get to listen to heaps of different songs, from heaps of different artists, which is why I like a lot of artists from a wide array of genres.
What about you? What's your taste in music?
(Sorry if my English is a bit bad in this post, I've got a headache and I can't really think properly )

Moderation was certainly different a while back, but I don't think I would describe it as relaxed. I didn't mean that the rules were any much stricter, but that the accepted norms of the LMB culture were so very different, and they were considered rules. I would say that there were three major differences that changed the LMBs in major ways.
1. The LEGO Message Boards were always about LEGO. Role-play, stories (about LEGO themes and not silly subjects or user's adventures), and LEGO News dominated the whole Message Boards. 99% of people took it all seriously, and that led to things being extremely fair and democratic. Councils of users actually did things and made major decisions on how to role-play, post, even compete in contests. It brought out the best in near everyone.
Cafes existed, but again, no chatting. They were most or less neutral areas for role-play and serving food.
Roleplay headquarters often had polls about the LEGO theme and stories were greatly encouraged too. Anything not absolutely LEGO related was considered either Spam or Off-Topic. Users often used the acronym "B.O.T" for "back on topic" to politely keep things on track. Chatting was totally off-limits, this conversation and the entire "Old Timers" topic would be rejected by the Mods with polite message "this is off topic/not LEGO related". Users came here to create with LEGO or not at all.
It was all about a child's and teenager's passion for the world's greatest building toy.
2. Because Moderation was standardized as 24 hours, role-play moves would have to be carefully thought out and absolutely fair or in the next Moderation cycle your adversary would totally get the upper hand. Some users even used realistic role-play with 20 sided dice to decide battles. Roleplay was almost story driven, and did not have giant post chains, but was decided quickly and fairly. 3 moves or actions was the maximum about of things you could do in a post.
Because Moderation was so slow, and user count was so low, there was a limit to how many posts you could make a day and it was not in the hundreds or even dozens. This meant that the post-count ranking system was almost full-proof in is fairness, in that if you had a higher rank, that meant you had created only quality posts, were a major part of the LMB community (no friendly and fair participation meant no posting), and had stuck around long enough to make enough posts. It was elder based. Old Timers were literally that, old and well versed in crafting great posts and role-playing. Often a user wouldn't enter the News Forum (one of the most serious and difficult to continually post well in forums) until they were at least craftsmen, which meant several months old or even a year.
Moderation was also super strict in accepting topics. Role-play headquarters were very, very few in a forum, News Station were created by seasoned veterans only. If your topic in a role-play forum was accepted (once again, a rare event) it was a major honor and you felt like you had made it in the LMB world.
3. Smartphones started to really boom around 2008 or so. I don't know when it really affected LEGO.com, or the number of users who used smartphones, but I know that posting became much easier for many people, and instead of only being able to visit once a day when your parents gave you an hour or two on the compute, it was 24/7 full access. People flooded and the population grew well above what it had ever been. More users is a good thing, but it broke-up role-playing and News Stations when there were only a dozen or so users in a topic. Balance was thrown off.

Things change and pass away, and I've got the memories of the LMBs in their prime. Funny, the old LMBs couldn't exist if they were under the newer rules, and the newer LMBs even more certainly could not exist under the old rules.

Hmm, thanks for you personal explanation of anime. Funny how you haven't picked a favorite genre, yet I might assume that you've got a favorite or near favorite character as your avatar. Why Yukino?
I really put off choosing an avatar. I wanted it to be a screenshot of an old avatar from LEGO.com, but that felt... off somehow. I thought about using a classic or simi-classic LEGO minifigure (EED has a great one, good choice mate), but that too did not feel quite right for me. I guess I knew I would use a monochrome (black and white) picture of a famous figure, but I didn't want to feel pretentious. I was going to use an old standard of mine, another composer, Ludovico Einaudi, but I felt it didn't fit in as well as an aged photo, as Einaudi is a 21st century composer. So I thought about old presidents, poets, ect. but I guess I chose Mahler because of his expression. I almost felt like never picking one and being the eternally "anonymous" avatar, but that felt too impersonal.
I find it a little curious for a person to have ambiguous tastes in music. I've always thought that music went with either specific activities or emotional places. To be vague in taste feels like vagueness in thought or place, because music either draws out emotions or creates emotions for active use. Then again, that's me speaking from my own opinions which I think are skewed to use music as a weapon, an escape, a tool, an answer. I guess I'm just picky.
Forgot to mention your mention of Australia, although I don't have much comment on it, other than the acknowledgment of my assumption, which was just that, my assuming your general location, which was incorrect.
Your description of role play is interesting, very different from what I know. I got into role play around 2016, but I often found that there wasn't really much thinking or strategy involved. It was very simplistic. But even though it was simplistic, it took ages to get anything done. Fights, actions, everything, took weeks, even months due to their simplicity. Like, it wasn't complicated at all. I'm assuming that it must've gotten less complicated over the years so newbies could understand it better.
A limit too how many posts you could make? I didn't know that. Who on earth thought it was a good idea to get rid of that? That would have certainly been good. Less spam, less work for the mods...
Yes, whilst I don't have a favourite genre, I have favourite characters. Yukino is from a show I may or may not be allowed to mention, and she's one of my favourite anime characters because of her excellent character development. She's an intellectual character, that's probably a bit egotistical, always pointing out everyone else's flaws, always showing trying to be the best. But over the course of the show, her character changes, and she learns to become a nicer, kinder, more selfless person. I won't explain it in full, but this character development is why I like her so much. It's developments like these that I find other shows lack, and developments like these make for an interesting story.
Just curious, have you gone into the settings and had a look around? You can change the "Forum Theme" to an old LMB one, to make this forum look somewhat like the old LMB's. Maybe with the old LMB look, your original profile picture would fit.
Your opinions are perfectly fine. When people ask me about my tastes, I get told that I'm waaaay to vague. But I don't try to be vague, it's the truth. I like a lot of different types of music, because there's nothing that sticks out to me, nothing that I can look at and say "Hey, that genre/artist is my kind of thing".
Most people assume I'm from the UK with my English, so it's fine.
We need to get like Drew and Rocko and Wertys and PHINN and Gho and all them here somehow
You say that as if it were possible, as it is a very specific list of users. I might think you can make contact with them.
No word on old Peat-a-peat? Pity. I felt that our goodbyes were very ragged and rushed, and she was one of my oldest friends.
I was just using 'em as examples of the era of users I would love to chat with again Peat checked in on the Wiki yesterday actually, saw an edit on a talk page by her!

Roleplay changed a few years after I joined. like instead of being LEGO, story, and character based, it became more random. It never felt overly complicated, and newbies were most always given leniency. Things just changed when people's view of the message boards changed.
character development is often passed over for character action. Of course there are shows and other media that focus on development, but too often they lack it. I know of the show you're speaking of, so further discussion of it is unnecessary. Let us not bend the rules.
So as an avatar, does she represent what you're really like, who you want to be like, or just your outward expression?
I've seen the "Old LMB" format, and appreciate it very much, although it isn't the same, and so the same avatar would not be fitting. Seeing the old format, and myself at the rank "Apprentice" and then changing to "Journeyman" was a large does of nostalgia... ? (Greek from "return home", and "pain". Homesickness), natsukashii? (more of a warmness, with little or no sickness, when revisiting someplace or thing). Saudade maybe? (a wistfulness at missing something, from Old Portuguese for "solitude", related to "to salute") Ah, I have it hiraeth. An old Welsh word for "homesickness for a home to which you cannot return, or for a home which may have never been".
Well, now you know another little hobby of mine, words and etymology. I really enjoy learning the true meaning behind words, forgotten meaning in words used everyday, and the history and birth and joining of words to make a right word.

Ah.... I see. I certainly would enjoy hearing some more oldies around here.
I've looked high and low for old PAP, but haven't seen her active. I think I heard she made another account on the Wiki, although I do not know what it is. If you could please tell her about this site and that I am here (I no longer have an active account at the wiki, got rid of 'em), then I would be very, very grateful.
