That's entirely up to you. We're not majorly short of staff, so it's not urgent, but we're always open to new team members. If you think you'd like to help out, and are OK with losing your rank and the possibility of seeing bad words, then apply. If you're not, don't.

Well, some of the designers do moderate anyway, the difference is moderators don't have to do any designing and there are some differences that are more subtle that I won't bother getting into. If you were to be a designer nothing stops you from moderating posts.
You can do both, as long as you have the time. For example, kingwja and Sam are both Designers and Moderators, while ar9914 is just a Designer and the rest are just Moderators.

They can, it's just that Designer is what gets displayed if you're both, so a Moderator that's a Designer is just a Designer that's a Moderator.

I get it. You can change the display name to Moderator if you desire since you still have Designer powers. Or you could be like Sam and make your custom title "Moderator" .
