Once Kai was subdued, the leader and her followers turned back to the audience, the guards gripping Skylor tightly. Several of the humans holding staffs or spears began—one by one—to bang the butts of their weapons on the floor. Bang. . .Bang. . .Bang. . . More joined in, creating a slow, haunting, menacing beat. It sounded like an enormous clock ticking down the seconds to the doom of the prisoners. The beat began to speed up as Skylor was dragged to the edge of the portal. She stared into the swirling colors with wide eyes, breathing quickly. She turned and met Kai’s eyes. Bang. Bang. Bang. Black Blood drew some sort of silver necklace from the folds of her dark robes, from it dangling an odd little round crystal, looking like a transparent glass ball. She showed it to her tribe, and they began to chant again. “Dark Sleep. . .Dark Sleep. . .Dark Sleep. . .” The beat and the chanting grew faster, and Skylor tried to say something from under the gag. Kai felt wretched looking at her, and wished he could find something to say. “Skylor. . .” Black Blood turned to Raven Frost and handed the necklace to him. He stepped up to Skylor, holding the crystal up in one hand, and stared at her, murmuring something Kai couldn’t hear. “Leave her alone!” He cried desperately, even though he knew there was no way to stop what was going on. Bang. Bang. Bang. “Dark Sleep. . .Dark Sleep. . .Dark Sleep. . .” Skylor’s eyes suddenly closed and she fell limp in her captors’ arms. More cats jeered and caterwauled in excitement, picking up the pace. Bang, bang, bang, bang. . . “Dark Sleep, Dark Sleep, Dark Sleep, Dark Sleep. . .!” “Skylor!” Kai shouted over the chanting as they carried her over to the portal. With a heave of both their arms and Kai’s heart, they tossed her down into the portal leading to who-knows-where. As she fell and disappeared, a burst a cold wind howled from the portal, and snowflakes spewed out and hit him in the face. The crowd cheered as the portal closed up. Kai noticed that the transparent crystal ball was now glowing with the color of amber, pulsing like a heartbeat. Bang, bang, bang, bang, bang! “Dark Sleep, Dark Sleep, Dark Sleep, Dark Sleep, Dark Sleep!” The tawny cat sitting by the boulder morphed smoothly into a woman with a long, light-brown braid and fiery eyes, and she took out her own necklace, exactly the same as the last one. Kai’s guards began to shove him toward the portal, and he struggled furiously. He dug in his heels at the very edge of the portal, feeling the energy pulling at him, beckoning to him. The woman stood in front of him and held up the crystal in front of his face, smiling softly. He shied away from the little ball, trying desperately to think of a way to escape. Bang, bang, bang, bang, bang! “Dark Sleep, Dark Sleep, Dark Sleep, Dark Sleep!” The woman murmured something unintelligible, and though Kai tried to fight it, an irresistible urge to sleep tugged on his eyelids and slowed his breathing. The urge was so strong, he felt that he actually wanted to sleep, but at the same time he felt that something really, really bad would happen to him if he did. He fought feebly, his struggles waning, and soon his eyes closed and he succumbed to the sound of the staffs banging on the floor, cat-creatures chanting, and Black Blood laughing softly. Bang bang bang bang bang bang! “Dark Sleep Dark Sleep Dark Sleep Dark Sleep. . .!!” He fell asleep. . . And found himself in the worst nightmare of his life.
Interesting. Does it last until the necklace is broken or is it only temporary? Also what the heck did the ancestors do to those Cat-People and Dog-People?

You’ve got the wrong guy!” “Are you not Kai, son of Ray, the Master of Fire, the red ninja, and one of the protectors of Ninjago?” She hissed. “Uh. . . Yeah.” “Then we have the right human, and more.” ***
She stood up and turned to a black and white cat sitting nearby. “Raven Frost, tell Holly Tail and Fire Paw to *** bring the Daughter of Amber to me.” ****
Black Blood gripped his left arm and stared into his eyes. “All will be revealed in good time, Son of Fire.” She purred as she drew the sleeve away, exposing his bare forearm. She raised a hand, and it molded into a black, furry paw. Long, sharp claws unsheathed slowly, and then she swiped smoothly at his skin. Kai gritted his teeth, refusing to show any pain. She inspected her paw and, to his disgust, casually licked at it. “This will prove to be helpful to us. Thank you.” She turned when several people appeared from the dark tunnel entrance. ***
