What is with the stuff from the EU/Legends in Rebels?

In Star Wars Rebels things were taken from the Expanded Universe/Legends like-

Kanan- a blind Jedi with a blue lightsaber the other Jedi that was blind with a blue lightsaber was Rahm Kota from the force unleashed games. So Kanan is like a young version of Rahm Kota

Grand Admiral Thrawn returning

What are your opinions on things from the Expanded universe returning?
