I'm going back and "polishing up" this story I wrote three years ago, and oh my god how my writing had changed since then. The whole story is dumb but I truly love it. It's everything I loved when I was 13 swuished into one giant ball with a bow barely maintaining itself after being wrapped around said ball.
I remember when you said you were doing this originally.
Then you're old and you should feel old.
In all honesty, I just felt like it was something I needed to outgrow because it's friggin' Legos. So I did what anyone with that mindset would do and began writing several drafts of a story featuring a man in spandex who can stop bad guys with a frisbee.
I like it. I especially like that you remembered to open it with a spaceship. I don't know if Leia could actually become a force ghost, considering her low level of Force Knowledge and how even only a few Jedi mastered becoming a ghost, but I feel like that is something they might do as a tribute to Carrie Fisher. In that way, I'm fine with it. Seems a good tribute.
Can you elaborate on 'a bunch of stuff'?
Ooh, make him walk off into a double sunset. That would be poetic and perfect.
Well, I thought since Anakin was able to become a Ghost, even though he was only recently redeemed, then Leia would probably be able to. Just my take on things though. I was thinking they could even hijack some unused footage for a cameo as a Ghost near the end.
Well, I'm rather undecided on that stuff. Since Ben will have started to reject the First Order, and Snoke is dead, there won't be much of a threat without some sort of destructive weapon, but I don't want another Death Star. I do want Rey, Ben, and Finn to work together at some point, and I want Anakin's Ghost to help convince Ben to leave the Dark Side.
I'm working on the bulk of the middle and end, though, I'll post a more complete summary here.
We've had enough binary sunsets, I'll have him walk off into a triple sunset (which does rarely exist), signifying the end of three trilogies.
Well, Anakin was a bit special because he was the Chosen One. I mean, I love the idea of Leia becoming one, but I beeeelieve that Qui-Gon was the first Jedi to ever figure out how. So there's only four Force ghosts, or five if you count Luke, in all of Jedi history, which makes it hard to believe someone who was untrained would be able to... Unless Luke taught her how at some point. That would be an interesting choice. It'd probably be possible, too. I like the unused footage idea.
That'd be cool. How about the Knights of Ren? They're still out there. We saw them in Rey's vision and Luke mentions that some more of his trainees led by Kylo turned Dark, which (I assume) are them. They'd be good antagonists. Also, at some point, Hux definitely has to attempt a coup on Kylo. I like the Anakin's force ghost idea, too.
Ah. Gotcha. I will read that definitely.
Yeah... but Binary would mirror the beginning of the three trilogies on Tatooine. Maybe I am just a binary sunset fanboy.
That's probably true. I like Han, but as far as the original trio of main characters go, I was always more of a Luke guy.
Good. Otherwise we would need to fight. More seriously, I am especially looking forward to it because it looks like, at the least, it will deliver on being fun. Of course, there's always a danger of raising the "fun" expectations too high which is dangerous.... I don't want to choke on my expectations.
Don't make me choose from the original three! They're all great.
I do wonder exactly why Lord and Miller were fired. I'm worried that their vision was what I wanted from this film. Lucasfilm has had too many complications!
-Rogue One reshoots -Carrie Fisher's death -Colin Trevarrow fired -Lord and Miler fired
What's next?
Well, from what I understand from what was supposedly happening, they were improving, ignoring the script at many points, and turning it into a straight-up spoof/comedy instead of a just a fun, lighter toned SW film. If that's true, we dodged a bullet. They needed to be fired. What's confusing is how they would get hired in the first place if their vision and Lucasfilm's are so vastly different.
I want it to be built in her staff, but I'm 95% certain she's just going to reforge the same Lightsaber. It's only broken into two pieces, and she has both.
Ugghhh, do we really need to bring that lightsaber back again?
Yeah, I know, I kinda wanna let the past die. But, it's JJ Abrams, so he's definitely bringing it back.
I did! It was very good. I think Chris Pratt explained the film best when he compared it to a combination of Shakespeare and James Bond. And, somewhat rarely for a Marvel film, both villains are really good. Klaue is pure fun, and Michael B. Jordan's character (anyone know if I am allowed to say his name on here?) is really deep and has meaningful motives.
Shakespeare + Bond is an accurate description. Wow.
Both villains were excellent! Erik Killmonger's (we can say his name, he has a minifigure) motivations were deep and Andy Serkis is my one true love.
It's probably tied with Guardians of the Galaxy as my favorite Marvel Studios film.
Yep, I agree.
Mhm. And they perfectly balanced each other to round out the antagonists. Killmonger is really emotionally deep, and has a philosophy you can understand, but he's not a "fun" villain. Klaue is really fun and funny, but doesn't have any philosophical depth. He just wants money. Combine them, and you get the best of both.
I don't think it's that high on my list Probably fifth... I like Cap 2 and 3, Avengers 1, and Iron Man 1 all a bit better. But its still definitely one of the MCU's best.
There you are! I thought you left just like you said last year.
How was The Last Jedi and Black Panther for you (if you've seen them)? TLJ is unfortunately a 5/10 for me while Black Panther is a 9.8/10 (despite me starting to find it a bit boring in my second viewing with my friends).
I came back for vacation, because I have time during breaks, even if not much during school.
I enjoyed them both! The Last Jedi was fantastic, IMO. It's one of my favorite movies I've ever seen, and I think my favorite SW film. I have the exact opposite opinion of you, pretty much. Black Panther was also really good. Not as good as TLJ, in my opinion, but good enough that I can definitely get why this is many people's favorite MCU film, even if it isn't mine. There are several discussions going on now in which I explain what I liked about it.
Seen Black Panther twice last week. In my first viewing, I came with my siblings and in my second viewing, with my friends who were my former classmates and some former schoolmates as our reunion. Was supposed to see it once only since the original plan was to see it on Friday last week on Chinese New Year since there were no classes that day. However, because there were attendance problems, which always made our reunions cancelled, I moved it to the Saturday and came with my siblings to watch it the day before.
We got late again in my first viewing and this time, I'm to blame, but then again, I'm to blame for almost everything that happens here at home... Anyway, the opening and the middle part were a bit boring, and the plot was just a bit predictable. Also, the CGI was a bit bad, though not that noticeable; but other than those rants, it was great. I think I can say it's the best MCU film yet (hopefully to be topped by Infinity War). The humor was good and I'm also glad that it we had another "serious" MCU film again since The Winter Soldier and Civil War. Killmonger was another great MCU villain and I nearly cried for him too. The action scenes, while not as good as the action scenes in The Winter Soldier, Civil War, The Avengers, Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 (Yondu's arrow scene), and Thor: Ragnarok, were also great, particularly the casino brawl and maybe also the car chase scene. The overuse of shaky cam, however, got a bit too distracting and somehow made me feel like I was watching a documentary or low-budget film (mostly during the Nigeria scene). The soundtrack really did make me feel like I was watching an African movie (given the setting), though not as memorable. The story was also great and felt like the MCU's version of The Lion King. I gave it a 9.8/10 in my first viewing, though I still feel like I was overrating it a bit that time. Then in my second viewing, I started to feel a bit bored but still liked the movie. My rating started to go down to 8.5/10 despite me liking it more than the MCU movies with higher scores. Perhaps I'll still keep it to my original 9.8/10 since I'm still feeling those "Black Panther vibes" because of how good it is.
Yeah, I totally agree what you're saying about it being serious. I love that Ryan Coogler took the material seriously. Don't misunderstand me, I really enjoy more comedic Marvel films, but after all three that came out last year had a more comedic tone, it was really good to get a not-so-comedic (though still really funny when it wanted to be) MCU film again. I loved two out of three of last year's MCU films, but they kept taking away my hype for more MCU, because, well, it's hard to get hyped for a comedy. Panther brought the hype back!

I feel waaaaaaaay too old.
"The most versatile substance on the planet, and they use it to make a frisbee." That is the logical next step, yes. It's a rite of passage into adulthood. Every adult needs to have the skill to write about superheroes.
Since people are talking Black Panther, I feel as though I should say my opinion on it too.
It's a masterpiece, in simple terms. Felt very Shakespearean in the conflict, how everybody had very personal stakes in it. In that regard, the movie ascended to a level that no other superhero film in memory ever could. It's my favorite beyond any doubt.
I only ever did cringe at Ross' "What, you're going to need all the help you can get." Just... so cliche and it kind of took me out of the film. Just for two seconds.

Yeah, the camera was a little nauseating at times.
Same with the vibes.
I know! I feel bad for Killy. Wait, that's a bad nickname...
I thought the CGI was pretty good. Probably because I've seen much worse...
I agree! It was pretty awesome. Infinity War seems like it'll be good too.
I honestly really liked the humor. (Those girls were great characters!)
By the way, I was a little surprised to learn that Everett was played by a Brit.
