Swallowing, Eliaphet's throat had become dry. Seeking her jug of water, she pops off the cap and begins to chug it down.
???: "Oh good. They brought re-enforcements. Can you spare some of your supplies with a fellow Monarchy lover? Hrm?"
Pausing with her head back and jug to her lips, Eliaphet's eyes grow wide.
???: "Hello? Cavora to Chimian. Any brains in there?"
From the other side of a bush, an Eagle wearing scholar clothing had his hands on his hips in frustration. "Wow, the Monarchy must not send the best for back-up these days."
The jug is thrown through the bush, landing in front of the Informant's feet. Smiling with glee, he plays with his fingers and scoops its up.
???: "Ah, refreshing! So, what word can you bring back from the Queen? Hmm?"
Eliaphet shifts her eyes, pulling her hood closer to her face though the thick bush prevented each of them from seeing each other.
???: "Oh, you're probably waiting for me first. Welp, that Galvanor dude and his cronies are as good as gone, but ya never know, you know? I mean, look with the Monarchy. Word on the street is that some wackos still think the Rhino Prince should be considered royalty and is even alive!"
He taps his stomach as it gurgles. "Hey, you got any food too?"
Taking this in, Eliaphet sucks in air and breathes out a deep gruff grumble. From the other side of the bush, The Informant scratches his head. "Wow, I guess you wanna know more. At least the Monarchy is thorough! Okay, okay. Hrm." He taps his chin. "Well the vacuum of power left behind in Galvanor's wake leaves a good opening for the Monarchy to flex their new authority. Hearing those Lion representatives chatter is getting boring, just the usual hopeful mush."
The Informant shrugs his shoulders. "And who knows? Perhaps this Galvanor may prove useful one day. Sure he may have messed up a few, well a lot of things at the Spire, but did he get a lot of things done. Maybe he's worthy enough for a restoration of power-" Argah!
Eliaphet leaps from the other side of the bush, holding the Informant by the throat.
"How could an Eagle carelessly toss aside the lives of others, especially that of his own tribe!"
The Informant looses his breath, frightened beyond belief. "You-you, aren't you a-"
Eliaphet nicks a feather off his head with her Bulwark. "Tell me, did this Galvanor ever attempted to quell this war?"
The Informant is lifted upward. He fiddles with his fingers, coughing. "Well no not exactly, but I mean the Chi hold was pretty great for a time, ach!"
Slamming him down, Eliaphet scowls. "So he exchanged the union of Chima's Tribes for profit? Hmm!?"
The Informant weakly gets up, holding his hand outward. "Ey, ey. Those Lions had it coming. I thought you were on the Monarchy's side, why does it bother you?"
"Cease mention of the Monarchy. I am a Chimian first!"
"I am sensing some hostility here. Uh, I'm getting that you aren't a-"

Slicing a trunk through its middle, Eliaphet silently continues her barrage against the Rhino Informant. Sidestepping, the Informant dodges before tripping over a stone jutting upward from the ground. Entangled in a bush of thorns, he begs for mercy.
Grabbing the Informant by the collar of his uniform, Eliaphet pulls him out of the bush, disregarding the Informant's discomfort. Casting him aside, the Informant rolls into a fallen tree trunk and gasps in pain from the marks left by the thorns.
"The spores of the thorns should have their effect."
cRaSh! BoOM!
The smell of smoke drifted to the battleground as specks swirled downward, gently as if snow. With reverent steps, Eliaphet surveyed the destruction, though barely able to keep steady footing.
An Eagle Scholar, a mere youth, laid across the ground having been thrown into a wall by the explosion. Knowing not his identity, nevertheless Eliaphet cradled his head and poured water into his parched lips. A moment's peace before his final breath.
Surrounded by destruction, Eliaphet tightened her beak. The view brought upon her a feeling of whiplash.
So this was the legacy of Chima? Death.
Eagle Jets arrive, dispatching squads of medics hollering commands to one another and placing the various injured on individual stretchers. Shielding her face, she quietly folds the hands of the fallen Eagle Scholar and motions for a stretcher.
As they lift him up, one medic takes note of the unusual coloring of Eliaphet's feathers. A cry from a fellow medic snatches his attention and he jogs away to the next patient.
From behind a fallen statue, the Monarchy Informant stands aghast. "I must report this to Rufus." Noticing a lone speedor, he immediately takes it as his own and drives off.
Bliston: "His Erdrik guise initially fooled everyone who hadn't known King Erdrik personally; perhaps it couldn't be helped. At least one war is over."
"We must be thankful for that, at least. But perhaps some good may come of this; the Eagle Tribe has has strained relationships with its neighbours, other than the Crocodiles, for years now. Maybe a hard reboot was necessary in order to restore peace to the region."
Bliston: "True, you may be right about that. So I presume you'll return to your position of Regent until the Eagles choose a new--?"
The Bat King is interrupted by the sound and reverberation of an explosion below.
Bliston: "What was--?! Friendly fire??"
Without waiting for an answer, Bliston swoops out of the open hangar and soars down. It doesn't take him long to see the remnants of a small explosion, as Eagles put out the fire.
The observant King flies closer and scans the gash that's been blown open in the spire, spotting the possible bomber: a creature he's never seen before, standing upright with the same bipedal body as most Chimians, with brown, leathery skin on his back, but on his front side, the brown skin becomes spotted, giving way to white. The being has a strangely-shaped head and a helmet to fit and mask it, though two prongs extend out of the mask, presumably from the sides of the creature's mouth, similar to a scorpion or spider's mandibles, yet not nearly as sharp or pointed.
Bliston dives down, but doesn't catch the creature as it dissappears using a smoke bomb.
Eagle: "What was that thing?!"
Bliston: "That, I strongly suspect... was a manta ray."

Eagle: "What was that thing?!"
Bliston: "That, I strongly suspect... was a manta ray."
Eliaphet glides over the damage, searching for those missed by first responders. An Eagle hunched over catches her eye and she dives downward to their position. Finding a fallen Eagle Soldier helmet, she puts in on and changes her accent before approaching the Eagle.
Eliaphet: "Are you injured?"
The Eagle grabs Eliaphet by the shoulders and wails. "We are being punished! We rejected his wisdom. The age of Eagles is over! We face punishment, extinction! Galvanor was right!"
???: "Galvanor is gone!" A black bat whose face was covered by an elaborate silver visor and black fur tunic across his chest emerges from the swirling smoke, aiming his Thundax at the two. "Turn towards me with thine hands upward. All survivors are to gather at the nearest medical camp."
Pushing away Eliaphet, the Eagle falls toward the ground and crawls to the bat, pleading with his hands. "No? Don't you see? I only speak the truth! We are being punished! Punished! Ahharg!" The Eagle covers his ears and sprawls on the ground in agonizing pain.
Turning off the Thundax, the bat cuffs the Eagle and roughly brings him to his feet. Pointing to Eliaphet, he motions for her to follow. "Soldier, take this Eagle to medical camp for aid. His mind is clearly damaged. I will continue mine search for survivors. If thou see any of the Bat guards, tell them that Barke is on search and rescue." Handing her the Eagle, he marches off.

Bliston stands in the spot where the explosion occured, now with the fire put out, and continues to stare at the smoke created by the smoke bomb.
Bliston: "...How could the Rays have gotten past our sea wall, and our patrols?"
The eagle next to him who'd helped put out the fire nervously speaks up.
Eagle: "Your Majesty, what about that mysterious faction of Eagles and Tigers that left here just as quickly as they arrived?"
Bliston: "Right, back when they first came to Chima, I was away, but the Bat Coast Guard let them through on the assumption that it was a joint expedition from the Eagle and Tiger tribes that'd set out before we'd migrated to New Bat Island."
Eagle: "But now you know they were a separate faction from the West Sea... Though they initially sided with Galvanor, so I guess they couldn't have been aligned with the Rays--"
Bliston: "No, wait! That's it!"
Eagle: "Y-Your Majesty?"
Bliston: "A squad of Rays, or at least one, stowed away on the Eagle and Tiger faction's ships in order to get to Chima undetected! That's the only way it could've happened. Yes, it all adds up..."

At the safe zone, Eliaphet watches the injured being carried away on stretchers into tents and the many displaced survivors sharing food with one another. Leaving the Eagle with medical officers, she explores the camp and stumbles upon an Eagle child suffering from a broken wing. Taking medical equipment off a nearby rack, she resets the bone in place and pulls a plush stuffed with moss out of her satchel, handing it to the frightened child.
As she walks through the camp, her mind remains asking questions. "Galvanor? I thought he was promised gone. I must know, a small service on my part to find out." Eliaphet looks down at her feet. "But Rorik? He doesn't know what's his right hand from left, yet he is at mercy to the whims of Whit." Unable to take another step, it was as if she was frozen.
Eagle Guard: "Soldier! Follow me, we are to conduct an investigation at the detonation site immediately!" A dozen Eagle Guards push her forward as they march to the command of their superiors. A few of them whisper amongst themselves.
Guard 1: "Do you really believe the babbling buffoon? Whoever is responsible must be an enemy of the tribe working for another's interest, maybe after the throne!"
Guard 2: "Enough of this! We have a job to do and you whisper rumors! A disgrace to those who did not make it."
Guard 3: "She's right. Galvanor or not, we'll see what the site has to give us for leads."
Eliaphet keeps her head down and flies to the site, keeping in formation. The Bat Barke and his soldiers join them in flight.
Barke: "On behalf of the Bat Tribe, we are to aid in the investigation. Perhaps the villains thought it best to frighten our tribes out of an alliance and by Cavora we shall prove them wrong."

At the site of the destruction, Eliaphet winces. The smell of ash was still fresh.
Barke leads the Eagles through the wreckage, meeting up with another squadron of Bats. He motions to the two groups. "Squadron Alpha will search the east wing, while Squadron Beta shall search the west." He moves on to the Eagle Captain. "If I am allowed to say, I recommend splitting into two groups to cover the north and south."
The Eagle Captain nods in approval. "Indeed." He turns to the Eagles. "Well, you heard him. Form up and move out. Inspect thoroughly and anything you find is to be noted and all are to report back here." He plants a flag into the ground, providing a beacon for the soldiers.
A Bat Soldier hands everyone a flare gun. "As we cannot remove evidence to keep the site intact, send up a flare should you find something."
Eliaphet accepts the flare and pairs with her group.

Obeying his King, Barke salutes the Eagles for their efforts and takes his squadron back to New Bat Island.
The remaining Eagle soldiers reflect on their findings, but Eliaphet remains silent. Leaving for a quiet place, she attempts to eat a piece of fruit in order to regain her strength, but the bitterness in her heart left it tasting of ash.

Folding her wings inward, a feeling of bittersweet joy swells in Eliaphet's heart. Gently gracing the ground, her feet stand at the entrance to the Eagle Library.
Entering the hallowed halls, many books laid on abandoned desks. Decorating the ground were many papers, a few unfinished by their frightened writers, some of whom were present at the attack. Making way through the floating shelves, Eliaphet finds a familiar corner wedged between two particularly large statues.
Reverently placing her hand on the chair hidden behind them, a small grin forms on her face.
"I hear that once belonged to an adventurous student, intent on mapping all of Chima, even places beyond the Outlands."
The small figure of an Eagle Child emerges from behind a shelf. He wore robes of light blue with a white sash around his waist, the uniform of a beginner librarian.
Eliaphet takes a piece of remaining fruit out of her pocket and offers it to the child. "So I hear."
The Child bravely comes forward, first shaking her other hand before taking the fruit. "The Teachers are off with the reconstruction efforts, yet you, a soldier, are here. Why?"
Eliaphet sits down beside the child, her arms wrapped around her knees. "I am only a rookie. Not quite used to such things."
The Child chuckles. "So am I. Not really used to this library stuff. But, someone has to do it, right?"
Eliaphet slowly closes her eyes. The tone of her voice a reflection of her thoughts, reassurance. "Yes, someone must."
The two stare outside the window of the library, viewing the setting sun's warm glow over the scarred land.
Shortly thereafter, King Crogar and Queen Carina return to the Swamp with most of the Croc Army. They leave behind a small garrison of 200 warriors to help Ewinus manage things here until the Eagle Guards have been reorganised.
Eagles work hard clearing the debris left from the battle and reparing the damage to the Spire. Within the Spire, the process of electing a new Council of Elders is begun.
A new Eagle Council has been chosen, and they start interviewing candidates for the numerous military and administrative posts left vacant by the regime change. Eagle architects begin drawing up plans for renovations to the Spire and expansions to its defences.
