The trailer for Episode VIII dropped during Star Wars Celebration just a bit ago! It looks epic!
Some interesting Details:
- Many different voices can be heard whispering in the background, including Leia saying "help me Obi-Wan" and Obi-Wan saying "he was seduced by the Dark Side." You can also hear Yoda and maybe Palpatine but it's hard to make out what they're saying
- Cool new vehicles, including some Resistance airspeeders that trail red exhaust and new First Order walkers, and we will definitely be getting a space battle with new ships this time.
- Finn appears to still be recovering, and it looks like Poe's X-wing will be destroyed
- What are those two shots during Luke talking to Rey? One looks like Rey touching some kind of book with the Jedi emblem, but the other one is confusing.
I thought this was an epic trailer! What did you guys notice and/or think!

I believe that part of the New Republic has survived. The reason the Resistance only had fighters and small ships is because the New Republic and First Order agreed to have no capital ships. The First Order broke that agreement in secret, and when the NR learnt about it, it was too late.
As Rebel capital ships are seen, I conclude that eitehr the remnants of the NR navy, or planets that have reacted to the loss of teh Senate, have joined the Resistance. Hopefully this will mean larger battles, as at the end of TFA, and single SD could night eleminate the Resistance.

Yeah. The support of systems formerely in the New Republic is the only explenation for the resistance having the funds, numbers and ability to obtain and man capital ships.

Meh! I guess I'm not a HUGE fan, but it was just another trailer to me.
Correct me if I'm wrong, but wasn't Luke given/found the book which includes the prophecy of the Chosen One? It could be that. I feel like I read that he possessed that book at some time.

I recon Laura Derns purple hair character is going to be a New republic military official put in to replace Leia. So yeah I definetly think at least some of the NR survived along with their ships as it would be a shame not to considering allot of the original trilogy was about the alliance restoring the republic.
