This is a guide on how to bring your story to life, this guide is original because it mainly focuses on how to add details to your story, making it seem more real and interesting.
To make your story appear more real, you must add details often. Describe things, objects, how they look, where they are, and their spacial relation to at least one other object. Say your describing a room, if you describe things how they look and where they are, you bring your story to life because your readers can practically 'see' your story.
Example I made up: I entered a Starbucks, the smell of fresh coffee slapped me in the face, but it felt soooo good. The floor was a stereotypical checkered floor with brown and black color variations, the walls were dark green with darker green swirls here and there giving it quite a Starbucks feel. The ceiling was black, an interesting choice in my opinion. There also were cherry varnished tables and chairs adjacent to the walkway adding an odd contrast to the colors around them. Then there were a decent amount of people around me occupying most of the chairs and tables, as a result the room was filled with sounds of conversation and enjoyment. In front of me was the front counter, about ten feet away, it was brown and in the curved in an 'L' like shape with busy employees behind it taking orders and making coffee.
Okay I know that's not much like Starbucks, but I've not been in one for years. if you need to know what things look like to describe them, you can look up images. Nonetheless, you could see my thoughts exactly as I did because of in-depth explanation. Notice how I gave Starbucks quite an atmosphere to help distract from how much it isn't like Starbucks, I highly advise you explain matters relevant to senses like how things sound, feel and smell. But don't add too many descriptions because may become difficult to keep track of things. if you need to add lots of descriptions, you may describe only objects or things that are relevant to the current situation or scene. Also, give things color. Don't be afraid to throw in interesting colors to liven descriptions up a little; here you can also look up furniture to show you what colors might go good together because people make colors and everything look nice in furniture pictures.
This doesn't just go for objects, it goes for characters too, describe what they look like, their typical mannerisms, their expressions and reactions to events/things/conversations. If you do all these things properly, people can feel almost 'present' in your story because they will see everything.
Here you guys can practice these tips by posting stuff here kinda like my Starbucks example. Hope this helps and have fun.
Interesante, but I shall type my own Starbucks description.
I opened the door to Starbucks, and stepped into a rather crowded atmosphere. People stood at the counters, pointing at the menu and ordering coffee, while the employees hit keys on the computer. The brown walls were hardly visible, due to pictures of coffee beans and many charts framed and hung up. The floor was of a dark wood paneling, with scratches here and there. The smell of coffee was strong, and sounds of coffee machines rang. They were sounds of sucking and pouring, all being ignored by the talking customers. The wood tables and chairs were almost all occupied by people sipping coffee. typing on laptops, and reading newspapers.

You looked up a picture of Starbucks didn't you?
I'm better at describing rooms in houses anyway. :tounge:

Thank you! And no, I didn't. I've been in Starbucks before, many times.
