Saying that Han Solo has the force is like saying Indiana Jones has the force. Indy has been shot at just as much as Han and is almost never hit. I am telling you, it's Hollywood, not the force:P.
I have to agree, besides remember in A New Hope where Han said hokey religions and ancient weapons are no match to a good blaster by your side.
Well, what do you expect to happen, the main character get's shot by storm troopers?
That's essentially what happens in Rogue One, though.
So from in an in-universe point of view, why is it that stormtroopers are totally inept at dealing with the heroes of the Original Trilogy? They go from lethal to useless in one movie.
Hence my theory that the Force is protecting them, as it protects Chirrut and Bodhi up until they've accomplished their tasks.
They felt like that had to happen in Rogue One becuase none of those characters apear in the OT and since the movie gives the impression that's it ends the day before or maybe even the same day A New Hope starts it's almost inconceivable that those characters wouldn't make an apearance. They're trying to avoid some of the mistakes they made in the Prequels.

Again, as I keep pointing out, I'm refering to an in-universe explanation.
"You destroyed our home! pew pew pew" —Baze to the LMB officials

Okay, but it just dosn't sound right considering Han Solo's OT view of the force.

You mean his opinion that was later replaced with, "It's all true"? ;P
Yes, but it dosn't matter what he thought about it later, because earlier at the time your saying the force was protecting him form laser blasts he didn't believe in the force.
