You're aware you're being bombarded by almost 1500 crossbowmen from atop the wall, right? You're going to take at least a few losses. Not to mention the scorpions, snipers, and other heavy artillery. Just thought it worth mentioning, but I'll let you decide your losses since you seem to be a pretty fair decision maker.
I am. Are you aware that your crossbowmen are being bombarded by about four hundred arrows per second (give or take a hundred at any given moment)? Plus another hundred and ten scorpion-grade bolts per second?
Also, for reference, the Fireblades are my mobile furnaces. They're big rectangular blocks fill with oil-soaked coal that use a ventilation system to spew fire out the front of the machine.
I'm going to assume that you're just continuing your earlier moves. *The Fireblades continue to sit there. The stone of the wall starts to get very small cracks from the heat, as it starts to crumble.* *Bombardments continue.*
Add another 75 arrows from skilled elves to that equation.
*The trebuchets continue to fire, especially targeting the enemy trebuchets.*

What are the Warders doing exactly? OK, here's what I'm doing from what I can tell of where these units are. And, for my reference, I'm reposting the unit list. As far as I can tell, they are all on the cliffs except the Siege Weapons (13 Trebuchet and 14 Ballistae) 1, 250 Powered Infantry (1.6 each; 2, 000 MWE)
625 Grey Archers (1.6 each; 1, 000 MWE)
500 Stair Shooters (2 each; 1, 000 MWE)
200 Heavy Archers (5 each; 1, 000 MWE)
250 Climbers (2 each; 500 MWE)
*The Stair Shooters are moved back on the wall, sniping at the Warders and FireBlade operators/boars.* *The Grey archers accompany them, dealing with anyone choosing to target the Stair Shooters.* *The Climbers and Heavy Archers fire at Siege Weapon operators after getting in range on the cliff.* *The Siege Weapons fire at the opponents siege weapons.*
Tul Generas of the Orcs, Darthraxx of the dragon Knights. I RP, and have lots of fun.

Just so you know, they're on the cliffs behind the wall, not the ones they were on earlier.
*The Fireblade operators crouch behind the Fireblades. The stone of the wall continues to crumble slightly.* *The Gunuzirak keep the heavy and grey archers under constant fire, with help from the lighter artillery.* *Heavy artillery continues to bombard enemy siege engines.*

got it. Then they'll move to the ones they were on earlier, just not as far back on them. *My troops fire at the Boars behind the Fireblades, and once smashed, they all retreat to back to the wall.*

No, I was not. Are you aware that my Uruks are the hugiest, toughiest, biggiest orcs in Middle Earth?
Ah. That... makes sense? That depends on the stone, actually - if this were built from marble (which I don't believer a second it is) it wouldn't melt hardly at all. Granite would melt slowly but not crack. Which side of the gates are the furnaces on? I'm assuming both? Also, weren't you going to force me to change my forces back? I guess not?
*My forces on the wall fall back, using the vertical angle as cover.* I'm not surrendering my turn yet, but I'll wait until you answer, if you don't mind.

Yes, I am.
It probably does vary some, but I don't think it would affect this instance. If you look at general medieval castles, heating the walls was pretty standard practice for destroying them. I don't see why this wall would be particularly unique compared to normal stone castles. Also, I'm not melting the walls, I'm cracking them (which granite does do under heat). Really, just about any hard substance will crack under intense heat (or cold), be it stone or metal or something else. Heat causes stuff to expand, and when that heat is applied too quickly and there isn't enough time for the heat to disperse throughout the entire object, the substance expands unevenly, causing it to crack.
That's a good question. They're on any wide expanse of wall, though probably just one stretch. I'm too lazy to.

True - how do you keep the heat from dissipating? Wouldn't the furnace heat up the air around it and the other side of the wall before getting it hot enough to crack?

They are being protected by the shields of the swordsmen so that they can take cover to nock an arrow, then step to the side, snipe down an enemy, and take cover again. They're worth 2 EWE (2.6 MWE), so they are more skilled than most orc archers.Currently they are covering the Fireblades, though that may change depending on where the battle is right now.
KitKat, can you give me a quick update on the battle and what our plan is currently?

Thank you. I'll move in my next post.
Well, first, the wall has flames being blasted at it from point-blank (maybe a foot away ). Second, this wall is likely several feet thick, so the heat won't even be able to dissipate through to the other side of the wall fast enough to cool the front. Third, if the Byzantines were able to demolish stone structures by just placing clay pots of charcoal around the base, I think mobile furnaces will do the trick just as well.
Just so you know, they're on the cliffs behind the wall, not the ones they were on earlier.

*The operators of the Fireblades quickly go down.* *You forces attacks on the furnaces themselves cause fuel to spill out. Rather than having numerous focused blasts of flame on the wall, there is now a raging inferno all along the base.*
*My forces fall back as necessary to stay out of range of your trebuchets.* *Dwarves return fire. Gunuzirak keep a constant hail on your crossbowmen while using the tanks as cover (this is assuming that they follow to stay in range). LTs and MAPs fire their light artillery at the crossbowmen (these guys are still in range, unless the crossbowmen are retreating again).* *The HATs fire incendiaries at your siege weapons, systematically targeting each individual weapon and igniting it, starting with the ballistae, then onagers. EPAs act likewise, starting with the trebuchets.* *Mortars rain slugs upon your Ologs.*
You do realize that that's not how walls work, right? They only help against low-trajectory weapons in this sort of situation. If you're firing over them and are able to hit my troops, then my troops are just as capable of firing over them to hit yours. Trajectories tend to go that way.
