Mordor is a land in the south-east of Middle-Earth, the dwelling-place of the Dark Lord.
It borders the Morannon to the north, Cirith Ungol to the west, and Khand to the east. Khand is the only large entry; Cirith Ungol is a narrow pass, and the Black Gate shields the Land of Shadow from Morannon. The Mountains of Shadow and the Ash Mountains protect all other fronts.
Orodruin and Barad-Dûr are both in the north of the Black Land, upon the Plateau of Gorgoroth. Nurn, the south, is used mainly for housig the Hosts of Mordor.
