Interesting, so what are we learning today*-)?
Today we will be learning an assortment of basic defense spells. They are fairly simple and easy to master so we will be tackling three in today's class.
Most public ones in the USA are $20,000-$30,000 in state, and $30,000-$40,000 out of state. Private ones are INSANE. I know some private universities that are over $60,000 a year:S! Yeah, it kind of is a must do these days. I would guess 95% of middle class people in the USA go to college.
That's huge, you can obtain a full four year law degree for $60,000 Australian dollars. That's be less than $40 U.S dollars for a whole bachelor degree. Is it a must do? Or do people just assume it is? Lots of people didn't/dropped out and they still became successful. My guess is you could name more than I. Connections are what really matters. There is no point connecting with failures from college. It's harsh, but true. Hmm... I don't believe that any Western Nation has a middle class anymore, but I get what you mean.
Statistics suggest that 83.71% of people from high socio-economic postcodes study, while 16.29% of low socio-economic postcodes study at universities in Australia. That's a huge difference. A lot of my acquaintances from secondary school didn't attend university. Most started apprenticeships, certificates and trades through TAFE. <- That's still considered tertiary education, but they stop at diplomas and thus do not offer bachelors.
It's weird that the USA relies on college. It seems like a money grab.
It is definitely a money grab. That's why I dropped out:P.
~l)~/\/~/-\~ The tie between real life and legos is imagination .
I don't remember what mine was, haven't been on Pottermore in years:S! I am actually surprised it's still up TBH.
It's actually a newish edition to the site. You can also be sorted in one of the USA's school houses. The old pottermore was better. They deleted that due to lack moderation for under 13s.
Aw, that stinks:(.

You can always go back at a later date if you wanted. Or you know. You could work hard and buy a house/go on a holiday. A proper holiday, none of that contiki rubbish.

I might go back eventually, guess it depends on if I can get a job without doing so.

I was going to do the same, only that good/stable job never came 'round. that's not to say that you wont find a decent paying job that allows you study.
If I acquired full time work, I wouldn't be at university. I'd still go, but after I set myself up in life.
Today we will be learning an assortment of basic defense spells. They are fairly simple and easy to master so we will be tackling three in today's class.
We will start with the simplest, the Stunning Spell. All you have to do is point your wand at your opponent and say Stupefy. If done correctly, this will render them unconscious, however, I will have to perform the countercurse because it must be cast by a different wizard than the one who cast the spell. The countercurse is Rennervate, and you will be practicing that in the next lesson. Now, I want to warn you that the spell might seem weak in the classroom setting, but that is because its effects are made stronger by anger or fear. Therefore, in an actual duel, you would be more likely to cast an effective Stunning Spell. However, I do want to make sure you are proficient enough in this spell to be able to use it as defense, so, after you have practiced a few times on each other, I will release a boggart to amplify your fear. Now, pair up and begin practicing.
OOC: Since there are three of you, one of you will have to pair up with an imaginary student.
Also OOC: I made up the part about the anger or fear, but I think it makes sense within the canon.
Patronuses are very advanced, and we will not be covering them for quite some time. And hedgehogs are actually quite cute.
Cute, but lame. I'd rather a bigger animal. Like a dog or something. Dingo maybe...
Did I say cute? Well, they are cute, but I meant cool. And the size of the animal doesn't affect the strength of your Patronus, only your happy feelings do.

TBH I probably could get a good job in some other field right now that I could live off of, but I REALLY want to work in computer science. It is more interesting than working at a bank or something.

Okay, anybody want to pair up with me*-)?
