Math and English was the reason I dropped out really. I was paying to take these classes I didn't care about and wasn't taking a single class related to my major:S. Speaking of that, I need to find some time to get back to programming again, haven't done it in weeks now:S. I just work too much, and it's gonna get even worse in the summer:S.
I see what you mean. If you don't mind, how much did that cost you? At least you're keeping yourself busy. Save up for a house, rent it out and repeat. That's what my brothers did. Brother number two only moved out of home at 25, luckily my parents are okay with it. He's doing really well now.
I think it was like $500 a class, and I was taking 3, plus some fees, so about $2,000 a semester. Yeah, plus I am still learning programming and am hoping I can get a job in that eventually:). Did your bro go to college, or just work a regular job?

It's expensive to live here. If you have a college fund, it might be worth looking into. They're quite a few people from the USA in my classes. Just don't try to bring your USA laws here, we get very upset and the class will turn against you.
My bro loves Australia, thought about going to college there at one point! He actually has an Australian flag in his bedroom:P.
And I have a British flag in my room. We all want to be some where else I guess. That's awesome though.

Mine are a little more expensive (depends on the classes you take), but our loans don't have interest and they don't need to be payed them off until we earn over $50K P.A. Our fees are currently capped at $147 per semester. I don't think those rules apply to foreign students. Still, I think it's cheaper to study here for a lot of degrees like law.
None of my brothers went to university. I'm pretty sure I'm the first in my family to attend university, which is apparently uncommon.
Three out of my four brothers finished year twelve, brother number one did not. He and his wife just finished paying off the house they built in 2009 late last year. Three of my brothers have their own house and all have regular jobs. Two pave roads and the other details trucks. Brother number three worked with a carnival to build up his deposit.
I have a lot to live up to in that respect. Sometimes it feel like I'm going backwards, but I still have more savings than my peers. I'm not sure what the USA is like, but you should do well enough without a degree. Just keep saving. They saying goes, "buy the worst house on the best street" but that's wrong, buy the best house on the worst street. People will live where they can afford.
*Korgarrath Amarat sits down in the front row of the DADA classroom.* Sounds pure-bloodish, doesn't it?
I'm up for that! Hopefully our teacher lasts longer than one year:P. *Diglett Twobyfour sits next to Korgarrath*
*I walk into the room*
Good afternoon, class. I am Professor Whalius, and I will be teaching you Defense Against the Dark Arts. In this class you will learn how to protect yourself from Dark Wizards, with everything from simple Disarming and Stunning Spells to Patronuses and invisibility.

Well, I went to Community College so it was VERY cheap. Most colleges in the USA are around $20,000-$40,000 a year. So over $2,000 a class:O! See, I'm the opposite. I'm the first person in my family who's still alive that HASN'T gone to college:S.

Interesting, so what are we learning today*-)?

Gee. I think my classes are around $700 AUD. My university is supported by the state, most of them are. I only know of one private university and few people go there. It's so expensive and doesn't help with finding employment as far as "old school ties" goes. I find it odd that higher education is a must do in the USA.

Hopefully not Patronuses. Mine from Pottermore was a hedgehog. How lame?

Most public ones in the USA are $20,000-$30,000 in state, and $30,000-$40,000 out of state. Private ones are INSANE. I know some private universities that are over $60,000 a year:S! Yeah, it kind of is a must do these days. I would guess 95% of middle class people in the USA go to college.

That's huge, you can obtain a full four year law degree for $60,000 Australian dollars. That's be less than $40 U.S dollars for a whole bachelor degree. Is it a must do? Or do people just assume it is? Lots of people didn't/dropped out and they still became successful. My guess is you could name more than I. Connections are what really matters. There is no point connecting with failures from college. It's harsh, but true. Hmm... I don't believe that any Western Nation has a middle class anymore, but I get what you mean.
Statistics suggest that 83.71% of people from high socio-economic postcodes study, while 16.29% of low socio-economic postcodes study at universities in Australia. That's a huge difference. A lot of my acquaintances from secondary school didn't attend university. Most started apprenticeships, certificates and trades through TAFE. <- That's still considered tertiary education, but they stop at diplomas and thus do not offer bachelors.
It's weird that the USA relies on college. It seems like a money grab.
Hopefully not Patronuses. Mine from Pottermore was a hedgehog. How lame?
I don't remember what mine was, haven't been on Pottermore in years:S! I am actually surprised it's still up TBH.
It's actually a newish edition to the site. You can also be sorted in one of the USA's school houses. The old pottermore was better. They deleted that due to lack moderation for under 13s.
