Hello, all! This is a story I'm writing for school (I know, I'm so lucky to write about Star Wars for school) and I've decided to post it here for you to read, enjoy, and give suggestions.
So without further ado, I give you Phantom Thief.
The man stepped into a dark room and closed the door. Once he had locked it, he walked over to a hologram projector in the center of the room. He was dressed in the officer’s uniform of the Imperial Navy: a slate gray shirt and trousers, impeccably shined black boots, and a belt. His rank bars indicated that he held the position of Fleet Admiral. There was an obvious shaking in his hands as he ran them over the projector’s controls. Finally, he was done. He backed away from the projector and knelt before it. It flickered to life, and a familiar - and terrifying - face appeared in its projection.
“Why do you require my attention, Admiral Sarn? You know as well as I do that I have more important things to do than listen to the requests of subordinates.” The man’s voice - if he was a man - was deep, booming, and punctuated by a steady breathing sound. It was Darth Vader.
“Grand Admiral Thrawn ordered me to report on the status of the Phantom Project, Lord Vader.”
“Why does Admiral Thrawn not report himself?” Vader asked.
“I am more acquainted with the project than he is, sir,” Admiral Sarn responded.
“If he has ordered you to report, then you will report. Do not waste my time, Admiral Sarn.”
“The project is proceeding as planned. We have experienced some complications-”
“What kinds of complications, Admiral? Has Admiral Thrawn squandered the Emperor’s resources as I thought he would on a useless project?”
“No, my lord! We have only experienced mild complications in the area of the weaponry synchronization systems.”
“Fix the problems and finish the project. I want those fighters ready by the time my flagship is finished.”
“Sir, if I may-”
“You may not. Goodbye, Admiral Sarn.” Darth Vader ended the conversation and signed off.
Admiral Sarn was terrified. He knew what Vader did to those who failed him. And now, after Vader’s blunder at Yavin had led to the destruction of the Death Star and caused him to fall out of the Emperor’s favor, he was more dangerous than ever. He exited the hologram room and entered the bridge of the Imperial-class Star Destroyer Enforcer. The view out the bridge windows revealed the planet Run’dana floating in the blackness of space. It was on this planet that Sienar Fleet Systems engineers were building the deadly TIE Phantom starfighter.
The TIE Phantom was set to be the most advanced starfighter in the TIE series ever: it was equipped with five laser cannons, shielding, and a Class 1 hyperdrive. All of these were unheard of for a TIE fighter. But it was not these features that made it so deadly. The TIE Phantom featured a fully functional cloaking device that allowed it to turn completely invisible for up to five minutes at a time. Once it was finished, the Rebellion wouldn’t stand a chance against the Imperial Navy.
Meanwhile, on the MC80 Star Cruiser Home One…
“If the Empire finishes this starfighter, we won’t stand a chance against the Imperial Navy. We have to destroy their facility.” The Rebel forces gathered in the briefing room stirred in agreement with Admiral Ackbar’s words.
“Admiral, how can we attack Run’dana when Imperial forces are so strong? There’s at least three Star Destroyers, five Interdictors, and dozens of frigates and light cruisers. Not to mention starfighters! A strike against the Run’dana system is suicide!” responded one of Ackbar’s colleagues.
“I understand your concern, General Madine. And I agree that a full-out attack is indeed suicide. But, a team of saboteurs could slip inside the facilities on Run’dana and destroy them, and perhaps steal one of these fighters for our use and study.” Ackbar turned to face the Rebels listening to his words. “You all know the cost of freedom. Many of you have already lost friends in this fight for justice. But if we do not take risks and even make sacrifices, we cannot win. If you believe I will force men to take this mission, you are wrong. I will not force anyone to undertake a dangerous mission. I will only ask this: are any of you willing to infiltrate the Run’dana system and perform this mission?”
The room was silent for a moment. Then a man stood.
“I will go, Admiral.” He was quickly joined by others: a woman, a Bothan, a Duros, and a Mon Calamari.
“I am proud of you for undertaking this dangerous task, men. What are your names?”
“My name is Trevin Fordyce,” said the first human.
"I am Haal Ven’remaam," stated the Duros. He spoke his name is Durese, and it sounded quite impossible to pronounce in Basic.
“I am Maku Brasral,” said the Mon Calamari.
“My name is Trast Ditav,” the Bothan grated.
“I am Jaina Herand,” said the woman.
“You may take whatever starship you wish, soldiers. I hope we will meet again. Now go, and may the Force be with you.”
