~<>~
I was free. Feet pounding on the cool, dust-covered stones that paved the interior of the Galleries. Low beams of sun pierce the stone just above my head.
“That’s good.”
I glanced around in all directions. Everything about this place looks hopelessly alike! Now I was lost.
“Oh, that’s not so good, boi.”
Heh. Totally not. I did not wanna be out here after dark again. I glanced nervously at the shadows creeping down on me, and the sun retreating just above me. “I’ll come out.”
Was that really going to help? “I’ve got a map installed inside my head.”
The Runners would be very, very jealous. Wait a minute…I don’t know where I am. Do you have radar as well? “On second thought, you’re on your own.”
Great.
Now…I had to think. I had to find shelter. Let’s review what I had to work with.
My instinct.
Well, that didn’t take long.
I decided to follow that, and started forming a map inside my brain, the way I should’ve been from the very start. Two turns to the left. One to the right. I was getting somewhere now.
Shadows were lengthening. I had five minutes at tops. I picked up my speed.
Two more minutes. My feet were still just pounding away endlessly. My muscles were starting to ache.
Another minute.
Somehow, I felt I was close.
Then I realized what it was. I had a Crazy Meter. Sweets was emitting a signal. I had radar.
And I was closing in.
It was weird enough to be telepathic. Now this. I just shook my head to clear it of this nonsense, then followed my inner compass anyways.
The gate came into view, at the end of this final, long corridor.

I soon figured out that the girls had almost as many prejudices as the boys. I also discovered that their version of the cooler was significantly less cold, but it was hanging from a tree, so less comfortable. Especially since I didn’t trust the rope my cage was hanging from.
Sweets apparently did, though, because she was seated on the ground almost directly below me. “Sorry.”
“Oh, no probs.” I said. “I’m used to being caged up and trialed by now.”
“About the trial…”
“Break the bad news.”
“You’re not allowed to speak, boi.”
“Ouch. There goes my speech.”
“How are you supposed to convince them of my message if you’re muted?”
“Guess that means you’re talking.” I shrugged.
She gasped. “No!”
“I don’t know of anybody else who would speak up for me.” I shrugged again.
“Well, there is one otherk.” Cosmic stepped out of the shadows. “Whatk do I needk to say?”
Hmm, *reads* so I noticed. Yay! With lollipops in it! XD
I CON never remember who is and who isn't...are you a public schooler?
Is a lollipop the equivalent of a sucker, or is there a difference?
Nope, homeschooled. What about you? Ik your in college now, but I mean before that.
Ermm, Yes. I think a lollipop is technically those massive swirly ones. And suckers are gullible people the hard things you get at the dentist. Basically budget cut lollipops.
