In the last 55 years, LEGO has released over 150 distinct product themes for their sets. Naturally, some of them end up more popular than others, with a handful even spawning TV shows, books, and films filled with intricate lore and fleshed-out characters - that is, if they weren't licensed from third-party media to begin with. However, not every original LEGO theme is Ninjago or BIONICLE, or is based on a blockbuster franchise like Star Wars, Marvel/DC, Harry Potter, Minecraft, or Super Mario. Not all of them sell nearly as well as any of those, either.
With that said, what less-famous LEGO themes are you particularly fond of? There's no strict metric for judging which ones are "niche", but some are certainly more famous than others, or simply weren't as aggressively marketed... ---------- Yet, even actively trying to make something the next big thing doesn't always make it the next big thing. Case in point: Knights Kingdom II. The Castle rep from 2004 to 2006, it was a mix of traditional and constraction sets with more detailed lore than usual for a Castle set, and was marketed with books, comics, and even a Game Boy Advance title. Despite all that, it didn't last very long, and gets very little attention nowadays. In fact, I don't really remember it getting much attention at all. But as a young constraction fan, I enjoyed Knights Kingdom II a lot more than BIONICLE at the time.
Monster Fighters is a spooky adventure theme from 2012 that didn't last particularly long, but has a soft spot in my heart. The minifigures are all unique and ooze character, the sets are well-crafted and fit the campy period-horror aesthetic perfectly. I regret not buying more of them when I had the opportunity, but I'm satisfied with how my collection stands today.
I liked Knights Kingdom II as well, and Exoforce, though I really wish we'd gotten the full third wave and story rather than "decide how it ends yourself."

Be creative!
Be creative?! How?! If only there was some system for being able to build new models to tell the rest of the stories with...
Kidding. I actually prefer a story to be finished, personally.
