When Sir Fangar gained enough knowledge, he twisted it for use in combat. War was something no animal tribe ever thought of before, since their minds were pure, which is why the first group of Lions were unfortunately wiped out and the Tiger Tribe's previous Rites of Passage were morphed into combat training for future attacks. (This would tie into the Tunnel Cat's Claw Week, a lore story that was featured on the original Lego Chima Website.)
The same outcome fell upon the Leopard Tribe, whose tactics only consisted of running away from danger by hiding in trees. This later birthed skills in trap making and camouflage. It still was not enough as Sir Fangar took advantage of each Hunter Tribe's weaknesses and strengths to completely destroy his opponents in a campaign that shocked even the highest rank of Phoenix Scholars.
Seeing the destruction, the chaos, the horrors, it all broke the Phoenix down to the core. In one final battle, they gave the defeated Tunnel Cats, Lundor the sole member of his tribe, & the orphaned child Li'ella shelter in their city while 9 of their members would set off the Illumination.
These remaining survivors could never return to the Land of Chima. As an apology for subjecting them to such a fate, King Fluminox bestowed youth upon these remaining survivors that slowed their aging by quite a lot. Now, you might be asking, what about the texts of these former tribes?
The answer, they were lost. The works of these tribes were stored in the ruins of their villages, and the Phoenix scrubbed Sir Fangar's works so no other tribe could use them again. Previous members of present day Tribes, and some of the extremely old Elders gathered together artifacts discovered from these ruins and chronicled them.
The Phoenix wished to hide their presence, but left books collected in the Ridiculous Section as a calling card. They never interfered, until the Return of Sir Fangar out of an immense sense of guilt and need to correct their past wrongs.

I remember having my own headcanon about the Leopards, and why they, the Tigers, the Hunters, etc were humanoid before the creation of Cavora’s chi. That tied into the last story in my Chima trilogy I wrote on LMB, which I should probably rewrite due the events of those stories being relevant to the Fanon RP, in fact.

Please share, I always enjoy reading a good story.
This theory helped soften what always bugged me while watching the last few episodes of the show...that and being horrified at the plotline of Laval liking a lioness who is really older than him.
Though if we go with the very slow aging theory, then I guess it would be like Avatar the Last Airbender type couple like Katara and Aang. I forgot to mention that according to this headcanon, when the Second Illumination rolled back the effects of the previous wars and healed both the Hunters & Tormak it also took away the slow aging gift which means that Li'ella would now age at the same rate as Laval.
