By bringing in people who weren't on LMB, like young kids/appealing to a new young audience. Most people on LMB have grown up and want to move on from LMB or LEGO, or they just got used to using other forms of communication, and not LMBE/TBB which is relatively strict in moderation.

That's a bit hard, young kids aren't really into message boards anymore. To be honest message boards are kind of a dying form of communication. Its also kind of a hard format to check regularly, and the strict moderation makes it challenging to have a proper conversation. I understand why everyone left, it's hard to check this site regularly, and there's little content left here to even check on. How many people are still here? can't be more than 20 active people. There's honestly not much point in moderation anymore. This is too obscure of a site to attract any kids; the only people left are teenagers who grew up on the boards and are still here because of nostalgia. If we actually want to maintain a meaningful community instead of clinging to a slowly dying site, we need to move forward in order to grow as a community.
I can't believe I had the same awful signature for nearly 8 years. Sorry for disappearing for 2 months, life happened for a bit.
By making changes that old and new users will be attracted to. We should invite who we know will like LMBE. Perhaps we should ask old users why they left, and fix what they didn't like if we can. By making dupes.

Right. Forums are kind of dying, and in place of them are websites or apps which use live chatting, for quick and easy communication.
Well, not everyone left. We still average more than 100 posts a day and we still have like 20 active people. As for moderation, yeah I understand why it's inconvenient to have to wait a bit to have your posts and other people's posts public. Most posts get approved relatively quickly, but yeah, sometimes a post gets stuck, or we consider it for a while, and the other people in the conversation have to wait. Also, I get how conversations get interrupted by one of the posts getting rejected. But yeah, 20 people is very little and 100 posts is really not enough.
I had an idea of adding AI moderation and researched if tools for that already exist, and I found quickly that they do, and they would certainly be able to do a good job. It wouldn't be replacing mods, since we'd still need people to double check and deal with reported posts, and in addition to that, there'd be less stress in moderating 5 pages of posts, but rather mods would be able to post more often, and I guess things would be more consistent, and posts would automatically be moderated, so yeah.
But, and there's a huge but that makes it that this is impossible: Our host ProBoards. Using AI moderation would be making a request to the server, and server requests can only be made by humans, and not robots. So yeah. And I don't think we're really considering getting rid of moderation, at least not entirely. I think it's possible to make some type of filter and get around the restrictions, but it might just be very easy to bypass, which obviously won't be good.
Sooooo, I am in favor of switching from an LMB community to a LEGO community. That, in my understanding, is a reason why we rebranded from LMBE to TBB. Not necessarily to kids or moreover young teens (cuz 13 is a requirement), but we'd want to get a new audience. Like, maybe people from other LEGO forums, or maybe we could somehow come up with something which makes us more appealing than things with faster moderation or live chats. Like, there are certainly very active LEGO forums left, we're just not one of them. But yeah, I agree with you that we need to get more active, and that will require at least some change.

Yeah, it really just isn't enough to keep a board active. Just switching direction isn't enough, there are many other Lego fan groups, and honestly better ones. There's nothing to attract new people, let alone people who will become active members. Almost no one uses message boards anymore, and those who do are going to semi-active ones that have a lot of features, talented builders sharing mocs, and generally higher reputation. If anyone is still using lego message boards, they're using Eurobricks and any similar sites. I don't think faster moderation would help, because LMBE is still an obscure, relatively inactive message board. We need a drastic change in order to maintain the community.

This is probably a controversial idea, but move to discord. It's honestly better suited to the current state of the community. There are only a few topics that people still post in, so we can have a separate channel for active topics, and a general channel for every theme sub-board. Moderators could still moderate, maintaining order as admins but not reading every post. There's so few people left I think everyone can be trusted to be civil so that posts don't need to be moderated. We can even bring over all the emotes, and use an AI to count posts and give out the current LMB ranks as roles. It would allow people to hold conversation better as a constant train of though, keeping users more engaged in the boards. Its a popular messaging site, which makes it much easier to check in regularly, because people use it for everything already. We can maintain the feel and ideals of the boards, while moving forward on a newer platform that makes being active a much easier task.

Not sure if this counts as encouraging another platform change, but would it be possible to create a new website that's customized to be the best of both worlds, with aspects of message boards, galleries, and live chat? It would be unique enough to set us apart from sites like Eurobricks.
