A few days ago I got the chance to watch the first episode of the new show Lego Masters on Fox ( in the United States). I was honestly not expecting much, but it definitely exceeded my expectations. I was afraid they'd just pull random people off the streets to be on the show, but they actually got full time Lego hobbyist on the show, which I'm greatful for. They also had two set designers who work for Lego to be the judges. The host was the guy who voiced Lego Batman, and ironically was probably the person with the least experience with Lego on set. They had a challenge for the people in teams of two to complete in 15 hours ( in this episode anyway ) and it was actually quite entertaining. They did a really good job with keeping things interesting and fresh and surprised me more than once. It's really cool to see this kind of show combined with something like Lego and I hope this will show more people that Lego isn't just for kids and can be enjoyed by anyone. I am concerned about the promos I've seen for future episodes though, which involves smashing builds, which I'm not sure what to think of that. But we'll see. It was really cool and I plan to see more episodes if I get the chance.
If you've seen it what do you think? And even if you haven't, what do you think based on what you've heard?

I saw the first episode as well and I liked it. I do recognize a couple of the contestants from other social media and I'm rooting for them.
As for the smashing builds, I think it's because they're going to do strength tests on their models, and probably track how well their models hold up. Of course, it looks like all of them get smashed pretty bad, but some may survive better than others.

I'm gonna keep watching for sure.
Oh really, I didn't recognize any of them, that's neat. Which ones did you recognize?
Oh yeah that makes sense. I guess it'll fine if it's just a one time thing or at least not very often. Because that looks painful to watch.

I recognize Boone from the bearded team, and Aaron, the one with glasses on the winning team who won the Theme Park challenge.
It does look quite painful. I saw the episode yesterday, and actually the goal is to build a space themed model where its destruction is part of the art in itself. The destruction has to contribute to the story of their build.

I've seen it now, I liked it a lot better than I thought I would.

Yep. They're probably the strongest and most experienced LEGO contestants on the show.
Awesome. I liked how they implemented the explosion in some of the models.

I'll be rooting for them, that's for sure. I could tell almost right away those two teams knew what they were doing.
Yeah, that was pretty wild. I think my favorite builds for that episode were the alien being defeated by the hero and the video game one. Which ones did you like best?

Same with me, although unfortunately I don't think I'll be able to watch LEGO Masters anymore. I've been lucky to watch the first two episodes since the first episode was the intro episode and I saw the second episode as a free trial of service, but I've ran out now.
Agreed. Those creations were great, and I'd agree with your choices as well. I also liked the design of the crescent moon structure which looked really neat and unique, even though its destruction wasn't very good.

Oh, that's to bad. Maybe you'll find another way to watch it someday.
Yeah, design wise it looked great. I was really rooting for them too.

Yeah. I already have it recorded at home thanks to my mom, but I'm still in college.
Yep. If only they could just add a little more mass and weaker parts to make it work.
