I would also appreciate it if someone could help me remember the name for the facebook-like site on lego.com -- all i remember about was that one could create their own music, "trade" stuff, and have their own minigames on their account page.

This is the place where some of the community has migrated to. As for the facebook-like site on LEGO.com, I believe you're thinking of My LEGO Network, but unfortunately that has been retired as well.
