(I decided I'd try again with the whole Splatoon crossover thing. This time it's an attempt at a Ninjago story within the Splatoon universe. And yeah, Wu is now Cap'n Cuttlefish. Also, you may want to have your favorite search engine ready...some concepts in this story you may not understand.)
Chapter 1
Kai hummed to himself as he worked on the finishing touches to his attempt at a Range Blaster. "Aaand...presto."
The paint job was good, but there were dents from working too hard. When he tested it, rather than a clean ball of ink, the gun produced a splash of ink that exploded and got on his shoes.
"You built it too quickly, Kai," his sister, Nya, told him gently. "Be patient. If Father were here, he'd say-"
"Yeah, I know," Kai replied bitterly. "But dad's not here. We're running the weapons shop on our own." The sea urchin crossed his arms.
The anemone sighed. "What can I ever do to cool that hot head of yours..."
As they were speaking, an old man in tattered robes, with what looked like a Bamboozler rifle as a cane, hobbled to their location. "Hmm..."
"Can I help you?" Kai asked bitterly.
"It seems you don't have anything suitable for a hero," the man observed. "The paint jobs are bright, flashy; pretty, yes, but not smart. You could get noticed by Octarians, ya know."
"Octa-what now?" Kai raised an eyebrow. "I haven't seen an octopus 'round these parts in forever, if that's what you're talking about. Also, this shop is called-"
"Octarians!" The man interrupted Kai and slammed his "cane" dramatically. "An evil octopus army who's stealing our precious power source- the Zapfish- and using it for themselves! They must be stopped!"
"Really," Kai replied, crossing his arms, then turned around. "Are you going to buy a weapon or not?"
Silence. He turned around. The old man was gone.
And then a great rumbling. The sounds of odd grunts, mixed with more humanoid battle cries. The young sea urchin couldn't believe what he was seeing.
(Explanation real quick: Their mother is an anemone, their father is an urchin. But they're OK with that now. )
"AaaaAAAH! Nya! You gotta see this!" Kai turned around. Nya was gone. "Why does everyone have to disappear!?"
"Looking for your sister, are ya?" An Octoling girl smirked. "We got 'er, alright." Some of the more inhuman grunts guffawed. The anemone was trapped in a snowglobe, hands pressed against the glass, and though it was soundproof, Kai could tell she was screaming for help.
"Let's go, girls," the octopus said with a chuckle. "We have nothing more to do here."
As they turned around, Kai took up a Blaster and said, "Not so fast."
In her glass prison, Nya groaned and mouthed, "Really?"
Some of the grunts moved closer to Kai, and he did his best to fight them off. He even managed to splat some of their eagle-eyed snipers. But the real problem came when the elite troops advanced on him. Even his Blaster couldn't do much against the onslaught of Octolings. He was starting to feel claustrophobic. "I'm gonna die, I'm gonna die..." he muttered. And as he was being terrified, Nya was being carried away on an Octarian vehicle.
But then one Octoling fell over. Then another. It was like dominoes, the octopuses knocking into each other one by one. He heard a laugh from behind him.
"Yer welcome, bucko!" The old man stroked his wild beard proudly. "By the way, I never introduced myself." He grinned and struck a pose. "I'm Cap'n Cuttlefish, leader of the legendary band of heroes, the New Squidbeak Splatoon!"
"Is that what you were talking about, Captain?" Kai asked, calming down. "If it means saving my sister, I'm in! If you're still open for applications, that is."
"We are!" Cap'n replied with a cheerful grin. "Let's get back to Cuttlefish Cabin, and then I'll introduce my other agents! I think I'll call you Agent Flame."
"Flame?"
"You like to decorate your weapons with flames," Cap'n replied, observing his weapons shop from afar. "It was the first thing I could come up with. Let's go!"
Upon going through a manhole in Inkopolis (a far walk, but worth it), Kai and Cap'n Cuttlefish came to a small, homey cabin near the entrance. They both entered it, then Cap'n Cuttlefish gave him a package. "Your new Hero Suit!" he said excitedly.
"Thanks...?" Kai muttered.
"Oh, and I got you something else," Cap'n added, then held up a Blaster- a really cool-looking one, sleek black with lights on the barrel.
"Oh my gosh," Kai whispered. "It looks amazing..." He held it in his hands, studying it in awe. "You built this?"
"No," he confessed. "A friend of mine did. Sheldon Shellendorf, he's a real talent."
"Wait- Shellendorf? As in legendary weapon smith Ammoses Shellendorf?"
"It's his grandson," a bored female voice replied. "Can we move on to introductions now?" The owner of the voice stood up, revealing herself to be a female Inkling with yellow hair, who was wearing a light-up black headset and what looked like crossing-guard clothes. "I'm Sam, but you can call me Agent 3. Or Three for short. Whatever."
A more cheery-looking Inkling girl stood up too, wearing a sleeker outfit with a hoodie instead of the security jacket. "I'm Jenny, but you can call me Four! It's really nice to meet a new recruit!"
As a young, female Octoling stood, Kai suddenly pointed his blaster at her. "Octarian! Take cover!"
Another young Octoling followed, a male, and Kai moved his blaster back and forth between the two of them.
"Calm down," Three interjected. "Those are just our Agents 7 and 8. No one knows their names, so we just call them Nanato and Hachiko."
"But...but...they're Octarians!"
"They heard this one song and went AWOL, apparently," Four replied with a shrug. "They're pretty nice."
"It is nice to be meeting you," Eight greeted politely with a small bow.
"Yes, it is being the pleasure to meet you," Seven added with a nod.
"Their Inkling skills need some work," Cap'n said, "but we're trying our best!"
Three young men entered; an Inkling, an Octoling, and one that looked strange, almost human but not quite.
"Sorry, Cap'n!" the Octoling breathed. "We heard someone come in and-"
"No, it's alright. Jay, Cole, Zane, this is Kai, your new teammate."
Just from looking at them, Kai guessed that the Octoling was Jay, the Inkling was Cole, and the strange being was Zane.
"Nice to meetcha, Kai," the Octoling told him with a grin. "I'm Jay, but they call me Agent Spark." Strangely enough, his Inkling was perfect, without even a hint of an Octarian accent in his speech. He was wearing a blue version of Four's Hero Suit, and his eyes matched, though his hair was a more reddish color.
"Spark," Kai muttered.
Cole was wearing a black Hero Suit that he had torn the sleeves off of. Without smiling, he extended his hand. Kai shook it. "I got your back, kid. Sea urchin, right?"
"Yeah."
"By the way, my codename is Stone."
"Oh. Cool."
"I am called Frost," Zane added. "I am an android built by a human inventor before the flood."
Cap'n Cuttlefish smiled as he came in. "I see you're already bonding. That's good!" He nodded approvingly. "Anywho, I'd like to tell you why I brought you here. You four are special. Your ink carries a rare energy that grants you abilities beyond our comprehension."
"Cool!" Jay grinned. "What are they?"
"Agent Spark, you have electricity pulsing through your veins! Not only are you incredibly quick and energetic, but your ink has an electric quality suitable for powering tech- and shocking the socks off those Octojerks!" Cap'n chuckled.
"That's cool and all, but it's not all I have in store! I do a little inventing, repair some weapons, bit of cooking, little bit of poetry-"
"Who knew the 'electricity in his veins' extended to his vocal chords..." Cole mumbled.
"Agent Stone," Cap'n continued. "Built like a rock, with specialized hard-hitting ink to knock those Octoslobs out cold for sure!"
"Can you, uh-"
"Cool."
"Can you be a little more sensitive about the names you're calling Octarians? I kind of am one..."
"I wasn't talking about you. Anyway, Agent Frost has ice in his system; not only is he cool-headed, but rather than ink, he has a substance that freezes on contact!"
"Co- oh. Apologies, as Cole seems to have already said that."
"And Agent Flame. You've got a spirit of fire! You pick up that weapon and flaming ink comes out! Pretty fresh, right?"
