They spilled the beans to Conner as Damian bound up Elliea’s shoulder. At the end Con nodded solemnly and sipped from his hot cup of tea. Landon was helping himself to all the crumpets while everyone was distracted. Everyone else peered at him, eager to see his reaction. Con tipped his head to the side, “You want me to leave my only family left to go on a mission that may be a fluke and that I could die in?” Damian froze in the middle of giving Elliea a sip of tea, “Uhh...well..shoot when you say it like that it sounds really bad…” There was a tense moment of silence before Con finally broke into a weak smile, “I’m warming up to it.” A few awkward, quite chuckles echoed through the room accompanied by a background track of Barbies’ trip to the mall. Con sighed, “I need time to think about it. I know it’s been five years and all but...grief….grief doesn’t just go away. Losing Nexo right after my mum….” He sighed and put his head down on his arms, “I’m just not sure I’m going to be able to handle the thought of my heart being crushed again so soon.” Elliea nodded sympathetically, “Completely understandable, I would have been surprised if you didn’t hesitate to sign up for more pain. We would love to have you Conner, you are still our friend and a powerful force to be reckoned with.” Con sat up, “How long do I have to make up my mind?” Elliea tipped her head and winced a little, “A few days at most?” Con nodded and sipped his tea once more as Lizzy ran into the room, climbed onto his lap and began putting on a doll show, complete with a thick brogue, for them on the table.
King stared down at the picture in his hand. The others were waiting in the living room but he didn’t go out. He gazed at the three happy faces in the picture and rubbed a thumb over the glass and frame then sighed and placed it back down on his bedside dresser. The world is full of evil and injustice and those so easily corrupt a broken person. Holding on to something was the only way you stayed off the slippery slope. He pushed the door open as he pulled a jacket on and stepped into the living room. Everyone’s eyes turned to him as he counted heads. “We’re missing one. Where Source?” Landon made a irritated noise and a few other people shrugged before Con spoke up, “He said he was coming...I guess he’s just late.” King sighed, “Well I’m not going to wait for him, we need to figure out a game plan on how to get the rest of the crew together. Who wants to find who?” Elliea raised her good arm, “I’d” The door shook under three solid thumps and everyone froze. All eyes darted around and two agents drew their weapons just in case as King went and opened the door. Source stood before him. He tipped his head back and looked at King through lidded eyes from under his bill cap. “Sup.” King cocked an eyebrow as he let him in. “Uh, did you have a little trouble getting here?” Source shrugged and leaned into the corner of the room, “Eh, took a wrong turn at 'old acquaintances best forgotten'.” Wanda leaned forward from her seat on the couch. “Oh Samuel, your face...you need to put something one that.” She got up and walked over to him and carefully pushed his bill cap back. He stared defiantly back at her with a blackening eye and bloody nose, lip, chin, and forehead before pushing her hand away and settling his hat down firmly and then stuffing his hands back into his hoodie's front pocket. “It’s Source and I’ve had much worse, don’t mother me.”
Wanda sighed disapprovingly and Landon snorted in the arm chair. Source shot a glare in his direction. “Landon. My favorite pal.” Landon sat up in his chair tensely and returned the glare silently with a lot of dislike. Carter shifted in his spot on the couch and shot a glance towards Wanda. Feeling his friends' tenseness, Damian cross his arms moodily. King rose and stepped partially between the split groups. "I know some people here don’t get along well but all are vital to getting this done.” Source scoffed from the corner. “Oh please, say it straight. Everyone here hates me and wishes I wasn't here.” He smiled a thin cat like smile, “You think I’m bad news.” King rubbed the bridge of his nose and gritted his teeth. “Look buddy I don’t like you either but I’m trying to give you a fair chance at having an advocate.” Source’s smile melted off replaced by a stonewall. “I don’t need an advocate, don’t want one. Get you stupid meeting taken care of and I’ll do what I need to.” Carter got up and led Wanda back to the couch were they were originally sitting and Elliea closed her eyes wearily. King opened his mouth as a wave of irritation washed over him but Elliea interrupted him, “Danny.….I’ll take Katie.” Everyone slowly relaxed as Con leaned his arms on his knees, “I’d like to try and find Alex. I’m wondering my being familiar with the way his mind feels, I may be able to find him even in a crowd or over a short distance.” King nodded, “Who else?” Damian shrugged, “I know that kid you had contact Source is into tech but she might be good to try in the field….the training systems are disassembled but she could tag along and help me find Cade.” King shrugged, “You’ll have to convince her older brother though.” Landon looked around the room. “I’ll go with Con if he doesn’t mind.” Con smiled and gave a quick thumbs up. King continued, “Wanda and Carter will be staying as much in cover as possible, for their protection. Source you’re going to help us keep contact as we will all be too far out of range for Conner to sync us.” Source gave a loose two finger salute from the dim corner. “I’m going to have a talk with Zachariah.”

I don't blame him. It's hard enough just reading about it.
