“Don’t move a muscle.”
That whisper was the only sound to be heard, besides the pounding of my heart. I was shrouded in darkness. A blackness so heavy that not even the fiercest of stars could pierce it. I took a breath. It was quick and shallow but at least it would keep me alive. My mind was concentrated on a single thing: a vine. Everything in me strained as I centered my thoughts on the green sprout. And as I focused, the vine began to slowly but steadily grow. My hands started to tingle… for something surged through them. Power, sheer elemental power, coursing throughout my veins. Making me feel as if I could move the mountains. The vine grew bigger by the ticking seconds. Coiling upon itself like a rattler preparing to strike.
I clenched my fist tighter and finally, the rattler was ready.
I shot out my hand in front of me, opening my fist as it flew into the open air. Behind me, echoed the sound of rustling leaves. I closed my hand shut, clasping it on to nothing but the cold atmosphere. A shriek filled the air.
My eyes snapped open, letting in the glow of sunlight. I spun around.
My plan worked.

Ooh, suspense!
You're off to a great start! It's awesome that you're getting back to writing stories here, I missed that!

A masked man dangled from one leg, his green eyes shining. He flicked his wrist and out of thin air a dagger appeared in his gloved hand. Metal met green flesh as the blade in one quick swing sliced through the vine letting the man fall to the earth. Rats.
Quickly I prepared for a hand-to-hand fight by taking out my own silver dagger. The man got back onto his feet. Honestly, I’m surprised and relieved that he didn’t injure his neck from the tumble.
He looked at me, the expression on his face questioning if I was ready. I nodded. Like a wild cat chasing after a deer, he rushed towards me; the crisp spring wind blowing through his shaggy and now dusty brown hair. He sprung upon me within a matter of seconds and blade clanged with blade as our eyes locked.
“Dad,” I said.
“Willow,” he answered.
“I’m not going down this time,” I stated. All I have to do is disarm my father.
“You will be if you don’t stop talking,” he teased.
Suddenly he flicked his dagger sideways, and I let go surprised; my blade tumbling to the ground. Defeat. Even without elemental powers of his own Father always would beat me in close combat.
I glanced down at the ground, feeling like a failure. I can never be as good as Dad.
“You did better than last time,” he said.
“But I still failed,” I answered, the rocks beneath me becoming more and more interesting.
“Failed to defeat me? Yes. But failed to surprise me? No. Your powers are growing. You could hardly move a leaf three weeks ago.”
“But what good are powers if I can’t even fight?” I look over at the tall evergreens. But I can fight.
“You can fight Wills, you’re just—”
“Not strong enough. I know.”
“I was going to say learning. You know, I noticed something. Before that vine grabbed my leg, and almost all the blood in my body rushed to my head,” A slight smirk appeared on my face at this joke. “I didn’t hear a thing. Maybe that what you’re missing.”
“Noise?”
“No, stealth.”
