I don't do it by notifications, I just read up on the whole MBs once a day. And this is why I fall behind.

What do bookmarks do, exactly?
If you bookmark a topic, it'll show up in the bookmarks tab, and you'll have a number up there alerting how many of your bookmarked topics have a new post. When you click on it, it'll display all of them, from most recently-posted on descending down. It helps me keep track of topics on boards I don't regular visit.
